What the Packers were playing at I'll never know. The Vikings were awful, Moss looked like he was 50% at best yet Harris couldn't handle him. Time for a big shake up at Green Bay. Will Farve come back for another year of that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 367 ✭✭40crush41

    J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS
first away playoff win in 20 years :o heh

not thinking they're going all the way quite yet, take it nice and slow and get by them steelers first. hey, u never know! =)

Just as long as its not the Pats -can't let Boston have any more celebrations this year... Bosox winning the Series should be enough to keep em happy in Beantown for a lifetime.

It would be a shame for Brett to go out with that being his last performance. I reckon he'll be back for one more season.

Fingers crossed because the packers might be stuck for a QB, they have like a 20+ 1st round pick in the 2005 draft...

    p.s Go Packers!

Go Jets good win; The rest seemed to follow as expected

    Next week:
    Jets @ Steelers
    Rams @ Falcons
    Vikings @ Eagles
Colts @ Pats <<<<<<< What a cracker this is going to be; winner will win the whole thing

My picks: Steelers, Falcons, Eagles, Colts

cant see their being any suprises in next week matches.

    so its
    steelers
    falcons
    eagles
this is a very hard one, i can see colts winning but i cant see them winning the superbowl, so i dunno. i stick with colts.

Maybe, just maybe the Colts will beat New England. Going to New England and winning is a big task but possibly they can pull it off.

However, going to the Steelers a week after New England and winning is a massive task. There's not a chance they are going on the road two weeks in a row, to the best two teams in the league and winning both. Not a chance.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,352 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

    I reckon it'll be:

Steelers - unfortunately it doesn't matter who the Jets drew because they'll be murdered anyway. At least they won't go out to the Patriots.
    Falcons
    Eagles
Patriots - I think home-field advantage will be the deciding factor, but it'll be tight

Pats colts match will be awesome, but as i die-hard Pats fan i see them clinching it, if their on-form and new england is mighty cold this time of year. 2 in a row baby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭ionapaul

Funking Pats-Colts match on last on Sunday, how am I going to see it? Watched 3 of 4 last weekend in a friends house, we both have money on the Colts for the rings, I have €30 at 7/1, he has €50 at 6/1.

Putting aside my feelings for the Colts, I think the Steelers are the most likely to win it - a relatively easy match this weekend, follwed by playing a good team that gave its all the week before and therefore has to be tired, and so on to the Superbowl.

I do think that the Colts are the only team that played last weekend with a shot of winning this week. The Jets and Rams looked very poor to me, and I missed the Packers-Vickings match.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

the vikings werent great, packers were terrible. they gave up 4 interceptions and previous to that match i think they only gave up 11 all season.

moss might be injured now as well, he was hobbling very badly against the packers(still managed a td though) so he will be a big loss.

he a needs to get a hair cut along with the rest of his cronies.

The Packers had 19 ints in the reg season, 22nd in the league.

I disagree. They have Nall and O'Sullivan. Both had success in NFLE.

    Steelers

    eagles
    colts

O'Sullivan is a joke but at least Nall has an arm. A pretty weak class for QB's on the face of it this year but you never know with the draft how things will turn out.

As for the playoffs, i'm thinking...

Falcons over the Rams by 10
Eagles over the Vikings by 6
    PLEASE GOD PLEASE GOD
Patriots over the Colts by 3
Steelers over the Jets by 14

I don't know about the last one though. My head says steelers win by that but i have a feeling in my gut that the NEW YORK J-E-T-S manage to do somehting here. Ah well.

    Championship games

Eagles over the Falcons by 17
Patriots over the Steelers by 3

and the SUPERBOWL (party of the year in lucan on that night).......

EAGLES OVER THE PATRIOTS 17 - 14!!! GO ON THE BIRDS!!!!!!!

Flappity Flappity all the way back to the linc¬!

