Anyone know where i can get info on stuff like records for the olympic lifts - powerclean, snatch etc, and the bench, squat and deadlifts?
Especially for irish athletes and u23's (if there is such a category.)
What would be considered a good lift for an 80kg 21 year old. What weight wins at competitions? Are there any competitions? What about teams and trainers?
    Thanks.
    Google turns up crap!

There is some info on bench, squat, Dlift at http://www.idfpa.plus.com/findex.htm
Irish drug free power lifting assoc.

For the olympic lifts google surely will turn up the records. Usually puts lifts and weight classes well into perspective.

As for IDFPA, perhaps the national records are accurate, I'm really not sure. Some fairly impressive lifts by the likes of John Feehan and some surprisingly low weights in my view. I think like many smaller sports however, it suffers from a lack of critical mass in competitions, and whilst there may be a lot of good amateur lifters around the country, many simply don't know or don't care about amateur competition.

For example, if a 160kg bench won a 110kg class, I know a couple of people myself included who could have easily outdone that on current form and do 180kg/190kg in training. Thus I would advise caution before congratulating yourself on form!

By implication of the name, I wonder if we have a drug abuse association, their lifts may provide better targets - especially for those of us who are natural.

    Thanks jak.
For anyone interested i found thse:

Good links. Im exactly halfway towards a world record in my weight class. Horray!!

Oh ya and if a 160kg lift won in a 110kg class then im sure a lot of props would fancy their chances. My first time flat benching in 2.5yrs was last night and i did 3@110kg and im only 83kg. I reckon if i work at it a little i can get a 1 rep max around 130kg @ 80kg. All great until i read that a 14year old in usa can bench 300lbs :-((

Check out this table, may give a rough idea of what you should aim for in the various lifts. The table was produced by a prominent poster on the misc.fitness.weights newsgroup

Do they do full depth squats (rather than 3/4s ones) in competitions?

Yes. And they are strict as hell, I was in the idfpa!

It's all well and good to say you bench x kg, but doing it with a one second pause on the day is another thing... Watch out for Dave Fitx - +250kg raw bench drug free and over 300kg with a single ply shirt.

Oh, and the "drug abuse" federation would be the IPF ;) (actually not too much difference in the upper echelons)
