Another question. Name three Trinity areas/buildings where you can find works by Pomodoro. For bonus points name the Trinity person who collected his works and the place where you can find a sculpr similar to the most famous of these works.

Good to hear from you. We must meet up soon.

I think that is a Picasso but I might be wrong but as regards being around a World Centre for something you are on the right track. Actually I am wrong I was thinking Chicago. There is a Popodoro "sphere within sphere" outside the UN. But there is a THIRD one! clue: What was Trinity college set up for sorry I should drop the hanging prepositions, for what purpose was Trinity College set up... bah Trinity college was set up for what purpose? ...hah!

Anyway given that tradition which has only recently been broken (in the last year) where in the world would you think is most unlike that tradition? Now how do I add a picture to a message? What tags do I use?Sphere within sphere

The first "squiggly green marble thing" is actually probably the most "priceless" piece of Art in college aside from of the Book(s) of Kells.

$5 million is cheap at the price http://www.shareholder.com/bid/news/20041007-144898.cfm

It is a Henry Moore called "Two reclining figures" I believe

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Moore

What "squiggly thing" in James' ? In a building or outside an entrance?
    where outside it?

The copy of Picasso's Geurnica is inside the hall of the UN which means it gets to act as an interesting backdrop to some press conferences.

Interesting. When it was originally displayed it was opposite a facist collection of "proper" art. They couldn't understand how this "decadent" stuff was attracting more visitors. Probably wrote it down to ignorance of their élitist predisposition. Ironically it is the left that are élitist nowadays :)

    .
Yes but it was also set up to train Anglican Priests. Education meant Theology up till very recently. That is why the irish language has such a strong history in College. Catholics stuch with the Latin. Protestants went for the vernacular. the first prints (pamphlets) in Irish were done in College. The second? Provost Bedell oversaw the first Irish Bible. He actually learned Irish and Hebrew to do so!

The Priest Training College still exists and according to the statuted one must be Church of Ireland to head it. the Provost is the head so that means... aha! say you but he isnt! The statutes allow the Vice Provost to substitute as head so that is why the last two Vive Provosts have been C of I. then again when ever was there a non C of I (or Anglican) Provost? Then again there was one "head" of college who was not C of I/Anglican. He was Catholic. Anyone know when that was? And I am not referring to anyone who is now living?

Michael Moore. I think he was appointed by King James?

on a related (real) question (that I don't know the answer to):
who appoints the Regius professors in TCD? I assume it's not the Queen...

the Board I suppose. they do have final approval. But (and i no doubt will draw flak for this) the Regius Professor is really a senior lecturer post similar to american University "professors," who are really lecturers by our system. so it isnt a full chair.

I think seven years is a bit too long without a bit of trivia.

What does FEM stand for within Trinity?

It stands for Finite Element Method in the Parsons Building...

This takes the cake for zombie threads.

So, are the laser huts called the laser huts because there are actually lasers in there?

    What a fantastic thread...

Where in College can you find a bathtub for the express use of students?

Well done! It's in the bathroom near the entrance to the East Dining Hall, with the following inscribed in a plaque above:
    HAS BALNEAS
    IN VSVM STVDENTIVM HVIVS COLLEGII
    PRO LIBERALITATE SVA
    A SOLO POSVIT ADORNAVIT

    EDVARDVS COMES DE IVEAGH

Its for the use of the scholars if I understand the plaque correctly.

Not an expert in this, but I think "scholares" is the traditional translation for scholars at TCD.

I'm sure there is an interesting story behind the origins of this bath.

Don't know if I'm late to the party here, but TCD is now on Google Street View.

On the theme of tunnels on campus, I never knew what was below the Trinity centre in James's Hospital.