Ha, I'll probably be watching at a friend's house in Lucan on Superbowl night as well! Though we'll be cheering for the Colts against the Eagles I think :)

    Pats 31 Colts 24
    Steelers 23 Jets 14
    Vikings 31 Eagles 17
    Falcons 38 Rams 10

    Championships
    Steelers 19 Pats 16
    Falcons 27 Vikings 17

    Superbowl (also in Lucan!!)
    Steelers 38 Falcons 27

P.S. Probably have to revise these on Monday!

    AHHHHHHHHHH DOUG BRIEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
(mutter mutter mutter mutter mutter mutter)

*sigh* well, great game anyway -i mean, what can u expect? first of all, they are playing on a field where they havn't won in the last 40 years, they are playing the best team in football fighting them in overtime -coming off two overtime games in a row (we're the first team to play 3 overtime games in a row. exciting) and they only lost by 3.
just wished doug brien didn't waste those beautiful inteceptions with two missed field goals.. in two minutes... ahh, thought my heart would stop..

and then theres my father who has followed this team since the days of the great Joe Namath.. who listened to them win the 3rd superbowl on his radio because his mother took him to an ice skating show instead.. who still buys season tickets and then watches his team come this close year after year.. and who still chants proudly around the house
    J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!
ah yes, and this is why im proud to be a jet fan :)

well, thanks for a great season boys, hope for next year.

and LETS GO COLTS! Kick those Pats real good!!!

    So near, and yet...

At least my fears that the Jets would be mauled by the Steelers were unfounded. Great performance, hopefully they can do even better next season.

Need the Colts to win tomorrow to salvage something from the weekend.

    Hi everyone :)

I'm a NFL n00b, but I was watching the re-run of the playoffs on Sky this afternoon, and have a couple of questions about the game.

What does "1st and Ten" mean, also what are other examples of this kind of thing - would "2nd and Eight" make sense?

Also, it seems to be Fox coverage on Sky, what are the yellow and blue lines that appear on the screen accross the pitch.

From watching the game, I think the Falcons and the Rams - (would that be right?) I think I have the general gist of what the object of the game is, but I want to know one thing.

How many times does each team get to do that "throw the ball back to the guy who picks out a pass or runs with it" thing, before the other team gets posession?

Cheers for any answers I might get.

Eh hello, unless I've not been paying attention for the last 10 years a team only gets 4 attempts to get ten years and a new first down. Reading back you explained it right but your counting is sub standard ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 367 ✭✭40crush41

not that it makes much of a difference, but you only have 4 tries, not 5. if the team is 4 and 12, say on the 40 yard line, and tries to go those 12 yards but fail to do so, then the ball is given over to the other team on the 40. usually then a team will punt on their fourth try since punts are not a given.

"throw the ball back to the guy who picks out a pass or runs with it"
and to simplify that for you, thats a snap to the quarterback =)

it is a confusing sport, buged my like crazy when i was a kid watching the teams run out-of-bounds and then still have possesion of the ball...

    Thanks for answers people!

Now I can watch the game with a little less :confused:

But I have some more questions, if you all don't mind.

So, the team gets four chances to go ten yards, that I understand, but what would a team do if they were, say, ten yards inside their own half(?) and were on "4th and Ten".

    1. Try to get the Quarterback to throw it forty yards and hope someone catches it and runs to get a Touchdown?

In which case, say the guy catches it, and is then tackled, does it go back to "1st and Ten" at the point where the tackle was made?

Say the guy doesn't catch it, and someone on the defending team does, can he then run as far as he can to get his team started on a "1st and Ten". Would his team then become the attacking team on a 2nd or 1st?

    2. Try to kick a field goal?

If they miss the field goal, which team starts play, and from where?

And finally, how is the game restarted after a Touchdown?

Depending on the time thats left in the game, and the points that their winning/losing by they might go for this option, although generally instead of throwing the ball 40+ yards the QB'll just go for the 10 yards to get the 1st down.

