Yup yup, about:blank is pretty good... I don't like to have my browser UI feeling sluggish because a page is loading when I open a fresh window... or have some nasty-ass connection dialog box if I'm not already connected.
Actually, what I've used for the past few years is a simple html (stored localy) with some of my most used sites linked from it... it's even faster than using bookmarks, and doesn't clutter like toolbar links... it's not a replacement for bookmarks, but for things like boards.ie and email accounts, it really shaves milliseconds off my browsing, which at the end of the day = productivity++ !!!!

    google, is pretty much blank

how could you possibly use baords as your homepage, its down more than its up,
your browser would be timing out all day....

I know your comment is pretty much tongue in cheek, however, Firefox allows multiple "home"pages with it's tabbed browsing facility.

Sure, the individual pages don't display, but this does not impact the other sites.

for some bizarre reason last weekend, I got a lovely virus on my PC that changed my homepage to about:blank then installed a trojan virus every time I opened up explorer. It also added 3 porn sites onto my favourites which took some explaining....

so now have loads of anti spyware installed as the brower hijack seemed to link to ages ago having not fully deleted Kazaa files....

so was really wary of about:blank

Now, as mentioned on /. all we need is a virus which deletes IE6, installs Firefox and sets it as your default browser :P

    Firefox default:

    http://www.google.ie/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

Couldn't be arsed changing it. Used to be boards, but then I found that I'd log in, start Firefox, go off and get a cup of tea, and then all the new threads would be marked read.

I have some crappy false search engine as my homepage because it was hijacked. Tried everything to fix it but nothing works and I can't be arsed formatting and reinstalling everything so it's gonna stay for a while.
I'd like to have www.google.ie again though.

    e.g

    www.boards.ie|www.google.ie
