The worst possible thing happend to me today the travel compnay who I booked me trip to Istanbul with. Sent me the tickets by Swiftpost and guess what happend some (censord) robbed the postman and my two tickets.

The travel agent wont refund or get me new tickets. An Post wont take the responsability and Mastercard wont either...

I feel sick I am leaving on Sunday with no match tickets. I dont think it is going to be sorted by tomorrow because none of the above companies will do anything it is wrecking my head.

Anyone have any good ideas and how to help me.....

In fairness now someone has to take responsibilty, and I would start at the travel company, its up to them to take this up with An Post.. I would check out the legal situation on this, paid for goods but never recd etc. Not your fault the comany did not provide the goods as paid for.

The Travel company is the key here, wasting your time with an post, its travel company who can sort you out with replacement tickets.
I'd get onto the company and if not then try ringing some tabloid and filling them in on it, company will be quick to sort it out then,

Get onto a consumers organisation IMMEDIATELY. Have this sorted.

they will have the codes of the tickets and should be able to mark them, get the flucker jailed.

    Typical scousers! ;)

You paid for the goods and never received them, therefore you have every right to deny payment. The travel company needs to sort it out with An Post. They need to get from An Post in writing what actually happened so that they can make a claim. Unfortunately this isn't the kind of thing that will be sorted before Sunday :( . Fingers crossed you do.

Swiftpost don't have a guarantee of delivery either, although if it can be proven that they were negligent in their handling of the mail i.e. left the bag at the top of the road, then liability should come into it, imho.

If the situation was reversed and you were sending a cheque to pay for your tickets and it went missing, you'd be the one expected to sort it out. Somehow I don't think the travel agent would accept "it's An Post's fault, I sent the cheque, take it up with them".

You didn't get the goods, therefore you don't have to pay for them. It was up to the travel agent to ensure that you got your tickets. Sending the tickets by Swiftpost, wtf, are they totally stupid? Swiftpost is the worst way to send anything of value, because it doesn't get signed for. They should have sent it by registered post.

Demand your money back, if needs be - go to a solicitor.

Get on to the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs, and/or a solicitor. Also do as joejoem said and try and get the tickets marked.

You could be on your way to Istanbul yet, you lucky basturd.

Nope, I would have said that regardless of whether Liverpool won every trophy possible on this planet or in the Ryman's League.

Do the travel agency have proof that they sent out the tickets? If they dont have a record of posting it then surely that makes them liable.

but you im sure are defintely entitled to get your money back from somebody wheter it be An Post, Travel Agency or the Credit Card company (if your signed up for protection that is)

The Star know about it and just rang me said they will come out and take a photo for tomorrows paper hopefully some good comes of it

I've just been speaking to one of the guys that organises the post in our place.

He said to request a copy of the swiftpost log book page which will have been signed by anpost. This will prove that the agent sent a letter to you (will not prove that tickets were in the package).
Call anpost with the details of the tracking number and play it dumb (i.e. just tell them you are expecting something important and let them tell you what the story is).

If you get nowhere with the travel agent contact the ITAA.

Contact George Hook on newstalk to name and shame the agent.

Go to instanbul anyway and kick up an almighty fuss and make sure everyone on the trip knows what happened.

BTW I'm an UTD fan but this should not happen to anyone.

    Tip.

    and Joe duffy too.

he loves to do stories like this and with a bigger listenership it gets taken seriously. he would also try to get the travel agent and an post on the air too for their side of the story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭Davexirl

Yeah Joe Duffy knows about it aswell hopefully some good comes of it

Hard Luck mate, keep us posted if you're doing any interviews etc on radio or whatnot.

If it was me, yeah id be gutted, but you're not going to sort this out beforehand imo, go to instanbul and hopefully you can pick up a ticket

I doubt very much the travel agent doesn't have a ref no. for the tickets,i'd say they just couldn't be bothered looking. My sister went to the juventus game in Anfield, their 4 tickets didn't arrive before they left.On the night they went to the ticket office gave in the ref no.,showed id and they gave them the seat no's no problem.By the way the tickets never arrived !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

Fukkin disgrace. I personally think it's the travel agent you have the beef with, you dealt with them, if their method of delivering your goods failed, then they should be dealing with An Post on your behalf.
Fukking disgrace of a company to not have a proper system in place. To be honest I think they're may be a bit more to this than meets the eye, it was probably masterminded by an employee... :D

Yeah a lot of people or coming up with conspiracy theroys anyway the travel agent rang me to say he was over in Liverpool today and he managed to get me two more tickets at a very nicely profitable price of €580 each you could imagine my reaction so. An Post say cos it was sent by swift post it is not insured and all i will get back is the pirce of a stamp and I dont see why i should pay for 2 more tickets when I never recieved my first lot. You will see it in the Star tomorrow had to pose for a few pics the photographer made us do a few poses which make us look like gob****es

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

I must buy the Star so tomorrow.

