Sad to see the muesum in such a poor state, is it lack of funding or do they need some restoration help too? It is a pity between all the car clubs they couldn't give some time. Deserves it's own thread this.

I was there myself the weekend before - the two things that struck me were the desperate need for money and the dedication of the people who run it. There was a guy in a tram stripping old paint off, two other lads working on a school bus, a couple of others in a shed outside with a bus on a lift, and one hung-over looking teenager wandering around with what looked like a large conrod.

Haven't been there in ages but live near enough to it. Some of the vehicles are in a fairly poor state - actually a shocking state for a transport museum. Might wander over at the weekend and donate a tenner or so.

Well one leads to the other, its essentially because there is no money, the state has no real interest and there doesn't seem to be any wealthy private benefactor to help them. I had a brief chat with the guy on the desk yesterday, but a few years back spent over half an hour there chatting to someone. Things haven't changed much.

Interestingly a lot of the descriptions mention that back in the 80's a lot of these were restored by AnCo (forerunner to FAS, now Solas), I've no idea if they still do this or if a transition year crowd would do one as a project though it wouldn't surprise me if health & safety issues have something to do with it.

I think part of their problem there is space, I couldn't fit between some of them and it takes away from the experience but i think at the moment they have to take every vehicle they are offered as some of them are so rare and so many have been scrapped over the years. They also need to go indoors for weather protection.

I also feel that the museum is a bit out of the way for most people. What would be ideal is if they could get a premises in Dublin for some of the vehicles and rotate them regularly with maybe some thing like a couple of the old tram cars as permanent exhibits. Easier said than done, it would need a donation off some person or state body but it would be lovely to see.

Fair play to them though for keeping it going, its people like this, and indeed the groups who keep old locomotives on the road that are real unsung heroes.

Saw outside Applegreen on the N11 yesterday.

Had a pug dog sitting on the armrest awaiting the owner's return!

^The best colour to set it off too. The fact that the bottom of the doors are also painted is rare enough and gives it an even more luxury look, though black over silver/grey does it for me too. And a set of AMG style monoblocks is the cherry on the cake.

God knows but that is so much more elegant than the present C216. Bruno Sacco's best design imo.

    Lucky Pug!

How many others, on first glance, read that as a Pug shitting on the armrest? Or am I on my own? :o:D

NAMA would have acres of potentially suitable properties. Certainly worth a scoping exercise.

Not often you will see one of these, this was in original condition too, first day paintwork. The blurb on thre windscreen said it narrowly avoided being scrapped ofter the original owner died only some relation thought it might be interesting to someone and dragged it out of the lockup before the scrapman got there. New on 30 Nov 1982 it was showing 9741 miles at the last MOT in 1995, and was sitting unused in the original owners garage until last year when he died. Theres only 1 other 1982 Strada taxed in the UK. It now has crossed the 10k mark.

I know its not everyones cup of tea, but i love original stuff like this, especially cars that usually went ragged pretty quickly in normal use.

Sorry for the low res pics, i was using my phone as my proper camera wouldnt play ball...:(

surprised it hadn't rusted away by now;)

They were only called "Strada" in the UK and the US, I think.Ritmo everywhere else.

Here is my pic of it. It really did look like new. A neighbour used to have one when they came out first. His naturally rusted as it was a daily and never washed/garaged.

    Cheers Hermy,

It's from the Auto Collections in the Imperial Hotel, Las Vegas. I've also got lots of pics from SEMA but much of it was modern. Over 160 photos so too many to post, see link for same here.

On the way to local NERA branch i saw this.. I don't know what this is... Shot through fence, so I couldn't go closer to have a proper look. It looks like Jag Mark IV, but the boot lid and windows are different (but maybe I'm wrong) .. shot about a week ago..

    Centre Park Rd., Cork.

few yards away this mint Beetle.. you can't see it on the picture, but it had brand new Superlites..

I was just sorting through stuff and I found this and thought it was worth posting, taken summer 2010, a 79 T2 and a 65 T1. The T2 was owned by French woman living here, its in perfect condition.
