Training out in the cold :(

I'm currently trying to train for a marathon at the end of April and so I've to try build up my distances etc. Anyway this weekend I'm due to do about a 15 or 16 mile run which would be fine except for the fact that it's so cold outside.

I'm just wondering is there any dangers I should be aware of, any extra stresses or strains likely to be caused or precautions ye can think of (besides "stay indoors you mad idiot")?

    Cheers :)

just the obvious stretch like a bad thing.... and wear layers so you can strip down a bit as you warm up.

Just get out there and do it! Seriously, after the first mile you won't even notice it is cold. Even this time of year I run in T-shirt and shorts; if it is night time, I would also wear a tracksuit / running top, but never anything more.

Remember too much clothing and you are going to get too warm. A hat and gloves can be helpful in terms of making you feel more comfortable.

If you are suffering from a cold or a flu, not running at all is advisable.

Good luck with the training (which marathon are you doing?).

    Madrid :D
Though I keep forgetting to bring my passport number into work to fill out the application form.... Determined not to injure myself this year through poor training and touch wood, it's going good :)

Best of luck - doing the dublin one in october and agree with previous posts, wear layers and breathable clothing that is designed for running in.

just go for shorts and then a few layers on top + hat and gloves. Thats what i go for and half through(2 k) my run im fairly warm - if your worried about keeping warm go for those running tights :) or just plain womans tights - if its good enough for the premireship footballers, its good enough for me and you
