Just Done stupid thing

I've just done a really stupid thing. I went to the atm to get out money. When I got my card back I walked away and forgot to get the money. Luckily it was only 20E but I feel so stupid.

I went to the shop straight after, realised that I didn't have the money and ran back to the bank, but alas my money was gone.

Does anyone know if no one takes the money does it go back into the account, or does it just sit there until someone takes it?

I'd say someone probably just took it, more than likely one of those homeless chaps you see squatting in the corner. Leason learned. :D

after 30 second the machine takes the money bach in.
it goes into a separate section of the machine afaik.

ring your bank and explain, they should have a process in place for this.
if no one was around most likely the money went back in and youll get it back ina day or two.

Was there a queue behind you? If so, and nobody shouted after you, you're 20 bob lighter. Otherwise, it's probably resting in your account.

    happens all the time,
they have a process, you have to wait until the next time the machine is emptied so they can count it.

i used to work ina shop with an atm, so have had a few dealings with it.

I know someone who did that and they went into the bank and there was actually a camera in the machine so they could see what happened to the cash. It was a small town so they found the person who took it and asked them to give it back - and they did!!!

I was waiting at the atm in the airport last week. THere are two atms, so I was queued at the international currency one. This woman (let's call her woman A) goes to the € one, punches in all her numbers, great, then hurriedly goes over to the Bureau de Change. The woman in the queue behind her (lets call her woman B) then approaches the ATM, and I get a look at the screen. The ATM is at the "Choose Amount" screen. Immediately I think that the ATM is frozen, with woman A's card in it, that's why she was in such a rush.
Woman B however, just looks confused. She thinks that somehow, this ATM is different to Every other ATM in the country and is asking her how much she wants before she puts in her card. She promptly presses the €100 button. A card pops out.
Now she's *really* confused, so she removes the card, looks at it, looks at her boyfriend. Then of course, the €100 pops out, and it finally dawns on her, so she chases the other woman over to the counter.

Woman & ATMs do not mix.

    The mind boggles

My cousin left money in a bank machine too about a year ago. We were going to the pub and he went to the machine next door. When we got inside the pub he was about to order when he suddenly just ran away. I wondered what was up till he came back in and explained he had left the €50 in the machine. A guy was just after walking up to it and had the €50 in his hand. My cousin asked if it was his, and the guy said no. So luckily he got it back. That guy could easily have said it was his though and there wouldn't be much he could do about it.

my money got sucked back in, i was still at the machine, my phone rang, so i saw it go back in.

when i went online, it had still been deducted from my account, i got the money back as i knew it wasn't stolen.

As everyone has said, yes it goes back into the machine. We had a machine in work where the money came out below the place you typed in the digits.... couple of people didn't notice and had their money sucked back in.

A few years ago i was going out on the last with people from work, we all walked up to the nearest Atm , as i approced it there was no one around, however there was a wad of money stikcing out of it. well i ahve to admit i took it ( €300 ) i then didn't need to take any money out, there was no card or anything in the machine. so anyways, the rest of the peeps all take out thier money .... i get a ring on the mobile so i'm chatting away , they walk a bit, so i can have the argument with the then GF in some peace, and the bank machine again sticks otu a wad of money ... was very strange, i didnt' take it but one of the girls noticed it and she took it this time.

about 2 weeks later we where going out again , popped down to the machine .. but it had been removed :(

Happened to a guy in front of me in a queue for the ATM, and just as he realised his mistake and came back for the money the machine gobbled it up.

god I really don't understand how someone could forget to take the money. Its like going to a petrol station to get a fill up but forgetting to get petrol?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Shred

Did it myself last year. I was late for a rehearsal and had to get to my Dad's to collect my kit*. On the way I stopped to take out €20 to pay for the rehearsal and in my haste legged it back to the car without it. Only realised when I got to my Dad's house and then remembered there was a girl standing directly behind me at the ATM:( I hope she enjoyed it

*queue the stupid drummer jokes

I won't name her but she checked her balance and forgot to take her card afterwards, someone relieved her of 300. She was in bits as it was 3 wknds work. And whomever it was took it had been in the Q behind her, so no excuse.

All you forgetfull people, beware the atm in limerick station. I was rushing to get the last train back to dublin one night about 2 years ago. Walked briskly in the front door and straight up to the atm. there was noone at all while i was walking in, got up to the machine and there was €60 sticking out of it. Looked around and asked a girl if she or anyone else had been at the machine. She didnt know and there was noone else around. Waited about another 30 seconds for the money to disappear back in. It still hadnt and the train was about to depart and i still needed to buy a ticket so i eventually just took the money and bought my ticket out of it. just made the train. Dont feel guilty cause there was nothing more i could have done, wasnt going to miss the last train cause of someone else's mistake.

was in the bank of ireland in roxboro shopping centre limerick lodging money into an account i had there, had the notes in one hand and atm card in another. handed the card over the counter, cashier tots up the balance and credits it to my account and hands me back the card. me being me turns and walks out the door not realising i still have the money in my hand. decided to go back as these people have a habit of taking it back when you havent got it.

have also seen people leaving credit cards in machines, dont know how many of them i have handed in belonging to people in front of me in a queue.

you could have contacted the ulster bank on o connell street in limerick and asked them to check their logs of who took money out of their account before you used your own card. and repayed whoever it was the €50

I think honesty is the best policy. Ive seen people drop phones and people pick them up and go after the person to give them back. Its nice to know there more decent people around then scumbags Couple of weeks ago, i left a 20 in the atm n o comnell st, :o rembered 10 seconds later, it was there when i went back, lucky me indeed.
