Take advantage of websites that only ship to the states. Although you may need an address for that which isn't like... a hotel or whatever. Depends what you're doing.

hey cool, I'm going too, on the 31st of March. Dallas Texas y'all!

seriously though, never been to the states, and wondering what there is to do over there. looking forward to some good eatin.

remember watching a tv show that said that texas was the obesity capital of the world. woohoo bring it on!

might be in the market for some pooter bits, or other geeky paraphenalia. maybe an ipod, but not 100% sure. might have to go for the new high capacity netmd (better battery life, and can swap disks) but still not sure about it though.

wat else is there to do? i'll be busy for most of it, but i'll have 2 days after the course to do my own thing, and was thinking of getting a car (would have to be a convirtible mustang!) and doing a little tour of the area.

anyone been that far inland? i get the feeling most people just go to new york or other east coast places. texas is a long way from everywhere (14hrs from gatwick).

You can get these in Ireland. :)

Postcards. That way if you're in the NewYork subway and bums are stopping you every five feet trying to sell you their stolen cards at $2 a piece to 'help out their poor crack riddled grandma' or woteva you can pull out your stash and go 'sorry mate, I already helped out another guy just 2 mins ago'. They look at you in a confused manner for about 10 seconds and then just p1ss off.

I can get the reese's cups in a Texaco near me. Crazy expensive though...

Games are cheap in america, but the PS ones aren't compatible with PSes here, so, yeah, that sucks.

Froot loops are nice on their own, but not with milk. Milk and fruit don't mix
    Except strawberry milkshakes.

    Hmmmm,

America is lovely and yes i agree it is quite laid back. BUT... yes there is a but, Becareful don't get overly carried away withe consumer goods, clothings and music cds are fine, just remember, all american consumer electrics, everything from playstations to dvds are in the NTSC colour format which means they'll work over here in black & white only, you could get caught quite easily, i was, i paid $440 dollars for a samsung Camcorder it claimed to Dual format, NTSC & PAL but it only feeds out in a Format Called PAL60 which means you cant but it onto blank VHS, when i got home and check internal American sites like nextag, the same camcorder was retailing at $199.99  If you want electrics get them here you also have a comeback if anything goes wrong. I rang samsung uk at the time and they told me they were not even the same company as samsung us. Also remember that the US electricity is 110V ours is 220V a transformer will be reguired unless its dual voltage

Basically the moral of the story is get those nifty electrics here or at least in Europe.

    Regards netwhizkid

Dr. Paco just wants to say hello as a new member on the board, but also....

It was very interesting to see what things you find important to obtain or experience when you're visiting the States, but Dr. Paco wants to know what things you would consider most important to you in your country. Dr. Paco has had the good fortune to travel and experience different parts of the worlds, but would be interested in knowing what goods you would recommend experiencing when visiting your country.

Also if Dr. Paco can answer any questions or offer suggestions on things in the States, feel free to ask.

Buy DVD's that are not out over here yet, that's if you have a regionfree player.

    just what i was thinking.

can't remember the name of the shop, but i got a wireless optical intellimouse explorer 2.0 for something stupid like $24 (it costs about €50 on komplett iirc)
gamecube games are amazingly cheap too. i got a couple of player's choice titles for $20 each (€30 over here) and viewtiful joe 2 for $45 (gonna be €60 when it actually gets released over here)
that was in toys r us on times square.
the only downside is that you'll have to pay a few quid to get a freeloader/chip your console.

It's quite important to me that idiots don't speak in the third person when referring to themself all the time.

Also, it seems this thread is just full of young pups who have a penchant for tooth rotting sweets. Of primary interest going to the States is electronics. Important in this country is the fact that we have decent beer. At least to me it is. When I go over at the end of this month I'll be trying to find somewhere that sells decent beers, and also I might get a new digital camera, or mp3 player.
