Well if it isn't fat you can't burn it off.
What is your height/weight? Are you overweight?
Could be the ulcer or bloatedness.

Oldyellar you need to give more info to get a proper reply. I would be guessing otherwise.
    What is your age?
Are you doing any resistance exercises?
    When are your meals (times)?
How long does it take to walk 4 miles?
    Waist size?

Simple info and a better answer i guarantee

    No pleasing some people!

Try to have something more substantial high in complex carbs. Oatmeal or porridge something along those lines.
then at half 1 the break thats usually brown bread and tuna and cheese sandwich

You should have a snack between 8 and 1, it's a long time to go without food. Some fruit or a protein source. You might drop the cheese from the sandwich but it's doubtful it's doing you that much harm. Any mayonaisse or heavy sauces or anything on the roll?
dinner is usually around 7 probably pasta and bolognese or faijita or something like that

You should try again having a snack between 1pm and 7pm. It's 6 hours that your body has to go without food. Also pasta and bolognese and even fajita will all have a rich sauce. I'm not sure if this is possible in your situation but it'd be better to switch your large meal to 1pm and eat a smaller lunch type meal at 7pm. I usually don't eat any carbs after 5:30pm.
thats about it then im 21 and waist size 12

Measurements sound fine. The problem is more than likely that you're not actually eating enouch and also not often enough. You should increase your intake, tweak the meals a little, combine it with a few sessions of cardio a week and watch the weight come off.

Dont notice you mention eating any veg at all, maybe add some to your diet, but not too much potato. Have heard mixing carbs and protein can make you bloat. A tummy is the hardest thing to tone for a girl, imo, but youre going the right way :)

aww yea i never eat veggies , brocoli an odd time

Do you find this makes a difference? As I'm led to believe, only total daily calorie intake ultimately matters with regard to gaining bodyfat. Or is it just a case of switching over to protein/fat in the evening to prevent the likelihood of de novo lipogenesis from (excess) carbohydrates?

De Novo lipogenesis will not occur unless carb intake significantly exceeds total calorific expenditure for any given period or the amount that occurs will be insignificant.

This is not a concern anyone on a normal diet should have. And the total daily calories in theory that states it doesn't matter where form the calories are from or when they're ingested only total intake over total expenditure is a bit simplified.

Yes if you need 2000 calories in a day but only eat 1800 then you have to source 200 from elsewhere.

However you need a different amount of calories at different times throughout the day. If you eat 2000 cals at one meal you're going to store a significant amount of it as fat. Of course cals will have to be pulled from elsewhere at a later date but the danger is it may be pulled from muscle depending on your protein intake.

I tend not to eat carbs at night because I found the metabolism slows significantly and if I stay away from late carbs I find it easier to shift weight over time.

That makes sense, with regard to total daily calorie intake. As like you said, if the extra calories required after a 2000kcal meal come from muscle, this would decrease the Basal Metabolic Rate in the long run. Coupled with the significant amount of that large meal being stored as bodyfat, it doesn't sound like a good idea for either losing bodyfat or gaining mass.

But would tweaking the macronutrient ratios in that large meal have an effect: if protein was high enough, this would prevent post-meal muscle catabolism?

Really depends how long you go before your next meal. If you even eat 2000cals of pure protein and then wait 24 hours to eat again you're going to run into problems.

Absolute safest method I find is meals every 2.5 hours with a 40:40:20 macro ratio.

I'll change this to suit if I'm dieting or bulking accordingly. Technically on paper according to calories in versus calories out a 2000cal meal once per day should suffice however I certainly wouldn't like to test the theory.

The frequent small meals approach seems to already be established in most peoples eating habits, at least in the workplace environment, i.e. Breakfast at 8am/9am, Snack at 11am ("Elevenses"), Lunch at 1pm, etc... the frequency at ~2hr intervals presumably to stabilise energy levels and maintain productivity.
How do you yourself alter the macro ratios for dieting and bulking?

I havent eaten a din all week , im so busy way stressed out , tuna is what im living on at the minute

Why dont you consider varying your intake of food somewhat. I mean your eating a Tuna sandwhich all week, why not try varying it such as soup, different types of sandwhiches (perhaps some vegetables on it), have some fruit after your lunch or save it for later.

Eating the exact same for lunch everyday cant be good for you, Im no doctor obviously. Its just something I couldn't do, I have to have something different for lunch everyday.

Although I would consider asking your doctor about whether the ulcer could have anything to do with your stomach.

yea im goin back to the doc about it soon , tunas handy just open the tin and away you go :D

Why not just increase your cardio?

Change a 4 mile walk to a 4 mile run?

Nothing beats the flab like cardio.

    Look at me -

I eat **** loads, but I do a lot of exercise. My fat is minimal because I burn it off.

What difference would that make dublindude?

What you want to do is spend the hour walking, runnning.

    ?

A more intense workout will burn more calories.

People always focus on diet too much when trying to lose weight. Sitting on your arse and eating healthier food isn't going to do much good.

You have to get up and make it happen.

getting my exercise bike soon so that should help too yay :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,187 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

But calorie wise there isn't much difference between running 4 miles and walking it. You're still covering the same distance. It will improve fitness though.

Well I'm no nuitritionist or trainer, but I would say that the average bod has to work a lot harder when running rather than when walking.