Did you tell the Travel agency that you were going to tell your story to the star or Joe Duffy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

If you don't get a refund take legal action and make sure you let them know about.

    Do NOT let this go.

    CUP DREAM HITS THE POST

Robbers nick pals' final tickets from postie

Tiz on the front page! I bought it this morning.

    EDIT:
Holy crap, just after reading the whole thing now  Ye paid €5,000 for the tickets? And to get the tickets robbed then :( Man, that's awful, I hope you guys get something sorted out, because that really really sucks, no wonder ye are devastated :(

It said that a spokesperson for AIB said ye can claim back the money? So keep hassling them, and keep hassling the travel agent too.

Named and shamed: PREMIER SOCCER PROMOTIONS (based in Offaly)

It sounds better. Surprised they didn't throw the 1 million euro mark down.

More of a "wow" factor when it's got more 000's after it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

Still though, over €2k is a hell of a lot of money to be ripped off over. Definitely hassle the travel agent, go to court if you have to!

There is a full story on it - tiz at the bottom of the front page where they give a summary of it and then the actual story is on page 4.

Sorry to hear ur grief mate -shocking stuff - some thieving gypo in the Travel Agent is the obvious suspect.

Have a quick look at the Star website - it's a day back but I must say it is one of the most impressive web sites I've ever come across - might set it to my home page

yeah that website is awful. sorry to hear your bad luck. most likely you'll get it sorted but probably not before you get to Istanbul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

good Article, front page, very impressive. Did you get any money from the star

The price isn't that bad considering its 7 nights in istanbul.

I know i wouldn't have thought twice, had i been able to get time off.

Any joy on tickets yet? What was the speel about your man going to liverpool looking for tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭Davexirl

Still no tickets, I rang the travel agent saying I cant afford to buy more tickets of you. Your one on the phone saying ohh he went to a lot of trouble looking for 2 more tickets blah blah and I was just thinking ya so he can make a nice profit on the tickets at €580 each, I

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

Those people at that travel agent are twats!

**** sake, saying "he went to a lot of trouble looking for two more tickets", dammit, it was his fault that he didn't send the tickets by registered post in the first place!!

What sort of a muppet sends champions league FINAL tickets by Swiftpost?! It's his DUTY to find you two more tickets, I definitely will never be buying tickets from that travel agent anyway.

I really hope you get your tickets sorted Dave, it sucks so bad :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

That's unbelieveable, they haven't got the balls to take it on the chin and absorb the cost for their own mistake.

    Disgrace.

It's their fault, so stick it to them :)

Don't let them fob you off and be sure that if they don't sort you out without you having to put your hand in your pocket you will sue them. And actually do it...

And don't buy the tickets off him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

    Get onto a solicitor now.

You could get the whole trip cost back (not that you want it) or get money before trip because its so specific.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 694 ✭✭✭brianomc

I feel really bad for you.

At least twice between January and August last year the mailmans bag was stolen in Ryevale in Leixlip. Both times An Post dropped in a postcard a day or 2 after informing people of it. It didn't stop the postman leaving his bike outside my house and walking down another road leaving the bag unattended for about 5 minutes. Brutal. I remember as a kid (only about 15 years ago) the postman used to cycle the bike to every house. A bit of cop on wouldn't go amiss.

If An Post want to claim no responsibility they could at least train their delivery guys/gals a bit better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

Read the article just there in the shop (couldnt be arsed paying for it). Must say that it was well done. However, one thing I want to know is that Premier Travel have said that they were looking for more tickets for you... were they insisting you pay for them?

I think Premier Travel have came out fairly well from that article! Well a lot better than they should have!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭Davexirl

Thats what I thought they sound like they are trying the best for me but want me to pay for more tickets. I am leaving in a few hours but me Ma is going to ring up Joe Duffy or Gerry Ryan on Monday to see if they can sort out this mess. I want two match tickets but it looks like i am only going to get a refund well I hope but i would say its going to take weeks to sort it out
