How far is the cursed mild air aloft over Ireland???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Yep Danno as i have said western areas wont get any snow from
this too mild. Eastern areas are truely in the very cold atmoshphere
and will stay in it through the night and tomorrow :)

Even tho Knock is recording 2c its upper level temperatures
are being mixed by milder air aloft ;)

The blue line here shows the furthest extent of the milder
    air ;)

The 528dam line will be a crucial player
    Also the dew point

As i've said it will be touch and go for Laois ;)

So where is the boundary between this mild upper and cold upper air mass ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

We need more recording stations in this country. :(

Around the the connacht border getting as far as the Dublin border
tomorrow although this is very rough and local variances will
    be a crucial factor.

i feel more confident here having seen snow fall from this atmosphere tho ;)

theres no precipitation in the east so no sign of snow for hours yet, but atm theres drizzle/rain all around galway, clare and northern parts of kerry. are these just showers or is it the band of precipitation thats gonna effect us later tonight? from the look of things these will just move south into kerry & cork and then out to sea.

Ah, finally found Garfield on PAGE 29

@GONZO: It looks like a home-grown event in Galway, or it could be upper level activity. Rain/Snow evapourating before it hits ground.

Tempriture at shannon was 1 degree at 7pm now it is 4 degrees

the dew point has been -1 the whole evening and remains so at the moment. current conditions here dry but overcast.

    Me likes Me likes!! :D
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/live/radnirl1.jpg

Edit: according to latest data it should have began in belfast now and I believe it'll reach Dublin in roughly 3 hrs or a bit less. I'll get it in the hilly countryside of my abode about 45 mins before Dublin. It looks like that places west of Belfast are getting rain. Any reports?

Marching south with very heavy pulses :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭lucernarian

It's agonisingly close!! Radar puts the rain(snow:D) 4 miles to the north of my house in a curve away from it

Further update: "snow drizzle" has started. Hope it gets heavier. Expect it to hit the northern suburbs within 30 mins!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Hi it's snow tho is it?? :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭lucernarian

It's just a few tiny flakes drifting in the wind but still...:D. What I wonder is: If those heavy echoes pass over here will they be rain?, i.e. is the heavier precip associated with warm air?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Nah heavier = Heavier snow :D

Your on the cold side of the front :D;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze 2 hours of snow in before school :D

Because then i wont be going :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,236 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Do you mean that currently im on the cold side of a warm front about to pass? or the warm side of a cold front about to pass?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

No the warm front will never pass over you it will
    just slide south ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

There are literally just a few flakes falling. More like "frozen drizzle". Ground looks completely dry still even though its been "snowing" for 30 mins.

Added: Dublin appears to be... how will I put it... snowy.:)
Radar is quite interesting. Id love to know the current weather for the midlands. I now await met eireann's data.
