    Hey,

Not really a fan of S.O.A.D but the album has some nice fast guitar playing that sounds excellent.
Anyone else have an opinion on it?

personally i think its pretty muck. it might grow on me. But its just widdly muck to me at the moment. They are real kinda throwaway guitar riffs that are being compensated for by vocal melodies that they could never pull off live.

Never seen them live or listened to any of the previous albums the full way through. A few tracks on this strikes me as decent though.
Sure it didn't cost money anyway ;)

i thought it was very good. i like their old stuff 2, but this is even better

i have it on constant rotation, just can't get enough of it, obviously it's no toxicity but it's a hell of a lot better than steal this album, i'd say it's about on par with their first self titled album

favourite tracks atm are old school hollywood and violent pornograghy

I think this album has some of their best riffs but unfortunatly the songs don't stand up there with those on SOAD & Toxicity.
Less of Daron singing would be nice too!

dont like the guitar on the new single, forget the name, sounds very dry.

Only heard the two singles from it, Cigaro and BYOB. Cigaro not so good but I think BYOB is excellent. So angry.

    Eagerly anticipating the 16th...

I thought it was muck at first myself, but it grew on me after a while....a few of the tracks are very infectious.

Not gold, nor is it the return to the original style that we all want but I'm satisfied all the same.

I can't help but laugh at some of it.
"Hey man, look at me rockin out, I'm on the RADIOOO"

Cool riffs though, and catchy melodies.
Some very strange song structures, and other general weirdness.
Not sure whether it's a good thing yet.

Its quite wierd, even for System of a Down. And quite a bit slower and mellower than their previous albums. Its got its moments, its no Toxicity but its still reasonably good...

I can't wait to hear it.
Have to say I think Steal This Album is very good. It's no Toxicity but there are some classic tracks on it. Roulette is an excellent song and the way it breaks in from Thetawaves is class. I do think they should have left Chicken'Stu out though and have the album start with Innervision, a very cool song.

i saw BYOB live on SNL, and they pulled it off really well. Daron's vocals were pretty good too. Serj is also playing guitar now. THey did Arials and he played on that one.
THe idea of BYOB being too "radio friendly" is dumb though. A good song is a good song.

'Radio Friendly'? That's not how I'd describe it.

But there is a 'Clean' version and an 'Excplicit Album' version.

You couldn't take Chicn'Stu out of Steal This Album! It's a great song, and it really kicks off the album well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

I guess 'fun' is the best word I can use to describe the new album.

Cigaro has a nice chorus to it, not too fond of the rest though.

    what a rocking album.

    blast off
    its party time
and where the **** are you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

The lyrics are mostly crap to be fair - the instrumentals are great, and its got a lot of variety which I'd say will keep you listening.

Some great lines though despite the mostly crap lyrics:

"Its a violent pornography, choking chicks and sodomy, the kind of **** you get on your TV" :)

I've only heard BYOB and didn't really like it. The vocals are a bit annoying at times and the heavier parts just don't sound good. I'm not that big a fan of SOAD's earlier stuff though so regular fans will probably like it.