But this generally only happens in the last two minutes of either half and if the team in possesion is losing.
In which case, say the guy catches it, and is then tackled, does it go back to "1st and Ten" at the point where the tackle was made?

If he made over ten yards then yes
Say the guy doesn't catch it, and someone on the defending team does, can he then run as far as he can to get his team started on a "1st and Ten". Would his team then become the attacking team on a 2nd or 1st?

Yes he can this is called an interception, when he gets tackled his team starts from that point on first and 10.
    2. Try to kick a field goal?

If they miss the field goal, which team starts play, and from where?

They could but generally the maximum distance that a field goal is kicked from is 55 yards from the goalposts, from the 38 yard line in the opposisions half. This is the 38 to the end-zone, the 10 yards from the end-zone to the posts, and around seven yards from the snap to the holder. This is generally the maximum distance a field goal will be attempted from.

If the attepmt failed the game restarts with the defending team on offence from the point the ball was snapped from.
And finally, how is the game restarted after a Touchdown?

The team that scores kicks off to the other team

My boys did it hell yeah, manning looked like a high school quarter back out there. Hello yeah next weeks games are gonna be absoutly awsome, the four teams i think deserve to be there are there, no fluke upsets although the jets game was mighty close.

    So then conferance games

    Falcons @ Eagles
    Patriots @ Steelers

    Predictions???

As an avid hater of all things Manning, I'm very glad to see The Colts get knocked out. However to state Manning looked like a high school QB is an unfair comment. His poor numbers for the game were the result of excellent coverage by the New England defence. Really was a great team performance. To hold the best offence in the league to 3 pts is a fantastic achievement and is down to New England's brilliance not a poor display by Manning.

I've had money on The Steelers since Week 8 and I was confident of seeing a nice profit until this weekend. That New England performance combined with Pittsburg's unconvincing win against The Jets doesn't have me brimming with confidence. If any team can beat New England it's The Steelers. It's gonna be a very low scoring game and will come down to the kickers. I think the Patriots experiance in big crunch matches will just about see them through. Gonna be a cracker, the real Superbowl.

To be honest couldn't care less about the other game. Whoever wins will be destroyed at The Superbowl. I'd say The Eagles will finally reach the big one.

Right so ill give you that one, i was just very excited. Iwatched the game with three mates who all had bets with me, that the colts would win. So sweet watching their faces drop as the colts offence failed time and time again to shift the ball downfield, then get a decent drive going before halftime, being confident during the halftime, then destroyed as teddy and the D boys tore manning et al. a new a-hole.

    :(

No Superbowl payday for me this year. Colts just didn't have it in the end.

    My predictions:

    Eagles over Falcons
    Pats over Steelers

    Pats to win Superbowl

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

As all before - Eagles vs Patriots (my 2 teams!!) , Patriots to win. I think I'd prefer to see Philly get their day but that aint gonna happen if the Patriots maintain this kind of defensive form...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 367 ✭✭40crush41

    LETS GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Down with the Pats!!!

Go on my SUPER SUPER SUPER IGGLES!!!!!!! Donnie you are a god! Westy you're one too! Trotter BAM thats a hit! What a great performance by the eagles. It's gonna be a lot harder against the Falcons but in the Linc, and with JJ organising those insanely confusing blitz schemes, Vick may be feeling sick come the end of the game (corniest line ever!!!)

    Predictions....

    Steelers 7
    Patriots 13

    Eagles 24
    Falcons 17

    Patriots 21
Eagles 24 - Akers kicks the winner as time expires to prove he's better than AV!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭The_Bullman

I'm going to go with the Falcons over the Eagles - just to be different :)

I'd say their running game will prove too strong for Philly to handle. Plus, they've got the Michael Vick factor. Even if the Eagles pick everyone off that just leaves it open for him to run.

For the AFC game I'd pick the Patriots. The way their defence adapted to the colts last week along with Roethlisberger's poor showing last week swayed me on this one. I'd love to see the Steelers win though. Maybe the rookie qb will prove me wrong
