IBB looking for testers for 2Mb product

IBB is looking for 5 to 10 users of their existing 1Mb Breeze product to test their new 2Mb entry level broadband service.

They will upgrade the existing 1Mbps symetrical service to a 2Mbps symetrical service.

The test is simply to test the upgraded transmission network and backhaul capacity and see whether there are any glitches before releasing the product into the market.

Testers will be subject to occassional adjustments as the service is tweaked, and will be required to meet with the IBB marketing team to discuss their perceptions of the service and their experience.

Any interested parties can PM me and I will get back to the selected ones. Let me know the base station you are on as it would be preferable to have one or two people per base station.

DO NOT post your personal details on the Board or to me. Selected candidates will be given an e-mail address to send their account number and base station to only. No personal details.

Your MRTG graphs show throughput of a full meg for an hour a short while back, but there is an anomaly in the radio vs ethernet stats. Force your ethernet card settings manually down to 10Mb half-duplex and see if that makes a difference? Some ethernet cards do not always adapt to the radio speeds when set to Auto.

Good to see that IBB are responding with upgraded speeds. Excellent in fact.

I just hope they start doing 2mb for €50 and reduce the price of 1mb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

they will probably have a 1mb entry and 2mb service ! IBB when its right is a far better product than DSL !!! Symetrical !! The Eircom and Smart thread are complaining about the upoloads for the new 2mb being 128kps speed !! 2mb up is fantastic............. hopefully they have the bandwidth in the basestations to cater for the increase !!!

Well I wont go into it all here again as its not the thread for it ( The WiseMan has been looking into it for me) but it was fine when first installed and nothing as changed on my machine or the young lads so I dont see how changing it now will solve it.

    PM'ed.

As always, the presence on boards is appreciated (but not everyone says that :p).

Hope everything works out for ye, and we have a seamless transfer to the faster speeds, and no high sites exploding under the additional bandwidth pressure :p

Its funny when i think back that i've been a customer for nearly 2 years now. Been through one or two very rough patches with the service, and a few more middling ones. Lets hope it keeps going smoothly.

    PM Sent..

As I mentioned in the PM, am moving address soon. I really hope I do not suffer some of the experiences others have had on this forum when dealing with your customer services.

I am actually delighted with the 1mb service for the past 6 months and this is the reason I am willing to pay 150 euro to move it as oppossed to just ending the agreement and getting DSL in the new place with Eircom's or IOL's increased speed services.

Can you do anything to make sure I get a call to move my equipment while I actually have access to the current address? I called late last week but I have no idea how long it takes ye guys to schedule something like this. Please say its nothing like getting a new install..

Let me see... when IBB updated me to the VL Gear way back then... they didn't set me to 1Mbps straight away... I was running 2 to 3 Mbps on FTP downloads and 10Mbps on HTTP !!! That was going on for 3 days... I can tell you that I was very happy and didn't see any problem at the time.

Sssh, don't tell them that :p We need to test it properly...over a long period of time. And hopefully during that time our monthly bill will be waived :p

2meg up and down, low ratio...

now that is a product I want...

gotta be hot stuff as well with everyone complaining about lack of upload.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 46 OldTitan

Thanks to all the IBB clients on the Boards who have responded. We have appointed the testers and no more are required.

The first batch of 7 testers will have their speeds increased today and will receive an e-mail advising them so.

IBB's marketing department will be in touch with them next week.

Enjoy the 2Mb up and down this week-end!

    Cheers

i just turned off my computer about 10min before he pm. Sht anyway would like 2mb now :) hopefully ya he will check them tomorrow. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

    I'm one of the lucky 7s! :D

Downloading at 245Kbs also. Went on a few "test your connection" website and up and down were confirmed at just below 2Mb (which made me a little moist...) ;)

I rang IBB for an unrelated problem and they told me I was on a 16:1 contention instead of my usual 8:1 though... :( Is this normal?

