Hi, anyone recommend a place to buy a bodhrán in Dublin or online? I know waltons do them for around 100-115, just wondering if anyone would do them any cheaper?

    thanks
    B

there's a place on capel st, don't know the name, but they do all that stuff. Don't know what the prices are though, sorry.

Perfect Pitch on Exchequer St. They have a website but it's useless. Call in there, ask to speak with Gerry Crowe, the owner. He buys most of his stuff from Malachy Kearns and Padraigh McNeale as far as I can remember. Really good quality, handmade Bodhrán makers and for what you'll pay it'll be a hell of a lot better tone than any of that muck sold by Waltons for the same price. He occasionally sells second hand good quality ones too, or at least they did a number of years back when I bought mine.

Make sure you don't buy one from any souvenir shops. Perfect Pitch are pretty competitive.

cheers for the replys lads. I'll call into perfect pitch and enquire. I know waltons sell cheap acoustic guitars at expensive prices so don't want to be ripped off with a bodhrán either from them.

Malachy Kearns Bodhrans from Roundstone in Connemara are the business

I'll second the Kearns recommendation. I've another tubable Bodhrán made by a west cork man who now lives in the Nederlands. Can't for the life of me remember his name but Gerry in PP could give you the rundown.

The missus got one recently, and it was crap.... she bought it without getting advice from a teacher/someone in the know.

She bought one later with advice from someone who knew about it and got a quality instrument. I think it cost 200euro.
