Discussion of new X-box and PS forums.

Now we have dedicated console forums , if we want to post about a game thats out on both do we post here or on all 3? If its only one do we post in games or on the console specific forum ?
If its a game thats not out but its unknown what exactly its coming out on do we post here there or elsewhere?
If its a gamecube game do we post here?
Is this now PC games and other consoles ?

i think splitting them up is a bad idea. there was nothing wrong with the way it was. Its too segmented now.

I agree there was not enough traffic going through games to warrent the split it into three forums.

Yeah, I hate this split, it's confusing where to post and way too segmented. I thought that in the numorous "can we get an ________ forum?" threads, everyone agreed that making seperate forums for consoles was not a good idea.

And another thing, tidy up the Games forums list, it looks a mess.

There isnt enough traffic on the games forum to warrant a split.. theres only a few new threads per day. Its rediculous, its just gonna take longer to browse the different forums now.

don't agree with this split of the games forum, but half life does deserve one as it has thousands of mods and plus has been around for 6 years.

if the split stays then there should be a nintendo console forum, but then what would the games forum be for?

This split is ridiculous. There will be less traffic on each. Also they will be just breathing grounds for fanboys of the respective console. But worst of all is that we will lose the opinions of other people with different consoles or PCs.

Yes, i totally agree. Can we please get rid of the Xbox and playstation forums and have 1 general games forum as before. I always found it more interesting seeing a mix of different posts on the general games forum. I dont want to just read about one particular system.

It’s no real surprise that nearly everyone here disagrees with the spite.

My advice is just (as suggested above) boycott them. Until I'm told other wise you can still talk about Xbox, PlayStation, Half-Life, etc, etc, etc topics here.

I don't think it's such a big deal to be honest, if people want to talk about games in general, they'll do it in the games forum and most of the users will end up posting in there any way. The platform specific threads will probably turn into help threads and "wow look at our exclusives" and pretty much nothing else.

I really dislike the way boards has been moving in 2005 and this is the worst decision yet. Im posting solely on the games forum even if its a thread/post PS2/XBOX exclusive.

Mabye this can work for us. If all the "games" regulars boycott the seperate forums mabye the fanboys will get caught in there and we will not have to listen to them anymore.

OT: I've just had a look around Games Toaster and it looks good but (there's always a but) you need your own logo, the image you have for games toaster at the top now looks kind of cheap and the reviews read more like previews and don't give a feeling for the game, the just skim over basics. They should go into the good and bad points of the game.

I've moved both the X-box modchip and Gamer list threads to the X-box forum and written a quick charter. I currently mod it by default, this may change in the future if I do not recover from my current World of Warcrack addiction (I'm only writing this because I can't log on to it at the moment). Same goes for the Playstation forum. Please do not pm me requesting I back your ambition for moderatorship ie. don't call me, I'll call you.

The Games Charter covers both of these new forums so be good or I'll sneak up behind you in stealth mode and stab you in the back. :eek:

Im with you on this one, the people who wanted these forums will nodoubt use it as a place to talk about modding the Ps/Xbox and you know what will happen then, the usual "how do i play pirate games" crap, i for one will be staying well away from these 2 new forums

I won't. As usual I must interpret Clouds will on this and after some thought I'm sure this will work. We will not be moving any threads to the new forums in the future. If people want to post about X-box or PS related stuff they can do it either here or in those specific forums.

I have opposed seperation in the past and am a bit annoyed at Cloud doing yet another one of his "come in, change everything and then buggar off" routines. However , the worst that can happen is that those forums will die.

The way I see it, Games is a hub for those people that consider themselves gamers. If fanboys want to post to their particular forum then they can. But if you don't want to you don't have to.

And to address the poster who posted about piracy in the new forums while I wrote the above I believe the charters I have written for them will answer his/her concerns.

This division stays until I feel we've tried it and it failed. I'd like PS1/2/3 and XBox1/2 threads moved to that forum please moderators.
Threads about games that are played cross-platform can stay where they are first posted (here or in the Console's specific forum). Threads about the likes of Halo2 which are console specific should be moved.

I dont know that this will work. The point is, neither do you. We'll try it and we'll discover. Until then, I dont EVER want to hear this sort of sh*t on Boards again.

I think most people want to discuss games no matter what console they are on. Having to browse 2 console forums, a games forum for PC and multi platform games and everything in between and a non-existant Nintendo forum is madness. What next, an atari jaguar forum?

Dev, this is absolutely ridiculous. Most of this board's users either own, or are at least interested in, two or three of the consoles. For those that aren't, the board is hardly swamped with threads and ignoring ones that don't interest them is no effort. To me, all this move is doing is breaking up cross-format discussion and making it so much more time consuming to read threads of interest.

I can't think of a single benefit to this move.

You've talked in another post about the consoles going online, and you want a place for the communities to grow. There are more sensible ways to do that, (say... an online console forum), but the only communities that are going to grow out of these types of forums are cliquey, mine's-better-than-yours communities.

Fair enough, it's your call, I've no right blah blah, but pretty much every single forum regular without exception is against this move. Nobody is crying out for these forums, and if the strongest argument against this will of opposition is "well, we'll wait and see", then I think that says something.

But if you all want a scientific argument. We, the admins created over 350 forums and the vast VAST majority of them are vibrant and alive. Only clan forums and spur-of-the-moment jokes have really failed. So, my track record is pretty good... hows yours?

Now I didnt make that argument, my argument has all along been: I'll see how things go.

I will do just that and if it doesnt work I'll move them all back here. You can dance on anything you like at that point. I've taken on board that some vociferous people dont want this. Some people on the forums in question seem to want it. He who shouts the loudest doesnt make the law and I *really* dont react well to being shouted at or threatened by "boycotts".

Those are bluffs I *really* enjoy calling.