So far so good I must say! My new 250Gb external HDD will be full by next Tuesday I think! :p

OldTitan: thank you for thinking about us, boards.ie members, and thank you for selecting me! :D
Now you see that "2" in front of th "MB"? Change that to a "4" just to see if... lol :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Legion

Right, well I wasn't expecting to get anywhere near a test on the 2mb but I did say to OldTitan if he thought my conn was up to it i would give it a go..anyways looks like I've been upped in speed but take a look at this speed test result taking from http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

    Downstream 1851 Kbps (231.4 KB/sec) 1999 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 27 Kbps (3.4 KB/sec) 29 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Notice the Upstream speed ??? yeah thats where my problem lies with my connection.I dont know why, plenty of people bar me have been over here looking at it and there stumped as to why this should be so low, everything has been tried to sort it on my end download speeds are rock solid from ftp http etc but very patchy web access ,before the bad few weeks before the upgrade on the Ballymun mast upload was fine. Since the upgrade..well you can see where I'm at now. btw that upload speed your looking at is more or less the same all the time.

    D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,814 ✭✭✭Drapper

    Direction

    Actual Speed

    True Speed (estimated)
    Downstream 2431 Kbps (303.9 KB/sec) 2625 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 3160 Kbps (395.0 KB/sec) 3412 Kbps (inc. overheads)

    Wooooww

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

Hard luck Legion, that upload is very poor indeed... Did you try another PC to see if the upload remains the same? If you know someone with a laptop for example have a go at that same test to see if upload remains this slow. Are you using a router? Could your firewall be the cause of this problem?

Drapper, I hate you. :p I'm going to try tonight and compare with your results. I don't think I'll get as high as that though...

around 1.2 meg with bursts of up to 176 meg

i rang up about it and she said i was getting the full meg about a hour before. she said its due to my connection ratio. But i wouldnt of thought many people would be on now. I have always maxed out downloading winzip from winzip own server. i downloading at 108kps max.

Legion, that inidcates that you are getting a strong signal from the base station, but your signal to the base station is experiencing a weaker signal with interference. It can happen with a reflected signal. It may mean the guys need to re-pan the antenna. I will go through your records and will check with the installation team what signals they got when you were installed. I've asked the guys meanwhile to double check the settings on your radio.

GrabIt was going slower than usual last night but that could be due to a lot of traffic on the usenetservers so I'm not worried.

I can't remember what I was getting last night... I think it was just just under 2000 Kbps Downstream and around 1000-1500 Kbps Upstream.

I'll try it again this evening and post the results on this thread.

BTW, anybody on the Guinness Transmitter here? I'd like to know if I'm the only one getting ping jumps every 15 to 20 seconds... Thanks! ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 46 OldTitan

Guinness is quiet at the moment. Not much traffic on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

Glad to hear it, hope it stays that way! ;)

But my ping is erratic. As I said, every 15 to 20 seconds the ping jumps up for a second or two. If I ping www.boards.ie (or any other website for that matter, even the Guinness transmitter!) I'll get 5 to 8ms and then, it will jump up as high as 1000+ms (even lose the packet sometimes) but only for a second or two. Then it will go back to 5/8ms... It's quite odd as it is very regular.

I sent 2 ping tests by e-mail yesterday evening if you want to have a look at them... It's beyond me :(

Try powering down the POE and back up again to reset the radio to eliminate any buffer glitches in the radio? I am not in the office today and not logged in to the system, and will be going out shortly. Will check back later and if it is still there will follow up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

I still havn't been bumped up to 2 meg... any chance this could get done before you vanish for the weekend? Pretty please :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

    Hi OldTitan,

I often try unplugging the radio to reset it... Sometimes it makes a difference but for the past 4 days now, it has not resolved the situation.
Furthermore, the two IBB techs I spoke to yesterday and the day before both tried resetting my radio remotely also... Doing this has not resolved the problem either.

I hope your engineers will be able to resolve this frustrating small glitch on Tuesday! :)
