The World in 2030:- My Predictions.

    Hi all,
I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this, but this forum is one of the busiest , so this will allow more people, to view them and give their opinion on them.
These are my predictions for the next 25years, I have thought them out well.

    Technology

I think that as a society we are headed more and more towards automation, I think that more and more of the mundane tasks around the home, will become automated. One example of this already is the “robot vacuum cleaner” and there is also a robot lawnmower.
TV will become more prevalent in our lives, CRT screens will become dormant sometime around the middle of the teens ie. 2010 to 2019. Internet speeds will increase rapidly in the coming years, Standard dial up will eventually consigned to history. But not as soon as we’d like, I’d say Ireland should have 99% broadband coverage by 2015, speeds like recently demonstrated in Hong Kong of 1GB symmetrical should become the standard by the late teens early twenties. This sort of bandwidth will eventually lead to people no longer buying DVDs and games etc. but just buying a spindle of disks and burning everything they need but I think that current filesharing systems that allow you to download stuff for free will become defunct only on authorised applications.
More and more people will work from home especially telemarketers and secretarial workers.

    World Issues

The world as we know it will be a vastly different by 2030. This Geo political power shift will especially contentious, China and India will be the main economic power houses of the world, America will be well down the ladder as an economic power house, although it will still be a major military force in the world, The EU will expand further from it current borders, I can eventually see Russia joining the EU as will Turkey and some newly reformed North African Countries, the Euro currency will be used as standard throughout the EU, Britain having joined sometime between 2010 and 2015. Ireland will become united under the Anglo-Irish agreement of 2023 outgoing Liberal Democrat Britsh PM was keen to dispose of the territory due to the high costs of propping up its economy, the IRA eventually disarms fully before 2010, and the assembly is restored with green and orange sharing power and beginning to get used to a peaceful relationship together. Iraq’s long running civil war end in 2025 when a multilateral peace keeping force arrives, the war began in 2010 after us troops departed to join EU troops to invade North Korea after the dreadful Nuclear Attack on San Francisco, the war destabilizes the entire far east, with Taiwan being invaded by Chinese Troops, America refuses to intervene because of unrest at home due the economic collapse of 2017, mainly caused by former president Bush’s bungling of the economy at the start of the century.

    The Environment

By the mid noughties the world was beginning to wake up to the enormous consequences of the Oil age and our savage waste of this valuable commodity during the last 30 years of the 20th century. 2005 was the year that actually started the chain of events that began to change peoples perception to energy. It all started with huge floods in Romania during May NB. this is actually happening right now. Hurricanes hammered the US during the autumn of that year, Tsunami devastated Asia was hammered by some of the biggest cyclones ever recorded to strike. Desertification throughout Africa became a very big problem, not because the west actually cared but because of all the dust reaching northern Europe and South America. Hundred of thousands of species become extinct over the next 20 years, scientists and logging companies play it all down as a thing of nothing and as a lot of them were genetically mapped it doesn’t matter anyway as they can be brought back, how wrong they were as the people of 2030 look back. Massive world backlash towards the united states is recorded as the last piece of Artic Ice melts during the summer of 2026 condemning the polar bear and countless other species to extinction in the wild, the still exist in zoos however. Continuing pressure is put in to develop more clean and more importantly Co2 free energy, especially for Transportation, Hydrogen start to become more viable but the European Governments tax it and there is huge protest over taxing what is essentially water. America suffers hugely as Gasoline goes over $25.00 a gallon for the first time ever, those gas guzzling suvs become a sight to be seen as more and more of them are parked up forever, however Europe and Japan do not suffer as harshly as our American neighbours, having invested heavily in Wind power in the teens and Hybrid technology in the end of the noughties.

    Other Issues

The Catholic church is in turmoil as pope Benidect XVI dies suddenly in 2009, more and more westerner are disillusioned with the Church and their failure to lead through a period of gargantuan spiritual change. The Majority of people question their faith after the release of the Da Vinci Code film a brilliant adaptation of Dan Browns book of the same name. The Film goes on to become the biggest selling film ever, Scotland is experiencing a Tourist revolution as more people goes in search of the Holy grail.
Judaism is under the biggest attack since World War II when promised independence to Palestine is withheld in 2012, Arab nations join forces and invade Israel, America is powerless as they and coalition forces are bogged down in North Korea and are busy drawing up plans to invade China if they do not withdraw from Taiwan.
Islam becomes the Worlds biggest religion after atheism during the mid twenties, although the new pope peter the great urges Christians to rise against what he calls satans forces on earth, this helps the Islamic cause.
2029 Michael O Leary resigns from Ryan air & space, he has seen the company devastate the trans-Atlantic market and begin the first low-cost lunar space flights, Spain complains to the World trade organisation about the amount of holidays being taken to the moon and mars, it is beginning to disrupt their economy.

