I found this on a forum earlier and these little changes add some serious speed to firefox while browsing, so I thought I'd share it with you guys.

Open 'about:config' in your address bar and then...

    For Broadband:

    network.http.max-connections : 64
    network.http.max-connections-per-server : 21
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 8
    network.http.pipelining : true
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests : 100
    network.http.proxy.pipelining : true

    For Dial-up:

    browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl : true
    browser.xul.error_pages.enabled : true
    content.interrupt.parsing : true
    content.max.tokenizing.time : 3000000
    content.maxtextrun : 8191
    content.notify.backoffcount : 5
    content.notify.interval : 750000
    content.notify.ontimer : true
    content.switch.threshold : 750000
    network.http.max-connections : 32
    network.http.max-connections-per-server : 8
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy : 8
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server : 4
    network.http.pipelining : true
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests : 8
    network.http.proxy.pipelining : true
    nglayout.initialpaint.delay : 750
    plugin.expose_full_path : true
    signed.applets.codebase_principal_support : true

Then right click anywhere in that window(if your on broadband, this is useless on dialup) and click new>integer with the name "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and the value "0"

This will cause there to be no delay in rendering pages, and will also make a crapload of connections to a websites server. this is about the max number you can do before anti-DOS stuff kicks in at there end. and it WILL speed up browsing a lot...

Sorry m8 but these options are only available to firefox v1.0 so unfortunately you will have to upgrade.

I applied the changes where I could yesterday. There were 3 lines described in the first post that were not in my Firefox. However, I applied the other changes anyway. I didn't really notice any difference at all really!

Than today, when I turned back on my computer, Firefox was not doing any browsing for me at all! All I got was an empty window, in the bottom left corner it said 'Stopped', and the mouse cursor was the arrow+eggtimer.

So, I reinstalled Firefox, and its back to normal now - but I won't be applying those changes again methinks!

    :(

    Seanie.

Same settings are available in Mozilla (latest version).
Can't say I've noticed that much difference though.

The only thing these setting do is change the prefs.js file. If you are going to play with these firefox settings you should back this file up, that way if it all goes belly up you can restore the settings to their previous (working)
values. prefs.js should be in your profile folder.

Changing these settings at most will only mess up your firefox install.. which you can simply reinstall.

The only problem I've had with these settings (I'm not 100% its related to changing these settings) is when I start up firefox it seems to freeze for a couple of seconds and then runs fine.

Firefox seems to run a little quicker alright but I didnt get all of the settings changed and I have version 1. Still browsing on boards since they upgraded and this firefox boost does make a notible difference from what it used to be like

Yeah, I find Boards more awkward to navigate around. Used to have a list of the various boards across the top of the screen. Don't have it now :(

Yup, I saw these settings on a thread on Mikado.

    Definitely works a treat!!! :D
