Ok, I ran across this quiz whilst browsing.
I don't take it too seriously, its along the lines of what is your politic belief site a few weeks back.
Premise is it's supposed to figure out what religion you agree with (as distinct from the one you actually belong to (or don't)).

    http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html

    Top Five

    1. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (100%)
    2. Bahá'í (97%)
    3. Eastern Orthodox (88%)
    4. Roman Catholic (88%)
    5. Islam (87%)

    Bottom Five
    23. Scientology (22%)
    24. New Age (20%)
    25. Atheism and Agnosticism (20%)
    26. Secular Humanism (18%)
    27. Taoism (15%)

Which is very embaressing for me, for being a Catholic and only getting 4th place.
Oh well, at least I get to wear a nice black suit all the time. smile.gif

Very good survy, What i found most funny was that fact that Roman Catholic was no. 27... lol. My grany would die if she found out. Anyway i wonder what she would get.. hehe... biggrin.gif.

Universial UNitarianism was at the top... Very wrong... Unitarianism is practically the offical religion of the UN... I mean almost everyone is a unitarian in some shape or form....

Neo-Paganism was no. 3... No suprises there
Sikhism was only no. 16... that was somewhat of a suprise...

The biggest shocker was Liberial Protestant at no. 5.......

Oh well it only had 20 Questions with a possible 3 choices for everyone u choose...
More Detail would bring more accuracy..

small note... phaxx. Although u may see yourself as an Atheist U probably have a fairly high level of Ethics and have somewhat a high level of spirituality Considering that u had Neo-Paganism and Buddishism above it... It isn't a Religion survy. Its a Beliefs survy...

    Still its fun.
I would love to see a hardcore catholic do it biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

It's an interesting wee test - I've not heard of many of those religions (it's not a subject I have a huge interest in and so I've never looked into it much).

Interesting. I was brought up as a Roman Catholic as well, heh.

Theravada Buddhism is the one religion I've always been attracted to in ways... It helps that it's not a religion as much as a code and set of beliefs about how life should be led, I guess.

Very interesting. I notice a strong similarity between a lot of people on Boards, not for the first time.

    My list:

    1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
    2. Secular Humanism (95%)
    3. Liberal Protestant (88%)
    4. Liberal Quaker (85%)
    5. Atheism and Agnosticism (78%)
    6. Theravada Buddhism (64%)
    7. Bahá'í (61%)
    8. Neo-Paganism (59%)
    9. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (56%)
    10. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (55%)
    11. Reform Judaism (47%)
    12. Jehovah's Witness (45%)
    13. Conservative Protestant (44%)
    14. New Thought (41%)
    15. Taoism (41%)
    16. New Age (40%)
    17. Sikhism (39%)
    18. Mahayana Buddhism (34%)
    19. Scientology (33%)
    20. Hinduism (29%)
    21. Orthodox Quaker (29%)
    22. Eastern Orthodox (27%)
    23. Islam (27%)
    24. Jainism (27%)
    25. Orthodox Judaism (27%)
    26. Roman Catholic (27%)
    27. Seventh Day Adventist (25%)

Which is OK as I probably would have used secular humanist to describe myself. The first category is too much of a "catch all".

Arf, I've always said to those who'd listen, that 90% of Irish "roll-your-own" Catholics would be a lot more comfortable with the beliefs and values of the Church of Ireland than those of the Catholic church, if they'd could break through the mental block most seem to have on the subject. I think for a lot of people:

    Catholic = true, green, Irish
    Protestant = tan

    Which is nonsense, of course.

Ok, some VERY odd results smile.gif

I filled in all the questions according to what I believe in but the outcome surprised me quite a bit.

    Top six...
Atheism & Agnosticism seems a little low down. Secular Humanism is a bit more like it. Nearly everyone seems to have Unitarian Universalism (characterised by 'diverse beliefs') as their No. 1 though.

    1. Unitarian Universalism (100%)
    2. Liberal Protestant (97%)
    3. Secular Humanism (93%)
    4. Liberal Quaker (89%)
    5. Neo-Paganism (69%)
    6. Atheism and Agnosticism (69%)

    21. Islam (27%)
    22. Orthodox Judaism (27%)
    23. Jainism (25%)
    24. Seventh Day Adventist (24%)
    25. Hinduism (20%)
    26. Eastern Orthodox (19%)
    27. Roman Catholic (19%)

No surprises there really. Mammy and Daddy won't be too pleased about No. 27 though smile.gif

    Biggest surprise
    8. Latter-day Saint (Mormon) (66%) (Yeah, right!)

Still, accurate enough I suppose. Interesting to find out what all the religions actually were.

I suppose it's based on Americans; I've heard catholicism has many flavours. The test is fairly short and has a distinct Christian bias, IMHO.

Plus Catholics are in the majority here; this is not true in the states and would probably lead to a different cultural identity.

Any atheists wondering why atheism doesn't come up for them? It's probably in the section asking how you feel your religion should deal with issues such as gender roles, abortion etc. As these don't concern atheism, an answer would be "Not applicable" with low priority.

For some strange reason, beliefnet.com buy lots of advertising on atheism.about.com It's always funny to see a pop-up saying "Join the search for Jesus" tongue.gif

    I find it rather interesting!
No suprise to me that Roman Catholic is at the bottom.
But mostly, I don't understand most of the religions here anyway, so it's of no consequence to me.

But I'm kinda pleased to see Neo-Paganism ranking highly there.
I'm just thinking it's a pity Satanism isn't up there...
Would've liked to see where that one ranked.

I doubt I'm even 18% Catholic, as I don't believe in the bible nor the catholic god...but ok, I'll take it along with the rest.

    What an odd little quiz.

Beliefnet has more than a slight Christian bias - they bought a load of advertising space on an atheist forum I'm on inviting us to "Join the search for Jesus"

I still can't get them to put his picture on milk cartons, I think that would help...

Yeah, I did notice that slight bias...
And ya know, when people ask me to find Jesus I adopt a nice, blank stare and say "Why, is he lost?"

And all this bedarned "WWJD" crap that can be found on every t-shirt, street corner, gumball machine, etc...I usually reply "Throw his hands up in resignation and have a beer."

    Milk cartons...now THAT'S a good idea...
"Call this hotline if you find Jesus! 1-900-426-3328 (1-900-IAMFEKT) and for an extra $15.99 a minute get your personal report on whether you're going to heaven or, you know, the other place!"