    Irish Issues

During the 2007 elections which saw the Fianna Fail party obliterated and only 20 seats held by them, Fine gael makes big losses and are considering disbanding, the newly formed Irish Democrats sweeps to power with a labour coalition, TD Joe Higgins is elected Taoseach and announces that the gama construction company is to be nationalised, the Tribunals of 2012 finds Bertie Ahern and Mary Harney guilty of mass misjudgement and fines them heavily. Michael McDowell is elected leader of the Irish Right Wing National party he loses his seat in Dail during the 2012 elections which sees Trevor Sergeant elected Taosieach for the Irish Democrats, Joe Higgins is gone to Europe to try and convince the eurocrats that a liberal socialism works.
2015 Irelands population stands at 6million the world is at 7.5billion, 12 billion by 2030, Dublin is in meltdown with 3 million people living there. The M52 is being built but congestion is still bad although things have eased since the Oil crisis of 2020, Taoiseach Royston Brady of the FF/Irish Democrats coalition are planning a €2trillion new city between Mayo and Galway, the new Connaught City west as its known is home to over one million, Irish People now make up only 65% of the Countries Population, Over 500,000 Russians immigrate to Ireland after Russia joins the EU in 2025, Connaught City West is under pressure already. 2026 Ireland and Scotland hosts the FIFA world cup, Ireland now has 5 world class stadiums Croke Park, (opening temporary to accommodate the World Cup), Lansdowne Road finally finished during 2021 after the biggest planning debacle in European History, during the economic boom of after 2007 The New Government gives permission to a conglomerate to build the National Stadium in Abbots town , The government give €300million grant aid to the project it is built by newly nationalised gama construction. Smart Telecom park is built between the Fai and the Telco company during the mid teens it is situated somewhere in mid Kildare. The GAA agree to temporary open the newly refurbished Thurles to the event, it can accommodate 60,000 people. Ireland reach the Semi-final of the world cup but are knocked out by Uruguay after a dubious goal, riots are prevalent in Croke Park after the event 2 Uruguayans are seriously injured. South Korea defeat Uruguay in the final 2 -0 Croke Park becomes a big refugee camp afterwards as coalition forces invade North Korea, the conflict spills into the south and the South Korean team & fans refuse to leave Ireland. They are located to Limerick, where they integrate well they are offered citizenship and most accept, although 5,000 returned to South Korea to fight in World War III. Cork and Kerry Protest as they have to play their all-Ireland football final, in Smart Telecom park, Kerry Defeat cork 1-13 to 9 points to win the 42nd all Ireland. Leitrim Celebrates their first Hurling all-Ireland after defeating Clare by a point at smart telecom park.

Well these are some of my predictions for the next 25 years, please let me know what ye think

    Regards netwhizkid.

The day Joe Higgins (or any socialists for that matter) becomes Taoseach is the day I leave Ireland.

Also, its far to accurate for anyone to come near to believing it.

I predict a dramatic reduction in technology usage, more respect for communities and less about the world as a whole. See: Oil Peak. Come on, it's gonna happen by 2030 if not 2006....

My prediction for drugs in general, is that maybe eventually say in the mid 2020's that weaker drugs maybe legalised in larger countries like the USA, but i can't see it coming in here to be honest. My prediction is that the war on the drugs will be won by the mid 20's as global warming renders 3rd world countries like Columbia and Afghanistan unsuitable for the production of drugs. As the public deficit in various countries grows some form of legalisation may come into effect but they would be taxed extremely heavy. I predict that the biggest drug of all Nicotine ala Cigarettes will be banned. If i'm alive that day, it will be a joyful day for all. I reckon that before any ban comes into affect, more mental hospitals should be built and increase the police force, as every smoker in country would go mad, if they are without their Cigarettes for as much as one minute.

I commend netwhizkid on an attempt at future prediction......

