I'm kinda glad they broke up. Wasn't a big fan. But they were better when they were jokey and funny as opposed to their last album where they "matured"

Oh bugger. This week is going progressively downhill...
Their last album I didn't like at first but it really grew on me.

Why does everyone think that blink-182 have split up?

The band have gone on hiatus. Travis is making a new record/touring the Warped Tour with The Transplants, making Meet the Barkers for MTV. The other two probably want a break, it's their call, they do have families. There's even plans for the band to tour South America later this year.

Obviously, that's not stopping them from breaking up further down the line, but nothing's definite now (on the contrary, if they had split up, then their Dublin gig would have been the last ever blink show).

in fairness. they've broken up. "no plans to work together again" is about a blunt as they can put it. With the change in style of music theres obviously some kinda of stress between them, each member pulling different ways.
Green Day are now a rock band. Sum 41 sound like Metallicas and System Of a Downs bastard child and Blink are dead. Pop Punk could never sustain its self at those levels of fame.

    Im sad.

I can live with this. They've done all they can do really. I got to see them once, and I'm happy about that. They've had some brilliant songs, and many of them are among my favourites. Haven't had a bad album imo. They'll continue to be one of my favourite bands.

They'll most likely reflect for the time being and then make a decision, but I dunno, the whole situation is pretty vague as it stands. I'd imagine that they would have announced the split if they were splitting.

Loads of bands went on hiatus and never reformed. Alice In Chains, The Spice Girls.....so many lost treasures!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    That's a shame!

Was a big Blink 182 fan.... not so much of late but their last album was brillant (and a new direction/style also) in my opinion!

Hiatus is indefinitive... would be very suprised if they reformed.

I'm just pissed off I never got to see them live. Bloody parents with their anti-gigs-during-leaving-cert policy...

It was by no means a brilliant concert. Some songs were good. But nothing special.

I'm so happy they split up, it's about time too.....they were getting kinda old for the punk scene I think!!!

Sugarcult were class I thought. And one of my mates caught one of Travis' sticks.

Y'think they might release a "Greatest Hits" album? And maybe a couple of unreleased tracks with it? Possible. Perhaps a DVD too.

Anyway, yeah. Split up. I think it was the right call. They reached their peak.

No doubt about it. Who wouldn't?

But its the atmosphere and the fun of it all. And I had tickets for that gig they were meant to play a couple of years ago and tom went and threw out his back so it doubly sucked that I couldn't go to this one.

I sorta grew up with Blink 182 being one of my favourite bands around the time that Enema Of The State was released. I think it sucks that they're (probably) breaking up.

To be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of their most recent album, not up to much when you compare it Enema, which will remain as one of my favourites.

I'm happy that I went to the concert, not as good as Green Day by any stretch of the imagination, but I would have regretted not going.
It's nice to know that the band went out a good note, well, with me anyway.

Is it me or has the statement been removed from the Blink 182 website? I saw it there earlier but now its seems to be gone. (or else I've gone blind)

Personally I'm not a fan at all and I couldnt care less, just some friends of mine really like them and want to know the story.

    blunt
    adj. blunt·er, blunt·est

    1. Having a dull edge or end; not sharp.
    2. Abrupt and often disconcertingly frank in speech: “Onscreen, John Wayne 3. was a blunt talker and straight shooter” (Time). See Synonyms at gruff.
    4. Slow to understand or perceive; dull.
    5. Lacking in feeling; insensitive

    UPDATE:

Apparently, they're not technically splitting up, but they are going on a break.. the whole indefinitive hiatus statement was taking completely out of context. Think that's why it's now off the website.

Listen to Travis talk about it on US Radio earlier today here (Need Windows Media Player to stream it)

Also here is an MTV News Story on Travis's statement.

Eh...well from the point of view of Blink 182 breaking up / taking a break I don't really care.

From the point of view of wanting information for other people then yes, I am interested.

I suppose I wasn't clear on that, my apologies. I hope that clarifies matters for you

If they are broken up for definite... I, and no doubt a lot of you, were at their last show. Ever. Kinda cool.

That's such good news, that band sucked so much ass through a straw.

While I don't agree with what you say, I do like the way you chose to say it.

Exactly! They weren't all that fantastic live anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭*adele*

Yeah, but there will be nothing new!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Yea, true. But you're not losing anything by that. You like them for what they've already released, not what they're going to release.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭ButcherOfNog

odd that some people are dissing the last album, yeah it was a bit different, but i thought in particular travis got to shine on it moreso that any of the previous ones. sad to see them go.

as for putting them in the same box as the 'good' charlotte, hello, earth calling deaf person. theres absolutely no quality at all in anything i've heard from that shower, the same cannot be said of blink 182.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,245 ✭✭✭✭Fanny Cradock

    They are/were SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHITE.

i really hope they have done the honourable thing and split forever. Thus saving the world from their mtv pop rock crap.

I used to love blink when i was about 16, had tickets for the gig that got canceled. I got a free ticket for the gig before christmas and it was without question the worst live performance i've ever seen. God they were awfull.
They barely played anything from dude ranch or their earlier stuff. The new stuff is dire. They had a really impressive light show but who cares.
I thought sugarcult were really good though, so the night was'nt a complete waste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,753 ✭✭✭qz

Blink were almost as bad as The Kinison that night.

    ...almost.
