What do people think of this place?
Went today for the first time for a swim....a fiver in, a bit steep for 45 minutes swimming but whatever.

Changing rooms were FILTHY, had no decking or that plastic matting to keep people from slipping and cut down on verruca virus spreading. Communal showers that you'd see in a prison (how much more would it have cost to put a few cubicles in?), overcrowding in the pool - which has an unfeasibly deep deepend, it must have been about 7 foot deep!

I checked out the season tickets on my way out after swimming ten laps as there was a funny taste in the water....115 euro per quarter off-peak. That's more expensive than luxury gyms like Westpoint and Total Fitness!

    What on earth?

I used to go there when i was working near Pearse st.Is this the Dublin City Council one?.

I thought it was fine. I had my DDC card and get staff discount which i pay €2.30,and never had a time limit when I went for a swim.

Is this place still open? I thought it had closed. I used to go twice a week when I was studying in TCD in the early 1990s. I liked it because it was very adulty and not full of kiddies half the day.

In fairness to them there are very few public swimming pools left open. Most of the ones left are part of private entres. The public places are very underfunded. I'm surprised to hear this is still open. Brings back memories :-)

go there quite alot as it is the only one near me. wouldn't rate it though. It has two parts to the actual work out centre. One is along by the pool, and it is like a sauna. Just entering it the calories start burning off and the sweat comes. Its quite tough doing 20 minutes on the treadmill in that heat. Isn't the cleanest of places either.Although the aerobic studio is nice for warming down..

I swim there 4 or 5 times a week. It's close to work.

I've no problems with the pool. Whats wrong with the deep end being deep  In fact, it's essential for swimming lessons as diving is an integral part of learning to swim.

The changing rooms could do with a bit of work. I'm not bothered about cubicles, but there's certainly no luxury! And I just love the way the door into the changing room gives a perfect view from reception all the way to the showers - an exhibitionists fantasy :D