Peace in the north will pick up a gear by the death of Ian Paisley Sr and replacement with someone less fundamentalist like Peter Robinson.

I do see the eventual fall of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael and the replacement by a european style left/right/green and others system that you find elsewhere in the EU. Lets face it, civil war politics has no place in a modern european democracy.

I also see the Euro as being the dominant world currency, supplanting the Dollar in about 10 years time.

In medical technology, stem cell research will blossom and accelerate exponentially resulting in widespread use and organ regeneration technology over the next 25 years. This will result in longer life and greater pressure on cost of treatment and the social outcomes extended retirement time brings.

The drop in oil production will have a far greater effect than was mentioned. Apparently our whole world society runs on it i.e. not just cars.

You have to be realistic. 40 years ago they thought we'd be living on the moon by now :). It's fun to speculate though. In 20 years you can look back and see how wrong you were :D.

    Here's my theorys...

    Technology:
I'm predicting a complete crash around the year 2012-2017. (That is if oil peak hasn't all ready happened by then) My basis for this is, what can PCs do? Computer Games, watch Video Files, listen to music, do word documnents etc... Computers these days are powerful enough to do all of the above. And a 20Ghz computer would be more than enough to do the above. So why does one need a 256Ghz processor if they'd get as much use out of a 20Ghz processor.. One can say **** like there'll be DVD2 disks and SCD for music. But the thing is with music and video, there is a certain level of quality whereby the human-eye for example wouldn't be able to distinguish between the sufficient quality and a more than sufficient quality. In other words, computers only need to be so good. (Unless we all start pluging into the matrix or something ;) )

    World Politics:
When peak oil does come. I'm predicting WW3. I have my suspicions that the US government can see this and are trying to sort it out now. i.e. get your foot in the door of the middle east (Via Iraq).
I'm predicting a war probably with China and the USA being the main enemies. (The two main users of oil). I predict that the US will hence or otherwise collapse as a world power. The thing about oil peak is that when it comes, due to the way the US economy is, they'll be hit the hardest. If the US and china do go to war, it won't be fought in the US or China, rather in the middle East. If the US or Chineese forces set foot on eachothers soils, nukes will be deployed. Therefore this won't happen.
Europe will come out as the strongest world power after the oil peak.

Dear god, when did they say it was coming? 2007

    Fashion:
The naughties fashion and music will progress into a new and upgraded version of 80s music and fashion *cringe* (You can allready see this happening :()
Then the teenies will be like a new and upgraded version of the 90's :)
Based on the fact that the 90s was like the 70s, the 80s was like the 60s, the naughties are like the 80s.

    Oh, and...

DA WURLD IS GONN END TOMORRO. ARRRRRRH, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!

2030-Iceland will have an economy based entirely on the hydrogen fuel cell.

Americas economy will collapse and the rest of the world will leave the inbred rednecks to stew in their own stupidity

The green party will be in power here, but too late to affect the changes that should have happened in te mid 20th century,

Missions to mars, a sizable populace on te international space station.

    later;
World war 3 will result in a mass destruction of the planet.

The fiew survivors will found a society based on equality and pecae, the third epoch of humanity, thye next ctage of our evolution, the Age of Aquarious, whatever ya wanna call it will have dawned by this centuries end,

    Moved from AH.

In terms of technology, I think we're moving back towards the multi-user dumb terminal mode of operating, but in a residential context instead of a commercial one.
Siemens will sell all-in-one home solutions, a €2000 server which runs all of your NetHome(tm)-compliant appliances, but also serves the traditional purposes of gaming, entertainment, education and internet access via terminals installed wherever the hell you want them. A server dedicated to running your home will be as commonplace and essential to a home as the cooker or the washing machine.
Soon enough, housewives will be calling out a technician when their fridge stops working, who'll tsk, shake his head, and mutter things about viruses, spyware, and this not being very cheap to sort.

Why did you say Siemens? Intel are investing heavily in this at the moment, and are looking likely to dominate the market.

I could have just as easily said "<insert random popular household appliance maker here>".

    "Siemens" is shorter. :)

Chances are, as you say, that a manufacturer previously known mainly in the computing sector will end up a big household name.

The key word here is VIABILITY.

The energy latent in a barrel of oil is enormous compared to energy in any of the current oil "replacements". They are not even in the ballpark.

