    Tools...
    ...Options...
    ......Downloads....

Sorry but you deserve a slagging for blaming such a popular tool when the settings are in a very obvious place.

Does anyone else find that Firefox is much slower at loading pages than IE. Images especially seem to take longer. Am I crazy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Maybe IE has more pages cached

Yeah QED and all that, but wait here comes the science:

Using this formula we can not only prove that Firefox sucks but also indeed that all other things known to man suck, because no matter what you select there is always someone who "doesn't know how".
For example: Motor cars suck because there are lots of people who have yet to learn and "don't know how" to drive them. Guitars suck because many people "don't know how" to play them.
There are however a few situations where the results of this formula may be confusing and quite paradoxical, e.g. A woman who "does not know how" to perform fellatio may be said to suck despite the fact that in another sense she actually does not suck. Therefore one must be careful in the way one presents any fact based on this formula.

Do you suppose this thread means that Vodafone suck or that his phone does?

that was just an attention grabber :P but i have been having lots problems with firefox...disappearing bookmarks for example, i did try and find the answers at the site myself before asking? same with the other question!

right so theres an option for file types

    it list winamp playlist

and says open it in winamp it does't give any options to add anymore more or edit them

when i click plugins it says theres a load of them there but then again gives me no options!

I think youre getting a very hard time chewy

you wouldnt keep trying to figure out firefox if you thought it sucked.

Im sure you think its great.

    Now make a retraction :)

    Tools -> Options -> Downloads.

    Click plugins and uncheck MP3.

Now click on an MP3 link. It will ask to download or open with a certain program. You can either download or click the dropdown list and select "Other" to have a different program launch them.

As for bookmarks disappearing. I've seen that happen before although I don't know what does it (only on one machine).

not just for winamp but how do you change the settings for all outside applications....

the only one it lsited was winamp and doens't seem to allow to add any others

If this is for the "quicklinks" that are just above the actual page (by default) then it happens ALOT to me when Alt-Tabbing from UT2004 (Unreal Tournament 2004 - a game :)) to windows and back again. I'm not entirely sure what causes it, but it's most frequent after that activity.

Anyway, to make them reappear again, maximise/restore the firefox window, and hit Ctrl+H to open your internet history in a side window. Once it's open, hit Ctrl+H again and it'll disappear, but leave your quicklinks back in their original location.
No idea why it works, but it works :)

    It's not a game - it's a way of life

Now get back to your study ;)

how do you get Firefox to open new links in a new tab instead of opening a new window all the time? I've tried all the options but none of them seem to make this happen? Is it even possible?

Tools > Options > Advanced > Browsing > Select new tab when clicking links

    :)

You can also middle click the mouse.

One of the few criticisms I have of Firefox - and there are very few - is when you open a new window, and you're typing the URL of where you want to go, if the loaded page contains a text box (e.g., www.google.ie), the text box will grab focus and half the URL you've typed will end up inside it. This annoys me no end.

There are other problems such as plugins for the browser but on the whole it's very solid. Certainly doesn't suck.

I assumed he meant when an external application tries to open a webpage :)

Sometimes it opens a new window, sometimes it re-uses the current tab in the opened window - that option forces it to use a new tab in teh current window... handy

Firefox is fine - except for boards.ie - see http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=219888

    :)

I don't have this option. The closest I have to it is 'Select New Tab Opened from Links' but I have this checked and it still won't open new links in a new tab. It always opens a new window.

look the image that will hopefully be attached

no options for adding or editing applications

Now click on an MP3 link. It will ask to download or open with a certain program. You can either download or click the dropdown list and select "Other" to have a different program launch them.

when you click into plugins it says you can either have a file be open in another application or download to disk but doens't give you an option to edit how the files are opened???

firefox is the BEST application ever since windows ;)

the amount of extensions and functionality it has is just amazing, it can save you lots of hand movement, mass picture saving, and so on...
