Got the 750K package installed on Monday and compared to my previous offering of IBB Ripwave I am dead happy! Only a fiver more per month and its way faster. No fuss over the installation, the guy even dropped the cable down through my hot press and tied it to the wall to put the point exactly where I wanted it. He even hoovered up the dust from the drilling!

Anyhoo the result is much faster access all the time (not just at 4 in the morning as IBB recommended I try the connection).
Anyone else have the same or other experiences?

C'mon mate, anyone who has a working NTL package is happy. It's just annoying if you have a poor signal or the line keeps dropping.

there is nothing wrong with the settings and signal strenght its the contention !! spikes between 7 - 12 most nights !!!

should I be asking to move to a less busy contention ??

Please don't shoot the n00bish questioner, but how do you ping? :(

Yeah, I use it for online gaming alright :D

I had the exact same problem you are having and after a few days of ringing and emailing them pings to websites. NTL got the problem sorted. Since then I haven't had any problems!

Here's the thread link: NTL Prolbem!

Try running some tracerts to see where the fault is then you can let NTL know.

    Hit the windows start button.
    Select Run
Type in CMD and press enter/return
Type ping www.jolt.co.uk and press enter/return

If you're having a problem with bad pings do this

    Hit the windows start button.
    Select Run
Type in CMD and press enter/return
Type tracert www.jolt.co.uk and press enter/return

Now what does this mean exactly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Its the time taken for a piece of information to go from your computer to www.jolt.co.uk and back. High pings will show up as lag in online games.

Were you doing much on the internet when you did that ping?

    nope, nothin.

    nope, nothin.

I gave the Gaim link as a joke in response to the typo/spelling mistake (gaiming/gaming).
    I can't think of one for whay/why.

Back on topic, I too am getting crappy pings to jolt in D15 (near Coolmine train station):
    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=70ms TTL=49
    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=297ms TTL=49

    Reply from 195.149.21.11: bytes=32 time=103ms TTL=49
I haven't contacted ntl because it is not hindering any of my activities (I'm not a gamer).

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Those pings are a little high. You should be averaging about 30ms to jolt on NTL. No need to worry unless your a gamer.
