Ok, this may be a strange problem, i dunno anyone else who has it. and before i start, this is not some kind of boasting thing!
My gf and i were in bed the other night for the first time (we're together 2 months). She asks if i have a condom, to which i reply yes. so, beforehand, im, well... excited. however when i put on the condom, its way too tight and i'm not as excited anymore.
Well, is there a large condom i can get? (this really is a serious problem!)

If you are in Dublin there is a shop on Dame St called Condom Power, it is opposite Georges St. but it is under street level so you need to keep your eyes open for the entrance. They stock Trojan Magnum which is the biggest size condom available in Ireland. They are a bi*ch to get the wrappers open so you might want to keep a scissors on hand.

There is also a company called Passante which have a larger size condom, they are available in many pharmacies but they aren't very big. Other than that try www.ripnroll.com. They have a whole section of larger condoms and it works out cheaper than buying them here. They also do a selecton pack of larger sizes by different companies so you can find which suits you.

And before everyone says that condoms are designed to stretch and will easily fit up your arm so should have no trouble on a penis, this isn't so. While the latex will stretch the end part where it rolls is like an elastic band and does not stretch as easily. It may be able to go over an arm but the penis stays hard because of bloodflow. If you cut off the bloodflow the erection dies. There are possibly quite a few men out there who think they are s**t in bed but are actually just wearing too tight a condom. They just don't realise the problem as they have only ever put a condom on their own penis and don't know that, that is what's wrong.

I find any of the Mates brands to be horribly tight.

The Durex Easy-on range are quite good though.

That place has been closed down for years. It's now the Club Lepello Lapdancing club.

http://www.smartpaddy.ie/ seems to stock an impressive range.

It may be closed now but it hasn't been for years. I bought from there last May, since then I've bought online.

smartpaddy.ie are great for prices but their larest condom size is only 200mm x 54mm which is the same thickness as your average condom, so if it's thickness that is your problem then they won't help. Although from the tiny size difference between Condomi XXL's and regular Condomi's (15mm in lenght, no diff in thickness) one imagines that they are basically a regular sized condom branded XXL for the more, shall we say, delusional amoung us.

As to OP, well I'm going to assume since it was tightness that was bothering you that it's a problem with the width of the condom rather than the lenght of it. I had similar problems when I first started, I found condoms to be painfully tight. But I started with Mates, I switched to Durex Easy-On a few years back and things got a little better. They are still tight but it's not painful, and you do get used to wearing a tight condom, although it's very nice change when you can get your hands on a bigger condom, although they aren't easy to find in this country.

    Interesting Article here: http://www.libidomag.com/nakedbrunch/theyfit.html

If the problem is the condom being too short, I have no experience with that ;)

There is always the option of buying them from a reputable online site, if it's a major problem for you, ie regular condoms split regularily for you.

Durex avanti are the biggest i've found in the shops here, with 64mm width compared to 54mm of a normal one.

They're expensive but way better (thinner/non-latex) than normal ones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

The problem I have is that I'm only averagely or so long (6 1/2" - 7") but quite thick (just over 2" wide at the head, over 6" around). This means that while normal condoms will fit me lengthwise, they won't fit me comfortably in terms of thickness. The thickest condom I've come across is about 1 3/4" inches wide (Trojan), so it still isn't the most comfortable fit. Needless to say, this also means I've often had problems with the condom splitting on me.

Does anyone know of any brands that would be, say, pretty normal length but much wider? I'm starting to feel like it's like trying to stuff a marrow into a sausage skin! :D

I was going to ask the same thing. I've heard of one lad unravelling it and then trying to put it on.

Besides that. I've seen clips on ebaumsworld of a man putting a condom over his head.

    IMO you must have elephantitis.

    Tiffany wrote:

No, I'm putting them on correctly, alright. Even partners I've been with, though, who have tried putting it on as part of the, ummm, foreplay, I guess you could say, have had trouble at times too. It's the little rubber ring at the base that seems to be causing all the trouble, to be honest. The rest of the condom seems to stretch fairly well to accomodate, it's just trying to get that little rubber ring over the head, in particular, and down the shaft is what's causing the trouble, it seems.

