I don't care who is dying, you still shouldn't drive in the last nail until you are completly sure.

Can someone lock this silly thread out of respect for a dying man.

nah that's when u get to see the Papal conclave, could be up to a month away. All the cardinals are locked in until they pick a new one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Jayzuz it's like a running commentary this thing.

"And the pope just inhaled.... we're waiting now... and.. YES! EXHALE!! is that a blink? The Cardinals dismisses it... oh! wait! he's gone to sleep! could be any minute now folks!!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

TV3 must feel so stupid now. The Vatican just dismissed Italian media reports that the pope is dead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Whether he is or not , still unpleasant to be watching this. Curse of 24 hour instant news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

I wonder who will snap up the movie rights for his life story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Probably Time Life to go with all the Bible stuff

conclave has to be 15 days after the pope's private secretary confirms death

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

It's just so typical eh! They hear a rumour and then do a special broadcast on something that wasn't even confirmed. At least Sky News are giving proper updates on his condition, and they did not say that he had passed away.

I wonder what TV3's next bulletin will be like. Will they say "oh sorry, he's actually not dead now" .... doubtful, tbh.

The list of probable successors of the current pope was listed in the paper recently. And I think the youngest candidate was either in his late 50s or early 60s (can't remember).

It's just typical Catholic church, trying to keep the old fashioned views in the church. Maybe if they put in a younger pope, he'd last longer, and he would probably be a bit more "hip" (if it's possible for a pope to be hip, that is!) - but ye know what I mean  What's the point in putting in a much older pope who will die sooner? Oh it baffles me

Not that I care too much, coz I ain't bothered with organised religion anyway.

Life being as it is I have a feeling that Paddy Power will have a book on it

the new pope has to be within a certain age range before he can be considered. Can't remember the range, something like 60-70.

JP2 was an unexpected Pope at the time. They went through a few candidates before they picked him. Think they need a 2/3 majority for a new Pope. Suggestions are that the next one could be South American or African, which can only be good.

They cant put in a young pope, to be eligible for election the cardinal has to be between 65 and 80 years of age

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 605 ✭✭✭Crania

They should have a young pope. Maybe he might last for a long time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 750 ✭✭✭Bungalow Bill

I hope he dies peacefully, he was a great man of humble beginnings and deserves only respect.

JP2 was only 59. Pope is "in theory" supposed to retire at 80. Believe the age group is 55-65 in practice, although they tend not to go for upper end. JP1 was 60ish as well .

would you rather have a pope who lasts a few years longer or do a better job. an older person would have more life experience and a younger person might be corrupted by the power.

It's possible he could be dead. Maybe they're just not giving out the news yet.

My mother said the last pope ever was to be a black pope- as predicted by Nostradamus.

That is suppposed to tie in with St. Malachy's prediction and the "fact" that there is only one space left in the Papal crypt.

TV3 might say next report: Contrary to media reports it has come out that the pope is alive.

Theres BS going around about a machine, but the vatican saying they dont have one

That prediction (if you believe in that sort of stuff) relates to the possible election of the superior general of the Jesuits to the pontificate. The superior general is often referred to as the "Black Pope".

At the present moment Father Peter-Hans Kolvenbach is the superior general.

    http://www.companysj.com/v203/kolvenbach.jpg

    Nostradamus is hokum anyway.

Kolvenbach is a real magnet for conspiracy theorists. Here's a sample...

Martin: Let’s discuss this position of "General" and, in addition, who is this person, Count Hans Kolvenbach? Who does he serve? What are his origins? Where does he hail from?

Phelps: The present General is a Dutchman, his nationality is Dutch.

Martin: Where is he? Physically, where is he?

Phelps: He resides in Rome, at the headquarters of the Jesuits, called the Church of Jesu. So, the Jesuit General resides in Rome at, what I just called, the Jesuit headquarters.

Martin: The Church of Jesu, is that near the Vatican?

Phelps: It’s not far from the Vatican, right. It’s in the same general area. It’s headquarters of the Knights of Malta.

Martin: Is it part of Vatican City, proper?

Phelps: Right, I believe, yes it is.

Martin: Where does Satan fit into this picture, and what is the ultimate goal of the Jesuits, the so-called Society of Jesus?

Phelps: The Jesuit General, and the other high Jesuit Generals, they are sorcerers. They are Luciferians, and they worship what they would call Lucifer. They do not believe in Satan. They believe in Lucifer.

Now, according to Alberto Rivera, he was invited—because he was a top Jesuit at the time in the late ’60s—he was invited to a "Black Mass" in Spain where there were quite a few top Jesuit Generals present. And he called it a "Black Mass". Well, when you’re involved in a "Black Mass", you’re involved in the worship of Lucifer, all dressed in their black capes and so on.

Martin: I’m fascinated by Count Hans Kolvenbach because nobody in the world knows who this person is. I’ve never heard the name.

    TV3....what a bunch of ****.
It's tabloid news at it's worst IMO...anyone wih some semblance of inteligence would make sure to double check sources before airing bullsh|t like this.

I went straight away to several news sites and saw nothing...imagine the people these bolloxes have upset, elderly people that watch corrie and haven't net access or even teletext in some cases.

Yeah, great news team...that's why they have such an outstanding teletext news service too
These idiots deserve a serious slap on the wrist...mistake or not.

In fairness to TV3 they said that Italian media said he was dead, they added that it was still unconfirmed.

No, that was someone trying to stir up a little extra fear by taking passages from other quatraines and mixing them together in a way that would look like a canon one.

And lets not forget that he has been wrong more times than right...
