Omni-slash. Beauty, eh, limit breaker-fied. anyone notice the similarities to this limit breaker and the a scene from the matrix.

Actually its the only one i can think of worth mentioning. Squalls final one, something heart if I remember correctly, was a nifty copy of omnislash but I much prefer the original.

Omnislash for me too, it was just so brutal :D

It was Lion Heart. Omni-slash is also my favorite expecially when ya use it against Sephiroth. FEEL MY FURY! :D

omnislash was the best with wakkas attack reels coming in second place, provided you could get the bloody thing right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭The Free Man

yea, i remember the first time i saw omnislash, i was like

auron had some good ones, because he'd always say something cool like 'this is for the fallen!' or 'pray, now!'

yeah omnislash or lionheart, but does anima's limit break count? oblivion kicked ass

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,573 ✭✭✭Infini

You can count that in if you like.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 Crass

Omnislash obviously. First time you see it your just like  at the brutality.

The most helpful one that didn't attack was Rinoa's one where it turned you invinsible for a while, saved me from dying in the last fight on FFVIII.

i renew my support for the omnislash, such a nice reward after all that time spent in that battle arena, and it looks fairly bling

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

I am going to have to say LionHeart because of the increased interactivity (the hitting R1 thing)

It's Renzokuken that has the R1 thing ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Yeah but its basicly part of it , y'know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

whats the one you get right at the end of FF7? I only just started playin this game proper and im only about 6 hour in but i remember watchin a mateplayin it loads when i was younger. there was this big boss that used "supernova" on you and then if i remember there was a one on one fight not long after with cloud and someone else and there was a limit break you got right atthe end which killed the guy straight of. what was that called?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

My memory seems to tell me that it is just the omnislash. Of course my memory has been proven terrible so many times. Is that the battle where you have to tap "O"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

No thats the battle that you cant lose against sephiroth, no "O" pushing if i recall

Pity you dont actually get the omnislash forever though

Was that the methaphorical fight or the other fight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

thats the battle but i always wondered, my friend alwaysl taped O so I thought you had too aswell. NooB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Tapping O in the fear that he attacks you maybe, even though you cant lose youd think hed beat you if you werent sure what was going on

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Guess I just didnt want to try not doing it , alot of work possibly down the pan if it didnt work , y'know

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,410 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

If you cancel you will just attack and finish him off automatically after a while with no omnislash.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Must try that , sounds even easier than X's final battle.

Xs final battle was a joke but it took so long taking into account the
    aeon business
, and then the jecht stuff and all the rig-a-ma-roll you went through, worth it for the final sequence though

I was pretty disappointed with the practical uses of the overdrives in that game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

I agree , once you broke the damage limit their uses are scarce.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

they tended not to work on the bosses, like the attacks reels would take off 120,000 or something foolish like that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Its also extremely annoying how none of the status ailments work on any of the bosses after a while or most enemies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

God that was annoyong, and how things like delay attack didnt work

By the time you got half those abilities, they didnt work on most of the stufff you were up against

That being said it is reasonable that you cant put an immortal entity to sleep but it would have been nice for it to work on the battle arena fellas and so forth

If you played it right practically all bosses had a weakness. It would have been silly if you could incapacitate a boss with multiple status ailments. I also liked the bit at the end of FFX although it was more because it was very cinematic and I adore the music during that part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Most of the bosses had no elemental weakness, i am specifically referring to the battle arena fellows who you had to painfully slog through to max stats.

Plus the ailments tended to be obselete once you got them in general.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Yep , nearly all skills are obselete by the time you have got most of them. They really didnt think it through.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,410 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Well the arena bosses were optional and there for a challenge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Just because theyre optional doesnt mean you can just throw them in half assed, in order to beat the dark aeons and penance and all that other jazz you need to fight them alot and ones like the big iron giant and the flan are the most bloody annoying things you can ask for.

Plus in the last area by the time youd achieved a fair amount of abilities they were obselete, i know the game was easy but its the principle of the matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,388 ✭✭✭Cina

To be honest though, the breaking the damage cap in FFX was just completely over the top, it was just square trying to make the game mega long. Fair enough, you needed it to be Penance and co. but .. it was just silly, I would've been much happier if they'dd left the 9999 cap and made penance like Ruby/Emerald in VII or Omega in VIII.

Limit breaks .. hmm... the best ones are Lionheart/Omnislash, closely follow by Zell/Wakkas attack reels yoke.
The most beautiful ones and Aeris's in FFVII and Aurons in FFX!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

I liked aurons becasue of the phrases he used to throw out before doing them like "this is for the fallen" or something along the lines.

VII had a few good limit breaks now that i think about it, Barretts catastrophe was cool and so wsa Cids highwind, cant remember if thats the name or not.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Yeah , see voice acting can add alot.

The damage limit definately needsa to be capped otherwise come final fantasy XV or whatever , the 1000000 hit will not be out of the ordinary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

The limits tended not to hit max damage though with the bosses, understandable i suppose but they at times did less than normal atacks for some reason.

Taking it back to FFVII, you could hit 9999 and with the limit break exceed that a great deal, that was good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

I'd prefer the breaking of damage limit to be more constrained. For example, certain limit breaks, summons and maybe magic can break damage limit. A bit like in FF8 (where I think only Eden, and some of the limit breaks could break damage limit).

That's sort of like FFX though in a way, I can hit constantly for 99,999 but the limit breaks can do about 120,000.

I've always approved of the limit breaks being greatly stronger than normal attacks, i.e. multiple hits and so forth.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Well they kind of have to be otherwise they are just utterly useless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

I found them to be useless enough in FFX because they werent as relatively powerful once you broke the damage limit and got a high strength, they seemed to lose their power.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Yeah , lets hope they learn , I just have atoned myself to ignore the flashing overdrive sign.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Yeah , lets hope they learn , I just have atoned myself to ignore the flashing overdrive sign.

Ha, thats exactly what i do too. I'm sure they will have fixed it by the next release, are they only going to be online from now or something?

    /off to google I go.

Online sucks ass because you buy the game and then the c**ts expect you to pay monthly fees. Jeez , they're thick , that really put them down a notch in my repect . So come summer , I think I'll buy Guild Wars instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

That's why I don't play those games, shelling out the RRP every 3 or 4 months is a joke. I think XII is offline so we might see the travesty remedied.

Guild wars is nice and free I take it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Yeah , just buy the game and thats it visit their site. The even T the P out of other games on their site by saying things like " you've bought the game so why pay monthly fees" and such.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

As long as their future games aren't like it i don't mind. I'll tolerate one or two online games as long as a fewe regular ones are released.

How in the name of God does a limit break thread turn into this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Boredom played a big part , I'd guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

In conjunction with my tendencies to go off on the strangest tangents.

Back on topic I think we can all agree that the omnislash is the best practical limit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭Citizen_Erased

Ah , no i said the lion heart but only because Im an antagonist

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

We'll I've actually yet to witness a limit in that game, and I'm on disc three, they never seem to crop up.

You must not be letting your characters get beat up enough... let the fiends smack Squall around for a while and then let rip (upgrading your weapon with weapons monthly magazines gives you new ones... eg. The Lionheart gives you (you guessed it) the Lionheart)

    Blasting Zone is quality

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

I generally found that when my characters were weak, my main priority was getting their hp back, not using some bling moves. Either way I've never seen one, I'll give it a try once the game gets dug up.
