Instead of actually looking at the picture, I'll content myself with wondering if she'll grow up to be a poker player.

A picture of her face. Wtf, why would it look any different? She probably won't even make it to 18 anyway...

"it" ? I think you meant "she". poor child.

Okay, just got the video to load. God, that's horrible.

Maybe when she gets to the age where the bones would normally stop growing, they could insert a prosthetic face or something ...

Its not a news story. Its a public interest story.

It has been a slow news month. I signed up for CNN news alerts and got 3 this month. One saying the whitehouse was evacuated, the other saying that the whitehouse has been unevacuated.

poor kid, i hope life turns out OK for her, at least the people take her for whats inside her and for not what she looks like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

I'm sure the surgeons will do their best. Remember the little boy, David. He was missing half his face and got it reconstructed. I'm sure they can do the same for her. She does seem to have a lot of conplications though. :(
The good thing is she doesn't know any different...

    sad....

That's one of the most heartbreaking stories I've ever seen and I consider the jokes that have been said by a few on this thread to be tasteless and disrespectful. I really hope those people who made those jokes did not make them after seeing the footage and if they haven't seen the footage, perhaps they should as it would shut them up soon enough.

God bless that child and her parents. Those parents have my respect for caring for their kid. It must be incredibly difficult.

Poor pet, she seems healthy enough and may live long- that may not necessarily be a good thing though- she'll never escape hurtful remarks/ staring.

When they said she had to be fed through her stomach- how does that work?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

tubes are probably inserted into her somewhere and food is pumped in.

As opposed to what? Leaving it on the street? Of course there going to look after it.

Jesus, some people have it a lot worse off with physical and mentally disabled children, at least the child is healthy enough.

Healthy enough? The child has to be fed through its stomach. The parents are clearly in an awful state and it must be very traumatic for them.

Freaky! Also she does have a face just a severly disfigured one. Probably could be fixed up with a lot of surgery.

It was on channel 5 last week on a documentry.

yep she wont survive to adulthood, she can hardly breathe, and needs to be fed thru a straw. no way to live nevermind her normal sense of fun or her disfigured face. the doctors wont be able to do much with her, look at michael jackson, they turned a good looking man into a freak.

i have seen it before where miracles are promised. nothing can be done for her with medicine the way it is today. it is very sad but unfortunately genetics is a very complex chemistry and mutations happen sometimes for better or worse.in this case it is incredibly sad for the parents.

also she cant close her eyelids and her eyes were all inflamed, that will lead eventually to severe vision problems. even if real surgery is possible, it couldnt really be done till the facial structure has matured, ie till after her late teens.

That is by far the most heartless, yet one of the funniest, things I have ever read. I honestly don't know how to react!!

Wow, thats nuts. Poor girl. Thank God for modern medical science. I'm sure that the doctors will be able to help her a lot.

Yes she can crawl, play and hug people.

Thats a lot more then some children can do.

Actually, what I think they're going to do, is cut through the bone, behind where her face is, and see if they can reconstruct it.
    Piste wrote:

Before you were born, you were fed through there as well. Proberly the same process, with a special diet.
    lomb wrote:

They've already stretched her mouth as much as possible, so I say its just a side effect of this. Many operaions done, many more to do.

    =-=

I'd say she'd be OK by about 4 or 5. Due to it being early days yet, the amount of work they can do ill be limited, and any artifical work they do do will have to be redone every so often, as the child grows, so no one part gets "stuck".

But she can do alot less than what most children can do. Surely you agree that the child has an incredibly difficult life ahead of herself?

well well agree to disagree on that one. here is someone after numerous surgeries http://www.treachercollins.org/main.html

Of course but you made it out like the parents were some how heros for even considering to keep her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

Well, they stay positive about it, which is what I think makes them brave. Maybe in 15 years we'll see her on one of those Ripleys believe it or not things, where they show how they saved disfigured babies.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,284 ✭✭✭pwd

I agree the american media sucks ass.
It is vulgar to have ths on the news.
I suppose in 15 years the family will be on a Springer type show.

yeah i couldn't watch most of that, turned it off as she was playing the piano thing with the first clear shot of her face. My reaction shows that she has a very tough life ahead.
