Mock Results

Well we are all frantic in doing our mock exams. I for one had my exams finished a week before the break, soi got two weeks off. Started to get my results back

First was Geography. 70% B1 75 points: I was thrilled and was very proud to get this good a mark, it is a really good sign, some slight mistakes on my writing but if i brush up on me topics ill get an A.

Economics 42% C3 45 points: Sounds kinda lousey, but compared to pass level its a b1, which i find amazing. I think tbh my economics teacher is rubbish, she is constantly going over and over stuff we did last year, alot of stuff cmae up I didnt know, and my class felt the same, a poor result but i can majorly improve on.

My DCU course requires 300 points, so 120 after 2 is great, so only 180 to get in last 4, i hope for the best, cause my girlfriend says she wil lgive me a "special" present if i get over 300.

So post your results when you get em and see if my thread on sharing mock exams helped.

    Maths A1
    Applied Maths A1
    Tech Drawing A1
    Physics B2
    English D1
    French D2

All higher total of 485 points, I'm pretty pleased still I'm gonna have to watch that I don't fail French.... and try and bring English and French up to C's. Hoping to get physics up to an A.

Well done man they are some nice results. A in honours maths. thats the hardest test in the exam to be honest, well done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭*Angel*

Well actually I find Maths kinda easy, but I'm terrible at languages probably cos I couldn't be bothered with learning the stuff. Good luck with the rest of your results!

Don't have everything yet but I'm pretty happy with what I've got so far:

English (H) - 71% - B3 (this was what I was really disappointed with coz I was quite proud of my paper. I've officially given up on English to focus on my other subjects now...)
    Maths (H) - 89% - A2
Biology (H) - I don't know my exact grade because there was a massive problem with the standard of correction and they all had to be sent back. My teacher said she looked through it and its an A1 though.
    Chemistry (H) - 92% - A1 (Almost DIED today when I saw this, couldn't believe my luck)
German (H) - 88% - A2 (Really gotta work on my oral, its what brought me down)

I think I can bring those up to A1s with enough work and get my course, provided I ignore English for a while. Need 580 though so fingers crossed for me!

Well done Caoimhe! Those are brilliant results for the mocks, I'd say you'll almost definitely gets your A1s in Maths and German in the Leaving Cert. What course are you going for that you need 580, Medicine or something?

They took our school about a week and a half but we started ours on the 20 of Jan so id say they had no others to correct at that time because there is only one school gay enough to start mocks that early.

Dont think ill share my results theyre **** thank god its only the mocks. Well done to everybody that did well but 1 word of warning i have heard peoples stories of good results in the mocks turn into disaster stories for the leavin so be careful dont get too cocky.

Me too, I just can't be bothered with doing any work, I'm so fed up with school now, it's depressing that the next exams coming are the leaving certs. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭Dublinstiofán

sounds like fun best of luck with that

Jesus christ - it just struck me this morning as I was walking into school and talking to a friend...

"This is my last mock! Then the leaving cert but that's a whole...12...weeks...away. Oh God."

So my relief is...kinda tainted I suppose by this. Does anyone else feel the same? I didn't realise it was so close - only around 9/10 weeks of school left - oh yeah/oh no!

I'll post the results here as I get 'em (hah, after all my whining about people sharing history mocks - I'm sure somebody will find great justice in the fact that I screwed up my history mock quite badly. Bah.)

Best of luck to anyone who's still working away though...

EDIT: Well done Caoimhe. Awesome results - just, as you know (you clever person :P!) - complacency is the keyword now. Avoid it like the plague - you're well on your way to 580 with results like that though!

Yep and the orals are in about 6 weeks it's actually really really scary, oh what I'd give to be in 4th yr (or 5th) again!

:) Ye are all so nice! Did my mocks before the midterm, started on 31st of Jan (hence missing Green Day *shakes fist*) but not all of them are back, the correcting takes ages in some (Geography and Higher Irish are taking forever)
Yeah Ailbhe, Medicine in Trinity... Little scared by the hugeness of the points but I'm gonna do my best. Can't bloody concentrate though, midterm made me lazy as hell.

465 overall. Christmas was 495 but only for stuff covered in 6th year.
    German -85%
    English - 72%
    Maths - 58%
    Physics - 70%
    App. Math - 63%
    Accounting - 58%
    Business - 68%
    Irish - 85%
    All higher.
Very dissapointed with Business and Accounting as I have been averaging at least B2's in both all along. Should pick up by June, need 510 to be safe.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 11,362 ✭✭✭✭Scarinae

Punky Bruster, Applied Maths is kind of the Maths part of Physics in a bit more detail. It's not abstract like some sections of normal Maths, it's all directly related to real life. You study things like forces and momentum and circular motion. It's more interesting than normal Maths. Perhaps someone else could explain it better though, you're probably still super confused!

I'm actually going to go insane. Irish and Geography STILL aren't back yet. Irish because the corrector was sick (uh, send it to someone else!!) and Geog because they claim they can't find someone to correct it! I know people who did their Geog exam 3 weeks after me and have their results!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 24,056 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sully

I got more results back just cant edit my post above to amend them..

