Mesa-Boogie Nomad 45 Head, killer short box and a top pick for rock guitarist who want more than one tone at the touch of touch of the floorboard. Boogie is famous for versatility and features and the Nomad 45 is no exception. Features: 45 Watts, Dyna-Watt Power – all tube with a quartet of EL84’s and 5 2AX7’s, 3 Fully Independent Channels w/6 Modes (Channel 1=Clean or Pushed, Channel 2=Vintage or Modern Gain, Channel 3=Modern or Vintage Gain), Independent Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, Reverb and Master Controls per Channel, Spring Reverb, Output Level Control (over all channels), Solo Level Control, Normal/Extreme Power Voicing Switch, Parallel FX Loop w/Mix Control, Recording/Headphone Out, Silent Record Mute Switch, Slave Out, 5 Button Footswitch (Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 3, Reverb & Solo). Super clean shape with cover and floorboard. My last Nomad went to the UK where locally they cost $3K but my customer landed mine for 1/3 of the new cost. Regardless of who buys this, you’re going to have a killer amp at a killer price, $750.

Now, It Wasn't Me PM'd me about this recently, but I only glanced at it, because I'm perfectly happy with the combo. I actually took the time to look at it properly now, and the optimal part of the quote is:
My last Nomad went to the UK where locally they cost $3K but my customer landed mine for 1/3 of the new cost.

The UK? The ****ing United Kingdom?! It went to the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND you damned yank! You'd think coming from a country that declared independance from the Crown, they might understand the difference.

A notion occurs. Didn't Chris have a Nomad head for sale at the same time as you bought your combo? And isn't it possible that he sold the head to someone in England?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Yes, AFAIK the other head was on hold when karl hungus was getting his.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The other Nomad is still on hold, and he's definetly refering to me, because I told him how much musician were asking for one here.

Naw, no further wrath is due, I just needed a rant because nobody's got back to me about my damned Stealth. :(

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

That's cos no one wants you to have it :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, the fates conspiring against me to deny me the guitar of my dreams is one notion, but I think it's more likely that BC Rich just aren't taking any new orders untill the custom shop site is up and running again. Of course, I did say that I wouldn't be ordering untill March, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It's a bit dumb for a guitar shop to stop taking orders just cos they're website is down...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, I was told by the site admin that they were still taking orders, and to order away, but the forums are down too, so I can't ask 'em there now, but last email I got from the music zoo was that they're still waiting for a reply from BC Rich themselves, so god knows what's up there?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

That would not inspire confidence in me if I was about to place an order with them tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Ah, it seems like the whole site is getting an overhaul, and the team of monkeys could just be too distracted to answer emails. Besides, I have to order through a dealer anyway, so I think I might ask guitar asylum again once the BC Rich site is back to 100%.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

"It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times"

I wouldn't have confidence in Guitar Asylum if they have to rely on the BC Rich site either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Well, I've still full confidence in BC Rich, and it could easily have been a problem on The Music Zoo's part.
I want my Stealth, so something like this is hardly going to put me off.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Ah, just go and buy yourself a nice Ibanez Korn signature seven string :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

    ...

I'm going to stab you in the eyes.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not your cup of tea? Not pointy enough? :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Not a custom built guitar made to my exact specs enough, tbh!

I wouldn't mind an Ibanez Universe, but for that kinda money, custom all the way!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

The more I think about it, the more I'd like a 7 string Leviathan. Damn expensive but it's a unique looking guitar and by all accounts, Jeremy is an incredibly talented man. I'd prefer if it wasn't bolt on though. I despise all heels although he does use carved Ibanez style heels which aren't too bad.

Yeah, the fact that they're bolt-ons is kinda off-putting. It's still no Stealth, but indeed it would be cool. Custom specs. :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Aye. I'd be quite happy with a KH-2 neckthrough tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

    No extended range though?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Na, I can live without extended range if I have a great 6 string. Put that into a great amp like a Herbert and I'd be happy enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Pah, that's no fun if you want to jam out to some Morbid Angel!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It's me. When would I ever want to jam on some Morbid Angel? More likely to jam on some Britney Spears :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Ok, well then what if you wanted to jam with some Dream Theater that requires the extra low end?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    I'd use my 7 string...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

    Well... duh...

But a Harley Benton is hardly on the same level as a Universe or Leviathan now is it?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Meh. Not yet :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yes, well I've no 7 strings lying about, so that's another reason I want my Stealth in a hurry.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Meh, 7 strings are fun for somethings but they just get boring. And they're a bitch to get a tone for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I'm sure I'll manage to get a good tone out of it from my Nomad. ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Yeah yeah. Just learn to play now :p

    Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity...

Hmmm, anyone ever think about building their own amp?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Yeah I'll build an amp, WITH YOUR FACE!

/me goes back to shine like exercises. I DIDN'T SH*T THE BATH!

I could imagine building my own speaker cabinet, but a whole amp itself? No.

Just cos you can't play tapped harmonics :p

TBH, there's not all that much in a single or dual channel tube amp. It's dangerous enough to build and not much cheaper but still, good fun...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'd like to but I wouldn't trust myself to not wreck it. How dangerous, and in what sense? I want to build my own guitar, but that's a project for a long way away.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

High voltages. And big capacitors full of high voltages.

I'm pricing the strat that I mentioned in the "Speechless" thread...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

What's it running like? I was wondering whether you meant dangerous for the builder or the amp. I'd rather I blew up than the nice big expensive tube amp to be honest.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    Dangerous for the builder.

Well, the two piece swamp ash body is $65, ebony board is about $40, neck wood about $40, bridge and pickups about $400, misc hardware about $40, finishing supplies probably about €50. That's without including templates or tools.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Overall for a really nice custom guitar that's not a whole lot, and the strat you were thinking of sounds quite swish. :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Damn right it sounds swish! The less than a MIA strat, you have a custom made instrument that looks better than any Fender I've ever seen :p

Import tax and duty will add 25.5% to the combined cost of your axe and the shipping cost. I don't know what the shipping cost will be. Guess USD 100?
If you are serious about buying from Chrisguitars I advise you to phone him immediately. In my experience much of the good stuff on his site is already sold - he is not diligent about updating the "Sold/on-hold" part of his site. Emailing him is a waste of time.
Obviously he is taking some steps to correct this recently judging by what he says on his site but who knows?
