Change herein is definted as any euro of a value under EUR 1, viz (in cents)
    1
    2
    5
    10
    20
    50

I put it in a jar at home and then someone else bag it and lodges it in the bank
(I think the bank doesn't like that or won't take it anymore cos they don't trust that you have a correct bag?)

Throw it all into a tupperware box which is then dumped in one of those money counting machines in Centra in Ranelagh - I was shocked the first time I used one of those when a lunchbox full of coppers trumped up with upwards of e30 :D So elated that I didn't even mind the 7.5% fee incurred

I throw it into my wallet, and then use it to buy chewing gum, chocolate, whatever it is I'm buying that doesnt warrant the use of a note. :)

Small change (i.e. everything under 50c) goes into jar A. The bigger coins go into jar B which is used for general shop use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

1's, 2's, 5's, 10's and 20's all go into money banks, drawers, etc... At last count (4 months ago) i had about 70 euro in small change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭*Angel*

I throw the coppers into a box and keep the rest for the bus and stuff.

I hate having small change in my wallet. It all goes into a tub as soon as I get home and then it just piles up there. I usually end up giving it away to my little brother and sister.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭namaimo

Usually just accumulates in a pile on my desk till it gets to the stage where i need to do something about it and then it normally gets bagged and brought to the bank...

I've a big plastic Coca Cola bottle...I will fill it with change some day!

I have a plastic container, the same size as a Large Soft Drink in McDonalds.

I throw in all coins less than €1

As soon as it is full, it is counted and bagged, usually between €70 and €100 each time.

I throw all my change into one of those danish cookies tins, last time I counted it all up I had nearly €300. :p

Ive an old bottle I put it into and about every 2 months I get about €200, I only keep €1 and €2 in my pocket and put the rest into the bottle, a local shop has this deadly machine that you dump all your mixed change into and it counts it and gives you a receipt and you just go to the counter and collect your notes, they take about 3%. but that saves sorting filty coins!!

I spend that money on Vinyl and it seems like I get it for free!! (I know that its not free!)

Dump it in an erdinger pint glass at home... some of it i keep in the ashtray in my car for parking ticket and toll booth purposes

I started doing this when i was in college and got a hell of a slaggin for being "cheap" because i was holding onto change like this... then again i was livin with one of the most stuck-up, posh County Dublin **** i ever met

Are you talking bout the metre high ones? I tried to fill a pepsi one a few years ago, I only managed to fill about a tenth of it.

I put all my coins in a small glass bowl, then when it starts to get full, I empty coins of 50c and below into a big plastic container, keeping €1 and €2 coins in the bowl... repeat for a few months until said plastic container is quite full... bag and bank.
My last coin cash-in was €115 or there abouts.

I usually use my 20s for buying smokes when i cant be bothered going to the ATM to get money out. And I use my 5 cents in the vending machines in college :)

So you bag your change and the banks accepts it, you just go to the counter in the usual way and lodge it? do they weigh it, and tell you to come back later or what?

Snap! Small Pringles box for my loose change as well. 1's, 2's, 5's and most 10's. Though I tend to carry 50's and 20's and a few 10's with me. Usually carry anything up to maybe a tenner in loose stuff in my pocket (couple of 2 euro coins, couple of 1 euro coins, few 50, 20 and 10 cent coins).

Oh crap, I just realised, I've potentially left myself wide open to attack from every pickpocket in the country who reads this now!

Throw it all into a little glass, comes in handy for the old bus fare and so on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

1,2,5 and some 10c pieces go into a clear vase on my bedroom windowsill (i sometimes use 5c pieces for bus fares...)

anything larger than that i usually spend in shops/the snack machine at work

I keep the euro coins and put the rest into a glass jug that I only dip into for bus fare. When the jug fills about 3/4 of the way, I empty it, bag it, and store the bags for a time when I don't feel too lazy to bank it. When I do, it's generally in the €100-€150 range.

I throw everything under a euro into a bucket and cash it before my summer holidays every year, I had nearly €500 last year. It's amazing how much change you have after a night out, I usually have a pocket full of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,564 ✭✭✭✭whiskeyman

got a shoe box for them under my bed.
It rapidly fills up... especially after a Friday/Saturday nights when the "pub change fairies" deposit their load after a hards night drinkin.
I let it build up for around 3 months and had nearly €150!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭ando

i just dump 1,2 and 5 coins. The rest I keep in the car and van for parking

small coinage goes in a jar for bus fare emergencies .
1 & 2 € coins get randomly chucked in a darth vader piggy bank
ive probably got about 200 squid in there now

I too have a Coca Cola bottle [bought it in Spoils - Jervis St] which is now 1/2 full!!

The credit card bill is a bit scary at the mo, so I'm gonna cash it off tonight & see how much there is .... last time it was 1/2 full, I had nearly €700.00 in it .... hopefully the same this time :D

1c, 2c and 5c coins are all useless so I put them in a big Celebrations tub. It's half full now but there's probably only about a fiver in it. Can't be bothered to count it.

10c, 20c and 50c I normally spend or put into another metal tin I have. There's about €150 in that at the moment and I'm going to bank it some day, as soon as I get the urge to.

I have another tin that I've been putting €1 and €2 coins in as a way of saving for my holidays to New York in October. I've over €100 in that now but the temptation to dig in and spend is getting high.

I used to pay the bus fare in pennys and twos in college just to pi$$ the driver off :D The look on his face when you hand over 70p in coppers was priceless. Some poor shmuck behind then would usually hand in a pound and get his change in coppers though.

i have a 3 litre vodka bottle and i throw all my change into that!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,382 ✭✭✭petes

I buy beer with it especially when im really broke and I dont care if it takes me longer than a pensioner at a checkout to count enough for my pint. At the end of the day I still get a pint :D (God I hate being paid monthly)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭Tobias Greeshman

I have all my left over coins on my locker beside my bed, Im waiting for the pile to grow larger so I can lodge it into a bank. In hindsight, I suppose I really should buy a jar to put them into, but what can I say Im lazy, I reckon there's close to €25 there!

i strategically store my change all over my wooden floor in my bedroom, arrive home from pub, pockets full of shrapnil and in the process of removing them a loud clatter is heard as it falls bounces and rolls everywhere....i love that sound!!
its about as close as il ever get to the fr ted dream of the big piles of cash and throwing the notes around with the women all laughing :D

Most of it gets spent - if there is a queue I'll try for exact chage. Otherwise into a drawer and then a raid on those if I'm broke and need lunch money.

Got about 1/10 the way through one of those big cola bottles with the old money 1p etc. still there somewhere.

I cashed my change in the other day, came to €8 million.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

I spend it, Thats what its for. I have great pleasure counting out loads of coins to make €1.80 to give to those feckers on the westlink toll bridge every day :D

Here is a tip lads, get yourself one of them coin holder things. They are great as you can count out your change and give it to a shop keeper in seconds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,396 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

3 litre vodka bottle on my windowsill. I throw in all coins I have at the end of the night and then raid it when I'm skint. There's usually about a hundred quid in it.
