Here is a list of some of the things (in sport & music) I think are overrated:

Soccer : So boring. The goals should be made bigger and real tackles allowed!
Hip Hop/Rap music: Do/can they ever write their own songs?
Gealic Football: It's not a bad game but hurling it ain't!
    Gospel Music: High pitched screaming.
Martin Johnson: Good leader but not a great player. Over hyped by media.
All US sports: And they say soccer is boring!
Muhammad Ali: The greatest? I don't think so.
Boxing: Put Muhammed Ali in a UFC octagon and see how long he would have lasted!

I could go on all night but you get my drift!

Yeah, sure remove the skill factor, make the goalsd 15 feet high so payers can score from their own half.
Hip Hop/Rap music: Do/can they ever write their own songs?
Dont like this myself, but each to their own
Gealic Football: It's not a bad game but hurling it ain't!
yeah, the sticks and the little ball are a bit of a giveaway
    Gospel Music: High pitched screaming.
    See rap/hip hop
Martin Johnson: Good leader but not a great player. Over hyped by media.
Sometimes being a good leader is whats needed
All US sports: And they say soccer is boring!
I believe it was you who said that
Muhammad Ali: The greatest? I don't think so.
Well their hasnt been anyone better
Boxing: Put Muhammed Ali in a UFC octagon and see how long he would have lasted!

That Budweiser ad had the right idea with 'multiball'. I'm sure some 'purists' would disagree though.

Your first two points have some merit, I'd love to see proper tackling allowed in soccer again, but the sport has become a business and the human resources are too valuable these days to allow soccer to be a proper contact sport. That's why I started taking an interest in the GAA tbh.

Hip Hop/Rap is the most over-rated musical genre I've come across. Every second week a classic is butchered by another talentless "artist" and hits number 1. There are some diamonds in the rough but there's a hell of a lot of crap to dig through to find them.

Think about it.. Make the goals about 3 /4 feet wider. This would benifit the most skillful players for long range shots.

It would not be good for the more defensive minded teams though. Any free kick near the goal and the chances are increased that a goal would be scored.

This would probally mean that brazil would win every world cup and it would give less chance of weaker teams pulling off good results... but at least it will be more exciting!

oh... i forgot to mention about scrapping the offside rule!

Or EVERY team will have a free kick specialist and every player will fling themselves to the ground anywhere within shooting distance.
    KnowItAll wrote:

And every team will leave a player in the opposition box, which will lead to 1 or 2 defenders in their own box all the time.

Oh sweet jesus. Someone smack him/her. As Stekelly said that would remove the skill factor, and it's not all about the goals.

And as for the removing of the off-side rule, no one will agree with you, there will be so many goal hangers that it wouldn't take much skill or coordination to score then.

That's ridiculous man! Think about penalties, the goalie wouldn't have a chance, plus you'd have loads of longshots, way off target etc. A goal from the halfway line or outside the box may look brilliant, but that's only because they are rare and skillful.. imagine seeing 2 or 3 volleys go into the net in every game... the same goal.. the same tactics.... yawwwwn!

Oh and football is already an exciting and great game! As is Gaelic Football.

Guess what Kernel you are overrated too.Eagles my arse

Nicole Kidman:OVERRATED-2 good films,The Others and To Die For.

She reminds me of that creepy 2002 movie S1m0ne, where a producer creates a cybernetic actress. The robot actress becomes wildly famous, as has Kidman. The robot actress never ages - neither does Kidman
She's a Stepford Actress extraordinaire - plastic skin, plastic smile, all facade and no dimension, which would explain why she seems only to shine doing cold and scary.

