Jackie Skelly rip off

I was a member of Jackie Skelly in park west for eight months. I was just paying by a direct debit by the month. I decided to leave and join the Carlisle after six months but was informed i had to give two months notice which i did and everything was fine. Until i got a letter from a debt collecting agency explaining i owe the gym two months payment because i did not give notice. So i explained that i gave notice and eveything was fine for a week until i got a phone call explaing that i signed a contract to stay with Jackie Skelly fitness for a year so i owe them 4 months payment now. I have requested to see the contract i signed and if my signature is on it then im gonna have to pay it or there bringing me to court. When joining the gym i may have signed the contract but i tought i was gonna be in it for more than a year, But you lean from your mistakes. I think there losing so many customers to the carlisle, there trying to rob people of a few scabby euro. So i think this letter Should explain why its not a good idea to join Jackie Skellys.

Get some free legal advice and see what they have to say. I have worked in gyms for years and they will (most likely) NOT do anything about it!!

Girl who sits beside me just sent in a letter doing exactly the same as you - giving them 2 months notice - she's even joining Carlisle too =)

Carlisle is a much better gym.

Will let you know if she hears anything back from a debt collecting agency.

be very careful how you proceed with debt collection agencies you dont want to get a bad credit rating marked against your name in the central credit bureau or whatever its called.
    get legal advise.
    document everything
contact jackie smellys and get a copy of the contract read the small print.

    SHAME ON YOU JACKIE SKELLY'S

(Goddamn gym migrants will clog up my carlisle -no parking and queues for bloody everything :( )

This is not a rip off - u signed the contract and therefore are obliged by it.

The mods should delete this as slander against an entity without sufficient evidence is illegal.

I think i will inform Jackie Skelly of this !

Considering i was asked for my two weeks notice to be payed a long time after i left. When they found out i payed it they backtracked and asked for the rest of the year to be sent out to them. I wonder if i had of payed them the two monts notice they were looking for would they of asked for the rest of the year's money aswell. But Jackie Skelly did not even ask me for the money, They just handed it straight over to the debt collecting agency.Maybe if i got a nice request from Jackie Skelly instead of the bullying of the debt collecting agency then i might of payed.I might not of specified this in my earlyer post , Sorry.

That girl I was telling you about sent them a letter saying that she was giving 2 months notice and they were fince about it - no hassle from them.

    Couple of questions.

Did you give them 2 months notice by phone or by letter?

If you did it by phone you're a silly man, you should always make a written record of things like that.

And the most important question is, when you joined did you sign up for a year? If you did you don't have an argument and I fail to see what you're problem is.

    B.

I sent in the same letter three times.

Did I sign up for a year???
I cant remember, That is why i have asked to see the contract they say i have signed.

If i did sign the contract then i have to pay.But by paying the direct debit by the month i didnt realise you have to sign up for a year.If i knew that then i would of payed for the year and it would of ran out cheaper. But you learn from your mistakes

heya! i'm in the process of leaving jackie skellys(in parkwest).

first of all you did sign a contract saying you would be with them for a year(Sorry!)...well i know i did and everyone else that joined with me in work had to do the same.

secondly a few of the people I work with have left jackie skellys and did not pay the two months notice....they just cancelled the DD.

thirdly js are full of sh*t. I joined months before the place even opened and have been a member there for however many years that is(2...maybe 3).
when I joined they said that once you had been a member for a year you could leave without paying the two months notice. I asked at the desk and the girl said that I did have to give two months notice. I am not giving two months notice....merely cancelling the DD. Good luck!! :)
