I have to say i have on many an occasion frequented "Mulligans" in Poolbeg Street, and i find it to be a great pub, good atmosphere, and always has a buzz about it.

Porterhouse. proper beer, not the usual macrobrew crap. love seeing tourists in there looking for "Guy-ness" (Guinness) and buweiser only to be told dead pan "No"

..Not to mention the best pint of Guinness for miles!

As always, The Front Lounge gets my vote. Cool laid back atmosphere, excellent tunes, late opening, Bulmers on tap.. and it's just up the road from Isoldes Tower :D

different pubs for different nights/crowd/athmosphere etc...

So many bars, so if your just focusing on city centre:
The Duke for a quiet chat with mates (and they serve Horgardden....mmmm!).
Sinnotts is great for sports - big screens and near Grafton Street for BKing for half time!
Porterhouse is great for live music and craic... and more special beer!
Flannerys always good for a good "messy" night out...
Dame Lane good for when you feel trenry... and then decide "fook that... lets go to Flannerys!"

Been there several times and the Guinness is great but last time I was there I was seriously tempted to lock the doors and burn it down on the way out to take all the ugly genes out of the gene pool. it was absolutely horrible.

I'd probably agree - its a great pub, with great drink and a great atmosphere.

For a great pint of Guinness - Sandymount House.

Aye The Duke is great for a chat and some soft pints, and yeah Hoegaarden is superb. Pity you have to ask for a slice of lemon in it though, they don't serve it up by default.
Lots of places have Hoegaarden draught by the way - Mar mizu or whatever you call itin the powerscourt centre, Toast in rathmines - thats just 2 I can think of off hand....

they also server hogarden in the Front Lounge... not such a good pub! but ok for a quiet chat!

I have a sizpack of proper glasses I brought back from Holland when I moved home and one I "borrowed" from a certain pub which serves Hoegaarden in Dublin. Great yokes. Also shipped home 2x crates of it as well. didn't last long :(

I love ANY belgian beer - esp Duvel, Hoegaarden, Delerium Tremens, Judas, Kwak..... hence my love of the porter house.

I have planned to stop into my local Offy on the way home and pick up a few bottles of the stuff... it's expensive, but damnit... its worth it!
Big plate of Spag Bol, and a few bottles to wash it down with Liverpool Vs Juve on Telly....... sweet!
I "borrowed" a glass when I was over in Brussels last year... (and got some in a gift pack).
Must go back soon. Its like heaven!

What type of prices are you boys paying for Hoegaarden?
I'm paying EUR 5.00 a pint of the stuff in the Beacon court HOTEL in Sandyford,
while I pay EUR 5.35 for a pint of the stuff in the Harbourmaster in the IFSC!

yeah, it's €5 in the Duke.... 5.35 is a damn rip off though.
Typical Harbourmaster... at least the chicken wings redeem them!

Whats the bar in the Beacon Hotel like? I live pretty close by...
(and it serves my fav beer! how didnt I know?!?)

Voodoo lounge structure and lighting is excellent, little beer garden too. Not to mention the pizza, Doran's same story. Music not as good in both anymore though.

TP Smiths on abbey st. have amazing club sandwiches and lots of other lovely food.

Doyles a fun night out. Always a bito madness in Isoldes.

You can buy it on realbeers.ie, got myself a few boxes for the match! :D
    Prompt and friendly service too

BTW O'Neills on Suffolk St sell it as well

Hogans, Dakota, Porterhouse, Doyles, Toast(Rathmines), Kehoes, Market Bar.

    All of these are good.

Ginger Man near the back of trinity is my fave. A nicely-furbished cosy place that sells a pint of Writers Block ale at 2.80

it's only a new bar, so as you'd expect, very classy decor!
I love the seats, it's like sitting on your sittingroom sofa in a pub! Music is great, not too loud so you can still speak to your friends without having to shout and covering them in phlem in the process unlike Messr Maguires.

Messr Maguires last saturday charged me only Euro 2.60 for a mixer bottle of soda water and a further Euro 1.70 for a "dash" of lime! Bless the poor publicans, they are strugglin to make ends meet! how do they even manage to make a profit? The theivin sons of bi**hes!

It is mostly impossible to find a good pint of Guinness. I mean a good, full, tasty pint with a thick creamy head. Apart from old mens pubs.

    Any suggestions?

Favourite is the Stags Head. The current owner is selling it by auction in May. It will probably close down for a while- here is hoping when it reopens it has not changed too much.

Samsara on Dawson Street....oh Good God the pretty boys!! :D

Sin, Hogans, Market Bar, Dakota, Sosume (RIP...whatever it's called now...something about a Dragon!)

And if I'm in a culchie mood, Doyles.

I was in The Barge on sat nite and the Guinness there was not too bad at all....
Long stone used serve nice guinness too, not been there for a while though.
Kennedys as well when I was in college. Try and avoid any of the super pubs that have a guinness 3/4 poured ready and waiting for you so that when you order they just top up one of them for you and you'll generally be doing well. Had a nasty guinness experience in OReillys under Tara Street Dart a few years back - a whole load of us felt really ropey the next morning and we were all drinking Guinness, and no more than usual.... must've been dirty lines or something!

Heh you're getting old too i see :) When we start talking about how nice the seats are and how quiet the music is, we're well on the way to the top of the hill. Next thing it'll be dinner parties with brandy and cigars and slippers and cardigans :)
Must go check it out some lunchtime, cos I work nearby too....

    Most efficient staff EVER.

Efficient staff eh?? Sounds deadly....

If you are a rocker then you have to go with Bruxelles off Grafton Street. For novelty factor - the Dawson Lounge (smallest pub in Dublin) on Dawson street is great craic for a pint of two. Was in the Q bar at the weekend, great women... drool drool... **** beer though and it cost 5.10 for a heineken.

The Gaiety is great for a late gargle too. Expensive entrance price, keeps out the freeloading students and wasters! :p

Market bar is crap, but not bad food. The cacophony of voices is maddening, and the place is a warehouse that lacks soul and character. ****e. I'm also surprised that people have mentioned Dakota, another soulless yuppie/poser stronghold, about as much fun as root canal surgery....

Cafe En Seine is pretty **** too, drink is terrible and the place is chock full of ****. Women are very nice, but probably inaccessible unless your daddy is a rich man and you drive a sports car.

I've heard Flannery's is easy enough to score women in.
