I went jogging one night and pushed myself a little too hard and now I have a pain in my upper leg most of the time. So I went to my gp a couple of weeks ago about it. She seems to think I've torn a muscle in my leg. GREAT. Now I have to go to a physio who charges €55 an hour. Has anyone had an experience with this? How long did it take to get sorted out??

I'd never go to a GP for any kind of sports injury/pulled muscle.

Rest is incredibly important, give it time to recover and if it's still causing you discomfort go to a physio. You're better off going to a physio and spending the €55 to get the injury sorted now rather than causing yourself more serious damage down the line.

I went to a GP about a sore knee (was in the Gaelteacht and had no access to physio) and was told I'd just strained it, I went to a physio then and was told I'd torn ligaments and damaged my hamstring.

Its kind of in the front upper/side part of my leg very close to the ball and socket joint. The thing is i did it back in mid november. Now i doesnt hurt when im sitting down but if i were to go for a walk i'd start to feel it. It actually funny how i did it. I was jogging along the canal one nite and i like to add another section each time i go jogging. Anyway I was just at the end of my jog, was ****in recked, and I flew by this old man, must of been in his fifties and he was barley jogging, more power walking. Anyway I looked over my shoulder and he was trying to catch up. I was thinkin, i dont care how tired i am, im not gettin beatin by some old man. And thats why i've been suffering ever since. But he never caught up :)

That sounds like an unusual place to get a leg injury. it's usually straightfoward quad at the front or hamstring at the back pulls.

I'd say get to a physio straight away. You don't want to mess around with injuries near the hip joint or you won't be jogging and in good shape when you're in your fifties like your man!

oh jaysus yea I have, i havent been jogging since december, its driven me crazy, i have all this energy and i cant let it out. The reason why i waited so long is because i thought it might get in the way of important exams i had this year. but now im very eagar to get this problem sorted. Acutally, i've been putting ice on it, that kinda helps a little. But thanks for your concern

Don't slate all GP's - some have much more experience in sports injuries than others. Those who work with students tend to be very used to them. Remember if you eventually need anti-inflammatories to treat the injury, only a doctor can prescribe.

Physios are great and certainly when you have a joint/muscle injury, they should be very highly ranked as a first port of call on par with seeing a GP. If needed a physio will quickly refer you to a doctor. If not, you save a few bob.
