stamina prob

I wonder if anyone can give me a bit of advise on how to build up my stamina. I am having problems getting past the 15 minute (or two/three km) mark while jogging.

I am male, 26, 6 foot tall and weigh 11 1/2 stone. I play 5aside soccer every week (no problem lasting the pace - though tired feel no muscle pain the next day). I walk to work, cycle, swim and play tennis now and again so am fairly active. I do suffer from mild asmatha (very rarely have attacks).

Anyone have any advice on how to increase my stamina as I'd like to do some mini marathons and be able to swim for longer!

    Thanks.

I'd say up your distance by 1km every month until you reach the distance you want - it will be a killer for the first week or two at the start of each month but by the end you should be fine - also run at least 3 times a week

Pace yourself. it may be frustrating to begin with, put it pays off. when i started, i could run 3 miles in 30 mins. that was with takin a break twice. two months later, i now run 5 miles in 40 mins without a break. i firmly believe this was due to the fact i started real slow, gradually picking up the pace. mabye you could give it a shot.

    Yep. Build it up.

You'll go from 2k @ 10kmph and walking like John Wayne the next day to 3k then 4k at 12kmph , 5k at 13kmph and further if you want.

A threadmill is cheating a bit (until you start increasing the incline) but it give you great positive feedback on your performance.

Walk and jog for 30mins e.g. 5mins jog (slowly) 5min walk etc until you reach 30mins then the next time 6mins jog and 4mins walk etc for 30mins or more.

Also slow down!!! If you can't jog for more than 15mins then its obvious you are doing too much too soon as the guys said build it up

If your bollíxed after 15mins - then dont stop there - just continue on walking the circuit that you had planned for yourself. Ideally, you shouldn't let this happen ie. go slower (BTW, walking a bit first can be a better option as it helps to prevent injuries - letting the muscles warm up without straining them) - walk a bit/run a bit - and if you've got the energy left for the remainder of your circuit towards the end, then up the pace.
