Where to buy Protein?

    Hi lads/ladies.

Having read a recent thread mentioning protein for body building, I reckon I need some.

    But where to buy?
Is there anywhere in town (Dublin) or is online cheaper?

Some recomendations on brand would be appreciated too :)

I'm a veggie, but this doesn't seem to be a problem as none of those mentioned was meat based. Would prefer not to use egg based (unless it was freerange) but whey and soya are fine.

This might give you a clue as to why that was a pointless answer.

I prefer whole foods too, but I think he wants a powder. If the man wants a powder let him have it! :)

Nuts are generally a good source of protein, especially peanuts.

Nuts are great. Peanut butter is an excellent source of nutrition. Its an incomplete protein, but it can be a great component of your diet.

kasintahan, you may notice around town that the health stores will have good deals on certain proteins every month, which is good for experimenting with different proteins/brands.

the protein in nuts is very poor quality. It only contains about half the amino acids required by humans, which makes it useless by itself. Combining lentils or beans with cereals provides good quality protein. adding nuts to this combination gives excellent quality protein. You don't need to eat all three foods in the one meal to achieve this effect, although leaving a meal between consuming the different protein types probably would not achieve the desired effect.

No, its not useless by itself.

    Try it sometime. :)

In fact I have just reminded myself how nice it is, I have to have one.

It is you know. I was talking about the protein in nuts, not nuts themselves, so all the blurb about vitamins and calories is irrelevant. Incomplete protein is not useful for building muscle. Nuts contain incomplete protein.

Nuts alone as has been said are in incomplete protein so if you want to use them for muscle building (bad idea in the quantity you'd need anyway) you'll have to eat a complementary incomplete source aswell.

However they are great for EFAs.

i can get hold of most Maximuscle products at nigh on trade price - if you're Dublin based. PM me if you have a particular product in mind and I can get you a price. This offer should stand for a while for boardsies

Thank for all the repies lads.

I know nuts aren't the best source, incomplete or no they are usually laden with fat. Brazil nuts are the best trade off, being relativly low fat and containing reasonable protein (or so the intarweb tells me).

I might take you up on that Uberwolf.
Will get back to you once I check some of the prices online and work out how much I need.

Yeah, it's powder I prefer, mainly because I'm too lazy to eat properly and can't cook at home for political reasons (involving a pathalogical fear of grease, real or imaginary, which once released seems to touch all surfaces in a 5 meter radius - or so it seems  )

Kasintahan please give yourself a good slap for saying "i'm too lazy", these guys gave you some great advice and then you slap it back by saying your too lazy!!!

Please also read the tread i started on essential fats as all nuts are packed full of these and helpful for muscle growth.

Finally, it does not matter if you do not combine incomplete proteins at the same time. Your body will make them when you take the other proteins at another stage.

I think you misread my post Transform. Perhaps I worded it badly. Who knows.
I started by thanking the guys for their contribution.
A lot of the thread was a slightly off topic disscussion on the merits of nuts. While relevent to the general theme it doesn't really hit the thread title on the head.

This may as well be, I even bothered to read up on it. I believe I mentioned the Brazil nuts? (on which I am open to argument). Haven't seen your thread, will have a look.

Thanks for pointing that out. I basically want the protein eqivalent of a multivitamin, something with everything if that's possible.

Yeah. It's very important, because it's when you're resting that you grow, the gym is the stimulus.

The best place that I've found to buy protein powder in Brazil is at
    iHerb.com
it has it all the same stuff you can get at GNC with cheaper prices and you can get a $5 discount on your first order with them if you use this discount code: GIG072 And the shipping is very cheap.

Brazil nuts and buying protein in brazil are two different things :D

For the record, I use iHerb for Fish Oil (caps and liquid). For Protein, I use the UK suppliers. Your post will be removed as we're not allowed discount codes here. I think you're allowed to do it by PM but your post (and username) is very suspect - together with the fact that this is a 5-year old thread.
