    Ikiru
I'll second the vote for The Killing and Paths of Glory which was mentioned earlier

A sh!tload of film noir (anyone else a big fan of this genre) like:
    The Asphalt Jungle
    The Big Sleep
    D.O.A.
    Double Indemnity
    Out of the past
    The Set-Up
    Sunset Boulevard
    Sweet Smell of Success

    And some more modern films:

Bang Bang, You are Dead - like Elephant but better
    Dirty Pretty Things
    F#cking Åmål
    The Iron Giant
    Lantana
    Memories of Murder
    Network
    Roger Dodger
    Sleuth
    Dead Man

    Buster Keaton - The General
    Charlie Chaplin - City Lights

I'd better stop there before I just basically list my favourite seldom seen films.

    I see it's on TG4 tonight (Wednesday).

Anyone know what the differences are between the original and this cut?

I really felt that About Schmidt starring Jack Nicholson deserved more attention. Much of the criticism I heard was along the lines of:
    God, that was awful depressing!
    or
He was still Jack, I suppose, but he wasn't being his usual Jack the Lad...
There is humour in this film in spades. And Nicholson is brilliant.

Also, check out Sexy Beast, starring Ray Winstone. It was directed by Jonathan Glazer who I think directed Radiohead's "Street Spirit" vid. The film is:
    Fandabadozee- tastic

it seems that women need to be notified about a certain little movie called:
    Ferris Bueller's Day Off!!!

i say this as only one girl i have ever mentioned it to has seen it (and she was american so doesn't really count)

Excellent movie, it's an absolute classic.

    Em...
    the ones I'd recommend seeing that most haven't would be;

    Crazy / Beautiful
    The Breakfast Club

And recently, the Garden State, bit different but I really liked it.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

The film "happiness" is brilliant... although slightly disturbing!

Sorry forgot it stated 'rent' in the title. As you can guess I didn't rent it!

Do when it comes out though ;)

Eternal Sunshine was good...a bit over rated though, i think anyway.

The Royal Tenanbaums - seen this months ago and thought it was hilarious, but hardly anyone Ive mentioned it to have seen it!!
My 3rd favourite movie of all time. My old sig used to be "Life Moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Which I would have kept, but I wanted a family guy one.

Anyway, Underrated movie- Detroit Rock City- If you like 70s rock, this is the movie for you. Great movie. Could have been funnier, but other thasn that it's great.

Warriors ('come out to play eee aay')
Sixteen candles (angsty girl version of Ferris Buellers...)
Labrynth (Bowies codpiece, muppets and the very pretty Jennifer Connelly)

God I thought the Royal Tenanbaums was bloody awful. Good cast wasted. What a waste of my time.

    Excellent Film

I would add anything by Jim Jaramusch.
Dancer in the Dark (opinions on this film divided by I hate / I love camps generally)
    The Sweet Hereafter.
    To Kill a Mockingbird.
    Anything Hitchcock.

Once watched To Kill a Mockingbird and Rear Window double header in an old-timey style cinema down under and it was such a treat.
