    DVDShrink (www.dvdshrink.org)

    Amazing program!!

Takes about 15 - 20 minutes to rip.. and about the same amount of time to burn.

You wont beat DVD Shrink, go on download it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭JDxtra

15 mins to rip, around 5 mins to burn. Using DVD Shrink, Nero 6 and an NEC ND3500 DVD burner (seperate DVD reader as well so I don't have to swap CD's after the ripping).

It's 16 speed and can burn a 1 hour DVD in 4 minutes.

    Ah right.

All my DVD+R's are all 4X .. don't wanna burn them too high speed!

You get many coasters at 16x?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Not one so far! It's an excellent burner. I only use Imation blank media, but not sure if that actually helps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

The DVD that you use is very important, crappy batchs of DVDr are easy to come by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭Tony H

have those imitation discs a ricohjpn media code? if they have they are a great disc, where did you get them and how much were they ,

i use dvd shrink , dvd decrypter for the tricky ones , and my ripping takes 20- 25 mins
burning between 6 and 15 min depending on discs on a NEC 3500 may it last forever

DVD Shrink to bits (Great program) !!! Used with Nero,

Analysing can take a while if i choose to do it,

but encoding and burning never take more than 25mins.

    so im laughing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,374 ✭✭✭Gone West

or how about: I dont copy dvd movies.

only because it would take me about 45 mins to rip and 40 mins to burn. (crap hardware)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Anyone ever used DVD x copy platinum? I am using it and it seems great. It only takes about 13 minutes to rip and about 5 or 10 to burn. Note: In this example I am referring to the Lion King I burned...

    Edit: I use a nec 2500a.

    Slightly off topic, but...

I've just come across the first DVD that DVD Shrink couldn't read - Layer Cake. It can read the menus / extras but not the main feature. DVD Decrypter can't read it either. It gives a "failed to read sector" error.

I've tried it in both my DVD drives and I get the same message. The DVD plays fine though in my standalone DVD player.

    Oh well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 995 ✭✭✭sinjin_smythe

Eh does anyone go into the reauthor menu of dvd shrink or do you just burn automatically. If you do reauthor can you just put the movie and not the extras on it ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,573 ✭✭✭Infini

Best combination is DVDdecrypter and Nero Recode. Always makes a good copy for myself.

Similar problem with Resident Evil2, used DVD decrypter but DVD shrink doesn't recognise files

Thats where DVD X Copy platinum comes in handy. Guarantees to copy every single dvd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭deckie27

Is DVD X Copy platinum a real commercial product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 352 ✭✭Egyptian

Where u get those disks? On the net?

Prices for some of the DVD 4x Disks is pathetic, espically in the Book Centre. Never met such an un-organised shop, had DVDs in 4 parts of the shop, same make and speed etc. but different prices lol.

Lidl is the cheapest. €6.99 for a pack of 5 compared to other areas!

heh...1hr to rip, 1 hr to encode, 1 hr to burn...stoopid 2x lappy burner.

    dvd decrypter :: nero6 [recode]

used apollo dvd copy but the compression isn't as good as nero tbh.

been looking for ehh...'working instructions' for x copy platinum ;) so haven't tried it yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,366 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Yeah I was surprised too, threw everything at it, nothing would work. Only one I have ever come across that I can't copy.

www.calibrecomputing.co.uk is one of the best sites for DVD-R's and DVD+r's.
Plus they do free delivery to UK and Ireland!!

They have Orange Bulkpaq 8X Spindles of 25 for less than a tener!!

I tend to stick with 8X as i feel the higher you go the decrease in quality, unless youve got a fairly good burner......i could be wrong thow

just go to google.com and get screenshots and opinions.

http://www.animationmagazine.net/article.php?article_id=2131 - here is one review.

You put the dvd in, press start, then put a blank dvd in. Bingo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭deckie27

    I don't doubt you BUT
when 123 studios started ( back in the day of making VCD's)
they were only using freeware apps available at the time with a "123" guide (GUI) on top of the apps.
    What has changed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭deckie27

Why would you pay for it when there is better free alternatives.

Egyptian - When was the last time you bought from www.calibrecomputing.com When I checked their site, as of the 27/02/04 they had ceased shipping to all international destinations. If they are still doing free shipping to Ireland, they would be handy for small orders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 352 ✭✭Egyptian

    my bad its

    www.calibrecomputing.co.uk

    not '.com', sorry for this.

    (last post has been updated)

I've just tried DVD X Copy Platinum and I was impressed. Put LOTR in my DVD drive, a blank DVD in my DVD writer clicked start and when I came back it had completed. :)

16x speed Verbatims are available on Komplett...

The 8x speed Verbatims are more widely available. Pay no more that €20 for a 25 pack spindle.

Yes, the disc was an odd colour!

As for the movie, it was a bit rubbish to be honest...! But it might be a sign of things to come. The movie was released on Columbia Tristar (Sony Pictures) so it might be worth keeping any eye out for their future releases.

I know Macrovision have developed the 'RipGuard' technology but I didn't expect to see DVD's with this for another few months at least...

Well I did not pay for it. I received x copy platinum as a gift for which i am very happy. :)

What are the better alternatives? Apparently there is nothing better than this. There is no dvd it can not copy and it is ferociously quick.

Nice links lads, cheers. Does DVD Shrink rip DVD's without the hassle of burning them straight away? Iv often wanted to rip DVD's and iv had no blank disks around.. :S

Ill take a look at those sites, Lidl seem the cheapest in my area. Xtra Vision is selling DVD+RW for €13 and DVD+R for €9. Same with Supervalu. Book Centre in waterford cheapest was a tenner on a Special Offer.

    Cheers once again!

Bulkpaq are made in CMC. Look here for views on CMC: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

"Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:" "If the dye is uneven or does not reach to the edge of the disc, it is often bad. CMC is known for bad inner-disc spread (dye thinning)"
