    As mentioned in this post there's a cross trainer going for €180 in LIDL next week ("Perfectum Elipticum") - would this be worth it or is it likely to just be muck?

    Can't really complain about Lidl's stuff. It may be cheap, but it's not cheap quality tbh. And €180 isn't "cheap" (for a cross-trainer, yes, but it's still a good bit of money). They also have a very good customer returns/complaints procedure too, I hear.

    Be wary of cheap cross trainers. My neighbour got an expensive one, and tried to sell me his old one. I tried it out, and even at its highest level, it didn't offer much resistance at all.

    If you can try it out on the day, then do....

    Only thing I'd be mindful of is will you use it? I can't do cardio at home, I've no motivation. Home is where I relax and study, gym is where I get my phsique where I want it. If you get it, make sure it has its own room and you've a tv there or something. The monotony of those things in a house is bad enough but having it blocking up a room just gets annoying.

    I was just about to make a post for advice on one of these machines. was looking in the argos catologue for something in the €200 region for some sort of exercise device like a Thredmill or cycle machine for at home. I want something that i can use and watch telly at the same time otherwise i get board and keep puting it off . would this machine do the job or would anybody recommend another machine

    DON'T BUY FROM ARGOS. I bought a bike AND a cross trainer from them and had to return both. I actually got two of the cross trainers but they were both faulty. They don't offer any repair service so even if its just a small fault, you have to send the whole thing back. waste of time (assembling it). Imho, you're better to go with an irish based supplier who can follow up.

    Have an update on the LIDL elliptical cross trainrer - it is a Perfectum Apollo XT1 and is only going on the market throughout Europe on monday through LIDL.

    It's apparently a successor the Apollo 5000 which is meant to be mechanical identical. the manual for that model is here.

    The specs for the XT1 are (in German until I get an accurate translation):
    Perfectum Elliptical Apollo XT1
    (Art. 70763)

    Handpuls

        * Zur Bestimmung des optimalen Trainigsbereiches
        * Handpulsmessung über Handinnenflächen
        * Angenehme Flachsensoren
        * Kein lästiges Ohrpulskabel notwendig
        * Integriertes Empfangsteil für Herzfrequenz-Messung

    Inklusive Trainings-Video

        * Professionelles Cardio- und Ausdauerprogramm für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene

    Zusätzlicher kostenloser Trainigsplan

        * Individuell abgestimmt auf Ihr Trainingsprofil
        * hier abrufbar

        * Inklusive Netzadapter für ständige Trainingsbereitschaft
        * Transportrollen für leichten Standortwechsel des Gerätes

    In Germany it's €199, so at least something is cheaper here for once...
