Just curious, I found this section, there doesn't seem to be too much action, although I think that should change! Hopefully this'll get people chatting here!

I'm only 16, although I'm mad into my boats.. My parents own a 1980 Broom Commodore 35. It's an ex-Emerald star, we bought it off them the year before last. Brilliant boat, takes every kinda water we throw it at. can also fit into our friends makeshift marina for all the barbeques. Inside, there's buckets of room everywhere you turn, and since it's an ex-Emerald star, it's made for easy maintanence. Everything's done neatly under the floor, and the engine can be lifted out very easily if needed. It doesn't require much maintanence, and has served us very well in the short time we've had it. This is our second boat, the first being a very historic piece in Lowtown, Kildare. It's an old Canadian house boat. It's got cathedral hull, which was in bits when we bought it. It was sitting on crates for years before we bought it and they had cracked and broken over time. There was also a massive diesel sitting in the back of it which had to be removed. It was ours for about 3 years, two of which were spent making severe repairs to it. It took about 6 months to actually get into the water after we'd bought it. We had it on the canals with a 20 horse power mercury outboard. Was very noisey and gave you a splitting headache after sitting beside it for approx. 10 hours on the trip from Lowtown to Vicarstown, of course, by car it was 45 minutes! But it was worth the extra time to see the canals in my oppinion. It's a very friendly little area down there, although during the winter it's a good idea to avoid it unless you have your boat in the yard on the concrete. otherwise you're standing in mud all day if you're doing repairs on the outside of the boat. We currently have the boat in Carrick-on-Shannon boat club. We're borrowing the spot from my uncle who moved to Spain for a few years, but he's now back so we have to find a new spot. We're thinking of just buying one there seeing as it's so nice. Although we wouldn't mind moving down south for a while. The furthest we've dared to venture was Banagher, just north of Lough Derg. I'm dying to see the Derg, and we're hoping to get down there this year as my friend is keeping his there.

I've got one question though, and that is:

I bought a small speedboat (currently a slowboat with my 6 horse Johnson) and I was told it's a 'marina 13'. I have searched the internet and of course, 'marina' having alot to do with boats it wasn't very successful. Does anybody know where to go to find their site? if they have one..

Would that be powerboats or sailboats?
I currently have an RS Feva and its great fun especially in anything above a force 3 with the kite up :D

Whatever sits in the water and keeps you happy!
They're nice boats the Feva. I'm dying to go for a good sail again! can't wait for the summer! Although, I'd prefer to be wind driven. A big group of my friends all have sailing boats, although, none of them have dinghys that are open and you can capsize for a bit of a laugh. Toppers are great craic! I love when you're sailing and you have to play with the wind and try and get her leaning. There's gotta be a fair wind, but that's what I love about sailing!

    Hey,

We currently have a 40ft sigma sailing yacht which we use for racing and long distance cruising.

Any other real sailers here or are you all motor boat technicians :-)

anyway what ever you are happy and safe sailing

Well, I'd love to have a motor cruiser, with a sailing dinghy.. That'd be the best set up in my oppinion. You'd have the best of 'boat' worlds.. The comfort of a motor cruiser, and the joy of a sailer too. Can't wait for summer!

i currently own(well my dad) a 13' Dory with a 50hp Yamaha 2-Stroke. Fast little fecker! Also a Achilles 24. I don't use it though. My dad and brother prefere sailing. Not my kettle of fish! And finally my brother owns a 14' Fireball.

    That's my 2 cents!

I'm half thinking of getting a Dory. A 13 would be nice, cause it's gonna be a dinghy. I love sailing too, considering getting a Topper if I see one for a few hundred with all the rigging. Where abouts do you use them?

Yo, I used to sail toppers and had my own, but gave it up cuz i wasnt into the competitive side of it. theres been yachts in my family for years and Iv been sailing since i was 4ish. Back then we had an Etap 23, then we got a Westerly Pentland 32, that was nice but not great for real sailing it used to broach a lot without the slightest warning, if I remember correctly mam got a really serious cut on the side of her head, after that we had a Sadler 25, fairly good for racing but very cramped inside, then we had a Westerly Tempest 31, loved that boat, really roomy, nice for sailing and just cruising, now we've got a Albin Vega 27, i bloody hate it, absolutely no room in it what so ever, according to father very sea worthy and good for racing singl-handedly, but i refuse to go near the thing especially with a four year old brother in tow!!!!!!!!!! boats continuously reside in Kilmore Quay Marina, Wexford. Smelly hole! cant understand their blue flag!!!! although we do sometimes cruise the south-west coast for a few weeks durin the summer.
