All-in-one controllers

    I'm considering buying an all-in-one controller, but know next to nothing about them. I'd be using it for TV, DVD, Sky and stereo. Do I need to find one that works specifically for my appliances, or would most quality (ie, not Argos) all-in-ones work with all major brands (the TV is Philips, as is the DVD. The stereo is Sony. I'm such a label wh*re ;))

    Can anyone recommend a particular controller? Those ones that light up the appropriate buttons depending on what you're controlling look interesting.
