Feel Like Puking After Cardio

Its something we all have probably experienced at one time or another, almost chucked up in the shower this evening but barely held it in, from past experience know will feel fine in a few hours.

Does anyone know what the reason for this response is, can understand fatigue and pain which makes sense, but wanting to get sick, cant understand that, maybe dehydration or something, anyone care to shed some light on this ?

    Overdone it perhaps?

Take it a little easier until you get fitter.

i've felt like that before, but i've always felt like it as soon as i had finished, it seems strange that you felt like that in the shower.. How long between when you finished and when you were in the shower?

If I ever got it it would be during the run or just when I stopped not as late as in the shower, I think the cardio is unrelated.
Used to see a fair few upchucks at the first training back after Xmas every year.

aer you warming down properly? Shower too hot to cold? Eating before exercising? Drinking a nasty sports drink during? Over/Not Hydrating?

Are you doing a full cool down before finishing your cardio? Ideally, you need 3-5 minutes at a walking pace for your heartbeat to return to normal.

Are you eating just before cardio? Running on a full stomach wouldn't be the best....

[Edit - same questions as Squirrel!] :)

I agree with all of the above - pushing too hard too soon and need to build up your fitness if you have not been doing some for a while, heavy food within 1-2 hours of training and no cooling down

Personally only ever got it from doing high intensity 300m sprint repeats in 41-44secs with 2min recovery - complete puking session!!

Thanks all, the shower room was very hot , i think this is what might have triggered it off, perhaps i didnt warm down enough either, will keep in mind for the future.

Doesn't the amount of lactic acids in the body trigger this?

afaik Lactic Acid is only linked with vomiting in cases of extremely high levels of Lactic Acid associated with serious illnesses such as HIV rather than from simple physical extertion.

****, so Longfield is HIV+? Bad news man... ;)

What other serious illnesses can cause this? In football training you sometimes see lads puking all over the place. Is there another reason for this? Diet or summit?

I definately have no serious illness currently (that i know of!!), reckon its probably something to do with proper warmdown as suggested above or maybe just overdoing it in a body that is far from fit..yet, was curious as to the reason for the body wanting to puke as it seems a counter productive thing to do.

Maybe its a throw back to the days when we were being chased by predators?
    As in :

"Dont eat me Mr Predator - eat this steaming pile of puke I've made. Pre-chewed for your convienience."