[Which reminds me - I have to put oil in my car.]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭bonkey

I find it interesting that the OP predicts the furtherment of our IT-driven, meda-centric world on one hand, whilst predicting the downfall of the economies and nations driving that concept.

Similarly, the US will be bankrupt, oil will be massively expensive, but the US will be able to afford go to war and remain the dominant power in that respect, but won't be able to beat out North Korea without help.

And so forth. There's a number of those "predictions" which are almost impossible to gel together. Generally, its when you take one which says "this established trend will continue" and mix it with a "this event prediction will cause all these huge rapid changes" variant.

They don't gel - if the system is going to undergo rapid pivotal change, then established trends go out the window. Alternately, continuation of established trends is dependant on the lack of significant system peturbation.

You can't have both, but the OP wants them.

That was him taking into consideration that computers would be used for no more than typing documents and other primative things.

Can you suggest to me something which would require a processor greater than 20Ghz. Bearing in mind this something has to be something that you or me would do on their PC.

Off the top of my head - Virtual Reality, perhaps?

Take the term "gaming". The best games required 16k to run years ago. Since then the processing requirement to run top games has increased exponentially. Why believe that this will change? Virtual Reality is the holy grail of gaming and it's only going to need more power.

Whether or not we can think of something is irrelvant anyway. It's the assumption that we have already thought of all possible uses, and therefore can gauge how much processing power we need that's wrong.

Yes, bound to happen. Because, you know, after a few years/generations the survivors certainly wouldn't go back to being petty, argumentative and divisive like the current species. Especially not if conditions are tough and resources limited. (I mean, come on. WW2 was the most horrific large-scale war ever fought on the planet and saw the deploment of atomic bombs. Did the survivors end up turning the world into some hippy paradise?)

ive realised what we have to do.. we have to invest in tampons!! when world

will be having more periods.... we could corner the market and bingo!! take
over a small country with the profits and build our own society where people
    can live together in peace.
    ok ready... BREAK!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭rsynnott

There probably won't be another large war, unless it's a Dr. Strangelove-type end of the world event. Too many people have nukes now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭Lennoxschips

When normal oil is too expensive to use, people wills start using shale oil. Shale oil is a type of oil stored in rocks. It has to be extracted from rocks and is therefore very expensive and pollutive to manufacture. There is enough shale oil in the world to power the Earth for 100,000 years, based on current consumption. 70% of the world's shale oil is in the USA (the world is unfair, I know).

Shale oil will be produced when the cost of oil per barrel justifies the shale oil production costs. This happened before, after WWII, when the US was producing shale oil.

I'd love if peak oil forced us to use cleaner energy, but I fear that governments will choose to go back to dirtier sources like coal and shale oil as a "temporary meaurement" which will become permanent, messing up the planet even more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭rsynnott

Nuclear power should be vastly cheaper than shale oil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭Lennoxschips

American Presidents are backed by oil companies, so logic doesn't win out.

I did read somewhere though that if offshore windparks were developed off the coast of the west of Ireland that Ireland could become a net exporter of electricity. The only reason they aren't being developed there now is because the ESB grid isn't up to scratch.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭Catsmokinpot

    my predictions:

    1. the world will not end

    2. 3rd world war, which seems to be the war on terrorism, will continue for a long time

    3. when the oil runs out we'll probably switch to alcohol fuel or vege oil fuel instead of hydrogen power, just to fvck up our planet that little bit more.... and because its easier to convert the abundance of engines we already have to burn this type of fuel.

    4. thousands of species of animals that are already on the verge of extinction will begin to die out.

    5. we still wont find bin laden (and still nobody will care)

Can't see them picking on China TBH.
More likely going to be the other way around.

And I don't think we earthlings stand a chance against the gould.

Forget oil, I think water will be the issue in the future. Desertification, global warming(whatever the cause) and abstraction are causing water tables to drop all over the place and when it gets to a certain level. Energy wise, windfarms and all that are great, but nuclear is the way to go.

As usual in all predictions we'll miss something. 30 yrs ago few considered the internet as having the effect it has had. We could also go backwards. It's happened before in history. 30 odd years ago men were on the moon. Now we seem to have problems with even getting safely into near earth orbit.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The water problem can be solved if the energy problem is.

No, we don't. The shuttle does, but it's a not-very-good politically motivated design. Soyuzs are still popping up as they did 30 years ago.