The Eagles:OVERRATED-the Eagles – there’s not a single redeeming quality there. I take issue with those who think Don Henley is a good songwriter – those songs are wordy and overwrought. ‘Hotel California’? Poo!Kernel the only reason you like them is because they wrote the theme tune of your life-"Desperado"

FA Cup Finals:-2004-05 Arsenal 0:0 Manchester United (after overtime)
Winners - Arsenal FC after penalty shoot out (5:4) Enjoyable
    2003-04 Manchester United 3, Milwall 0 Crap
    2002-03 Arsenal 1, Southampton United 0 Crap
    2001-02 Arsenal 2, Chelsea 0 Crap
    2000-01 Liverpool 2, Arsenal 1 Average
    1999-2000 Chelsea 1, Aston Villa 0 Crap
    1998-99 Man Utd 2, Newcastle 0 Crap

    Lapdancing:- http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2811033#post2811033

The Matrix:-Wanna know why The Matrix is overrated? Keanu Reeves to pull in the females, the effects to pull in the males and kung-fu for the guys, Fishburn to pull in the real critics, Moss for the average Joe, the plot for the sci-fi nerds. The "men in black" dudes were geeky as heck. A software hacker guy that is the chosen one to save the real world, yeah whatever. The Matrix doesn't need another hyped review. I give it thumbs down.

Kidman is a great character actress, who, when allowed stretch her wings, can deliver a great performance. Plus, she's a ride.

Eagles.. hotel california and so many other great classics, that nobody should ever doubt their status as rock/country legends.

FA cup finals... this years one was cheated away by Arsenal scum, but usually they are gripping and enjoyable.

Lapdancing... tits and naked girls rubbing up against your hard cock for money. Do I even have to say anything here?

The Matrix - perhaps the best movies ever, with an engaging storyline and deep philosophy.

Yes.... it's soccer, that happens all the time!

Which means the game will become more open therefore more goals!

I'm guessing lots of people here are soccer fanatics. They probally support foreign teams like liverpool, man utd etc. They'll buy the (over-prised) jerseys go to matches ( which may end 0-0) and shout on their favourite team. All the while the directors and share holders are laughing their way to the bank saving the money the mug fans have given them!

So by all means, go to the matches and spend (give) your money away. It does not bother me but I couldn't help laughing at the liverpool fans the other week. As they were celebrating liverpools success I couldn't help think back about the TV programme some months ago about the anti-irish abuse an irish family were receiving in.. Liverpool!

Don't know how this has escaped my notice until now, but seeing as everyone else has had a go, Ill have a crack:

Soccer : So boring. The goals should be made bigger and real tackles allowed!

Boring? Were you watching Liverpool v AC Milan at all? I'm not a fan of either and I couldn't pull myself away from it. What would making the goals larger achieve? More goals would make it like basketball where one team goes down the pitch and scores, and then the opposition does exactly the same. But you don't like American sports either, do you? I do however agree that the physical element is being taken away and something should be done about that.

Hip Hop/Rap music: Do/can they ever write their own songs?

Not a fan of this at all myself, it offends my ears, but plagiarism has been part of music going back to the likes of Mozart, Bach and earlier, so it's hardly going to stop now.

Gaelic Football: It's not a bad game but hurling it ain't!

Not a fan myself, but I can see the attraction. Tough, physical game that's not for the faint hearted on many occasions. Can't see how that makes it overrated.

    Gospel Music: High pitched screaming.

Ah now you're just being silly. Have you ever heard Mahalia Jackson in full flow? Or the Harlem Gospel Choir? In fact, do you actually know anything about music?

Martin Johnson: Good leader but not a great player. Over hyped by media.

Over-hyped by the British media maybe, but not here.

All US sports: And they say soccer is boring!

Ever been to a baseball game? Great fun, and that's before anything actually happens on the field. American football? A great game of tactics if you know what you're looking at. Ice hockey? Fast and furious, about as far from boring as you can get. Basketball? Yeah, OK, that bores me to tears as well.

Muhammad Ali: The greatest? I don't think so.

Leave this place now blasphemer! Not only was Ali the greatest in the ring, he was the greatest out of it. He stood up for his principles at a time when doing so was deeply unpopular and overcame the animosity to become the most recognised, and possibly loved, person on the planet.

Boxing: Put Muhammed Ali in a UFC octagon and see how long he would have lasted!

UFC? You call that sport? A bunch of thugs where they belong, in a cage. Ali had craft and skill and never had to learn how to fight like that, so of course he be killed. But put one of those guys in a boxing ring with Ali in his prime and he would have made them look like the neanderthals they are before flattening them.
