There's been a few threads on the DCU board about the gym there, but thought it would be a good idea to get some opinions from people who use it that aren't students.

How does it shape up to the other gyms in Dublin like Westwood, Crunch etc?

em i think carlisle is a much better gym especially if you are there to do weights as most people in carlisle just use running machines etc...so they are always free!

I've seen some people using the old gym equipment up in the viewing gallery - is that accessible to members?

The old gym has been converted into a sort of 'team gym' for the GAA teams etc. Thats the viewing gallery aswell. Theyre also trying to get club teams in from outside to use that gym as far as i know as theres a fairly good set up up there i.e. up to 50kg dumb bells and that but normal members cant use it although a few of the regulars from the old gym(people who used the old gym alot) have been allowed in to use it a bit. The new gym is alright but it relly is more of a fitness sweet type of thing rather than somewhere to do serious weights. Most of the big lads from the old gym didnt transfer over and have presumably joined another gym. Basically if your not a student(i dont have much option BUT to go there) and into proper lifting id join somewhere else. If you just want to get fit then its a nice place to be.
