Injury Recovery

Hi, i was wondering if somebody could give me advice on a injury i had/have. I played Rugby competetively from the age of 8 to 16, when in 1 season i had 3 serious knee injuries, 2 on my left (i also happen to be leftfooted) and 1 on my right.....in each case the injury was torn ligaments, two types, 1 was crutiate...i can't remember the name of the other....anyway i went to a psyco school where winning rugby games was more important than education and childrens well being, so i was always pressured back to playing asap, literally a week or 2 after i got off crutches, i also never got physio on any of these injuries....i am now 22, and i have attented a gym 2 - 3 times a week since late November and next season i want to resume playing rugby, i was wondering if you would imagine there is any perminant damage done to my knees? I never really feel pain in my right1 and very rarely in my left, and it's never much more than a twinge. I can run fine, but there still seems to be fluid in the knees, does this mean they are probably to weak for contact sport? I only do 1 leg exercise in the gym when i lie on my back and push weight up with my feet, i can manage about 3x12 reps of that at 40kg, but my legs feel week when i do it....and what exercise's in or out of the gym can be done to strengthen them? All advise would be helpfull thanks.

Also, im seeing a "exercise planner" in the gym in 2 weeks, and i will ask him also, but in the meen time i would like to begin to build them back up.

I just suffered a knee injury in taekwon do training where I sprained the medial ligament in my left knee and also slightly tore the tendon that joins the hamstring to the back of the knee. It's that latter injury that's taking the longest to heal, and without the physio I'm getting, I doubt that I'd be recovering as well as I am.

The level of discomfort I'm still experiencing surprises me as this injury is two moths old now and I was walking without crutches within a week and a half of the injury. Yet I still have limited mobility in the knee. A main probelm with me now is that the quads in my leg have weakened and I need to strengthen them back up, so that they can take the stress off the rest of the knee.

I have a male friend, who's an excellent soccer player, but he's repeatedly damaged his cruciate. He's had surgery on it, but it's reached the stage where he can't play sports anymore. The knee could go at any time. The reason, he never left it heal properly anytime an injury occurred.

My advice is to go to a physio. If you're in college, there is often a college physio who would be cheaper to visit. They can assess the knee, and see if there is still residual weakness. If so, they can advise you on a course of exercise to strengthen the knee. Since you appear to have had some serious injuries, I won't recommend anything for you, but will recommend a visit to a professional. The knee is a far too complicated and vital joint to leave untreated.

Ya, I suppose i'll have to go to physio to be safe before i start to play again....:( wasn't what i wanted to hear though, but that was always gonna be the outcome...scary to hear about your friend also, but thanks for the advice :)

It might be off topic but I have an anoying twinge in my right hip it started to get better after a few months. I had blood tests taken and they told me it wasn't arthritis. The pain started coming back from I think from sleeping in a softer bed. I would just like to know whether I should go to a orthopod or a physio???
