boards.ie Birthday - 7 Years Since Inception!

As you may know, boards.ie grew out of a single forum discussing Quake on the Irish Games Network (IGN). (Somewhere along the line, the original "first post" went AWOL, but I can reliably inform you that it was made on 12th February 1998.)

boards.ie Ltd. was registered as a company on 24th January 2000. The boards.ie site went live in February 2000 (don't have the exact date right now), but boards.ie did incorporate all the previous content from the IGN Boards.

Thus I declare 12th February to be boards.ie's birthday (7th or 5th birthday depending on your point of view). Enjoy!

    What's funny about Cake?

I second Beruthiel's suggestion and suggest that the cake be made in the form of the old boards.ie guy...

I see where you're coming from. That there can only ever be one of me and anything else is an insult to my name?

Is it 7 years already!... I think it'd be cool to dig up some all-time classic threads like those concerning the IGN->Boards.ie changeover, previous boards birthdays, threads about major world events in the last 7 years. etc.
Make some kind of feature out of it.
    Or not, whatever
Anyway, here's a blast from the past to comemorate the event!

Seven years... been reading for seven, posting for six. Wow. I wonder how many words I've written.

In internet time, boards is ancient, yet it's still as fresh and as entertaining to me as ever. Long may it continue and once again heartfelt thanks to those corrupt and wicked bastards we call the Admins. I know a little of some of the uncredited miracles (especially "the freezer method;)) you guys have done to keep this place going.

Lastly this February the twelfth thing, that wouldn't have anything to the Chinese New Year would it, my lord Cloud? ;)

2005 - Year of the Cock^H^H^H^HRooster Baby! Long live Boards!

The "Freezer" method is beautiful, righteous and if given time, will lead humanity to the salvation we long for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

After popping lacerta.ucg.ie/boards into archive.org and getting the PESC '00 page, I pulled this out:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4
    t=0-3 aren't there

Would I be right in saying that's the oldest thread on "Boards.ie" ??

I think we should all acknowledge my pivotal role in this momentous day with some sort of statute.

Sangre's Law, huh? There are a few potential "rules" which could fit..

As I mentioned, someone (in the Quake forum) must have deleted the first post, but I will restore it someday soon...

You asking the admins, or everyone?

Please define "better"? More enjoyable? More interesting? More profitable?

I've certainly done a lot to make my life "better" in the last 7 years, some of it was related to Boards.ie too. Some things I've done have made my life less enjoyable but nothing ventured nothing gain.