    English - 56% (C3 - very happy. I find English a tough subject).

German Oral - 60% (Can do better but I hate German!)

    - Sully

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 728 ✭✭✭randomfella

    Geography B1
    German B1
    History B2
    Maths D3
    English B3
    Irish B3
    Business D1

All higher. 455 points prob need 2jump 50points to be sure.

A bit mixed but room for improvement on everything, Especially maths and business, had no study whatsoever done for either.

Well that business grade should be very easy to pull up. I find it one of the most rewarding subjects study wise. As in a few hours work and you can really have a fair whack of the course off by heart. It's an easy B come June.

k, I just have one more to go, so thusfar:

    English: 79%
    Irish: 89.6% ( I won't get rounded up!!!)
    Maths: 94%
    German:93%
    Economics: 93%
    Geography: 93%
    Chemistry: 87%
    Biology:?!

I is :D (except its kinda ironic that the one thing I REALLY want to do well in-English-, ends up being my lowest mark............I don't get it either)

    :)

WOW, well done you! They are absolutely fantastic results. And ignore English, its ridiculously subjective. How on earth did you manage an A1 in geography?

    Hello all,

Everyone else seems to have their Mocks sent away for correction. Is this the norm? Our teachers correct ours, but I think they should switch them around between them. For example, we have 3 English teachers.

WYB, I am still doing my mocks. So far I have done Irish (Páiéar a hAon), History, and English.

Irish went OK - I had a reading comprehension on Ian Paisley. And I did a 450-word essay on "An t-aos óg agus cultúir an alcól".
History was a crash and burn affair. I stuck religiously to 38 mins/question, and so did not finish any question. And I have not yet finished my Research Topic (shoot me now, why don't you), so I attempted a Section E on Michael Davitt... (Oh, and I had the paper a week in advance from a friend. Did I look at it? No.)
English: We have a rubbish teacher who has not prepared us for Paper One at all yet. In all of fifth and sixth year we have not practiced a single essay or reading comprehension. So, as a mark of protest, I did not attempt the Section II of Paper One. I know that I have sacrificed 25% of my exam but it will force the inept old biddy to reevalute her teaching. And even though we only started Comparative Study a week before the Mocks, I did a good one.
Still have Maths, Bio., Geog. and French to go. Wish me luck!

thanks and well done on yours too!! Argh, but I can't ignore English cuz I love it so (really!). And the A1 in geo wasn't that hard cuz I did the fieldwork(can learn off), physical (know it really well by now!), os map (grand) and the regional was divide a country into regions, which was fairly straight forward. Having said all that Geo can be a bit hit and miss (and REALLY fookin long!)

thanks for all your kind comments Sully and randomfella - hope everyone else is pleased with the results! And if not still have another 3 months to improve (loads of time!)

    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 466 ✭✭Caoimhe

the A1 in geo wasn't that hard cuz I did the fieldwork(can learn off)

My fieldwork is over 10 pages long, I couldn't get it written in the exam if I had an extra hour, never mind trying to learn it off. My teacher kept making me add stuff in to make it "perfect" and I've just given up on it and do the photograph now...

Oooo arrr, this is bringing back all the memories.

I'm in second year in college now and just having a look around to see if I can pick up any hints for my hopelessly inept brother, who's about to be the first person in history to get minus points in the Leaving.

Seems I'm not so out of touch though, a lot of the stuff you guys are saying I remember thinking myself... :D

Well, I'm bored and I have nothing to do, soooo if any of ye have any questions about the following subjects I'll do my best to answer them...I lived the life of a hermit during sixth year and studied my arse off so the Leaving should probably be my specialist subject.

    Did I mention I'm bored?

    All at honours level..

    English - A2
    French - A2
    Biology - A1
    Business - A1
    History - A1
    Irish - A1

    At ordinary level...yeah I know, copout :D

    Maths - A2

    Total : 580

Please, pick my brains...might bore me enough to put me to sleep :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 466 ✭✭Caoimhe

Got Irish back today, it was marked SO HARD. The essay was really badly marked. Got 80% without including my oral mark (don't know what it is yet) so hopefully that'll end up as an A2 by the end...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

Just got my first result finally:

    English - 91% - A1.

Thank christ for that... I didn't even finish the poetry question properly but only lost 6 marks...

My main downfall was the essay - 80/100. Tedious, (s)he said - and I'd certainly agree with that.

Here's hoping the rest are this wonderfully surprising :P.

Wow! Kick ass results, people. Well done to all of you.

I'm in fifth year and this time next year I'll be doing my mocks. I started study back in September so I should be ready when the time comes. 5th year is the year to get the work done, in my opinion.

Or as they say in Irish:

    "Tús maith, leath na h-oibre"

Same! It's a pity that it's too late now. Some subjects can't be picked up in 6th year, like French, i've had a bad teacher for two years, no homework so I haven't bothered now I'm so so dead.....