Like I said, the Trojan ones I've tried i nthe past seem to be the easiest to get on for me but, still, it's little tricky at times. And the shops where I live don't have a huge selection so I either have to go for the Durex Avanti's, which are wider than normal but still not great, or stock up on Trojan's from some "places", so to speak, in Dublin.

Just thought somebody here may have had a similar problem and may have come across a brand that's a good bit wider than normal comdoms whilst pretty much the usual length.

The Trojan Magnum is extra width as opposed to extra lenght. I'd suggest you try them. Condom Power is now apparently at 57 Dame St (Page, is this right?). So check there. They come in a black box and have a gold counterfoil. It is 1.5 inches wide.

    Details here; http://www.ripnroll.com/magnum.htm

The Magnum XL's details are here; http://www.ripnroll.com/MagnumXL.htm This is the widest condom on the market. Durex XXL is longer but narrower.

One other thing to those with this issue, I don't know if it holds true with all women but sex with a man wearing an undersize condom can be very painful for the woman. The fact that he can't maintain a full erection can lead to extra friction and rubbing which can hurt. So if you think condoms are too small for you get larger ones for both your sakes.

And please god, if you don't need them don't try go up a size for the sake of your ego!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,513 ✭✭✭BrianD3

If the Trojan Magnum XL is too small for you, then your only option is probably the "They Fit" (google it) custom sized condoms.

The Avantis are apparently crap, they are nominally wider than other condoms but they don't stretch due to being made of polyurethane. Latex condoms do stretch with the result that a narrower latex condom may end up feeling less tight than an Avanti.

You're not the only one who has this "problem". My first sexual encounter was a disaster and the fact the condom was too small in both length and width was a contributory factor...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

The Magnum XL's are the one's I've used that I've found the most comfortable, alright. They're the one's I stock up on when I'm in Dublin. As I said, they are a lot more comfortable than any other's I've come across but still a little tricky when it comes to the "putting on" bit. They're grand in terms of length, it's just the width issue I have the problem with still.

But, if they're the widest on the market, looks like I'll have to stick with them, so. I just thought that someone here might have known of another brand out there for the averagely-lengthed but wider-girthed gentleman! :D

Thanks for that mention of "They Fit" custom sized condoms, Brian. I'll have a look and see if there's anything there. Cheers!

Them over sized condoms are just for men with big egos. I once saw an episode of that crap Dismissed on MTV. Some asshole had left them on show on his desk.

Just look what can be done with a normal condom.

Now don't tell me that this wouldn't fit. Here

Don't be an idiot. Blowing up a condom or putting a condom over your head/arm/leg or whatever is completely different to putting it on your cock. Just because a condom will stretch to fit over some random object doesn't mean it's possible to painlessly roll it onto your cock, maintain an erection and shag with it.

Similarly, when women complain about very large penises hurting them (bashing off cervix etc.) during sex, someone inevitably points out that if a baby can come out of the vagina, then even a huge cock should fit comfortably for sex  This ignores the fact that women generally don't have sex by getting some guy to thrust a baby up into their vagina

No... It does. Your cock isn't that sensitive that it needs to be lightly done.

You're wrong. The penis is very sensitive and can certainly be affected by something like an overtight condom. If you're in any doubt as to how sensitive a penis is, try the following experiment
    1) Rub Deep Heat (available from sports shops or pharmacies) on your arm, leg, head, chest
    2) Rub Deep Heat all over your cock and balls.

Compare and contrast the sensations you get.

    Again with the bad comparisons.

Seen as Deep Heat is for aching muscles and your penis or balls is probably the only place on your body you can spray that doesn't contain any muscles I dont find that surprising.

Besides, I'm not saying that your cock is not sensitive. I'm saying that you could easiliy use the same force that you would use to put it over your arm as you would to put it on your cock.

 Your own comparisons are just as bad. Despite several posts in this thread where guys report finding standard condoms too tight for their penes, you persist with this "condoms can be blown up like a balloon and pulled over your head" comparisons. Which are frankly ridiculous.

Yes, not to mention there's an 80% chance of the vagina tearing while giving birth.

If you find that durex featherlite or elite (the regular ones a lot of guys use) try durex comfort. They're slightly bigger and available in most chemists in a purple packaging. I think that should solve the problem as you described it.
