I can't believe what I read on the above page. America talks about being the cradle of democracy and liberty in the modern world, and they attempt to jail someone for criticising a glorified cult!?

    Talk about hypocrasy (sp?)

Tom Cruise is a member of the church of scientology and "donates" half his salary to them.

religion man is just a control mechanism.

    Two quotes:

Religion is an opiate for the masses.

Poor is the man who's pleasures depend on the permission of another.

A number of other top Hollywood figures are also supporters of L. Ron Hubbard's "religion" (its a fvcking cult), such as John Travolta, who even made a (flop) movie based on one of Hubbard's ramblings - Battlefield: Earth I think it was.

I just read Hobbes post on the other thread .. and his experience was pretty much identical to mine except he went one step further. :)

Basically the book cost 5 pounds and if I didn't buy the book I wasn't gonna get to leave for a lonnng time. There was a guy at the door, just standing there. There was another guy talking to some man who had followed him in but seemed quite interested in the subject, and then there was the guy who had brought me in, and moi.

The room was lined with book cases with this book - Dianetics by Lron Hubbard. Thinking about it now, I also gave them my name, address and tel (mobile) number. Oh God. :)

I'm 18, female and quite petite and this guy was towering over me in this office, asking me weird questions about my feelings, to which I gave monosyllabic answers. I was quite taken aback and basically the easiest thing to do was to buy the book.. so I did.

Mine doesn't have two chapter 11's as far as I can see, Hobbes. :)

Last time I was on that street the Scientologists seemed to have moved out of the office.. and they've never contacted me, thankfully.

Okay end of my story .. :)

Scientology only declared itself a churh after a congressional inquiry was launched into their finances and pratices. Accountants donned dog colors and hey preto! a hurch was born.

    L. Ron Hubburb, the poor untalanted hack, disowned scientlogy before his eath condemning them as con-artists. BUt they still own the copy right to his work and have gone to great lenghts to cover up (by purchasing) everything negetive he wrote about them.

Germany (now this gets funny) has banned scientology members from taking state jobs or serving in any public state role. Reason: Its a cult deemed dangerous and subversive to the state.

Scientology posted adverts in peominent news papers world wide with pictures of Cruise and Goldie Hawn and a cast of other hollywood heads with text the claimed the German action was simular to how theytreated the jews. The jews WENT NUTS! The whole thing back fired and the Jewish lobby through their considerable weight behind the German Government. Debate over, scientlogy lost.

And "Battlefield Earth" written by Hubbard was financed by Scientology (Travolta is one), who spend millions buying cinema tickets to insure its success. $200 million plus later they are still counting the cost of tha turkey, not to mention the cost of the cinema tickets (ha ha).

I have a post on the same thread that Hobbes links to above, my experience of the office on Abbey St. was similar. They pretty much try to make you feel small and insecure then give you a way out through them. Not a good thing.

I would be wary of buying the book at any place that requires your name+address.

A friend of mine went in and took some test ... they guy who was marking it came and asked him was he deliberly trying to anoy him !!!! apartly he had the strangest result !!!!!! i'd personaly love to see how they would handle me and my personality .. probably like most other people ... with a big stick !!!!

as for saying it wouldn't work on me and then being a prime candidate i dont' think that would work .... i've got too much invested in my own personality for anyone to start messing around with it .

still they are a bit strange .. i personaly like Holy Mary ( O'connell st.) pitty she is gone now frown.gif always enjoyed her targeting little nippers ( 13 -15) and trying to put the fear of god into them ...

well before i go completely off topic i'll go.

The test is designed to give a bad profile regardless of what you answer.

However there is a "Perfect" score in the test which can only be done by lying. The answers to the test are on the net somewhere. It's possible he hit that, or near to it. As when they see that they tend to believe that your a plant rather then someone they can convert.

The test will allways say you need help with your personality for a better living.

Anyway I was in The Scientoligist Capital of the world in Clearwater, Florida.
Over there you can pick up the book for free pity the box containing them all was empty and the only way you could get one was to go in to their "church"(brainwashing room) which i wasn't going to do me being 14 and easily persuaded.
But I did sign up on a sheet with my name, age, address etc....... and about twice a year i receive a news letter telling me about how i need help, next time i will get one i will post the information here should it be significant.

A lot of what happend in the interview alone (which I wasn't expecting) is detailed in thier first book including ways to make the person your interrogating ill at ease.

But the book is crap otherwise.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,341 ✭✭✭Koopa

hahaha, 2 scientologists (i think they were, anyway) came up to me once in st. stephens green, asking me if i would take a leaflet or something, i nearly told them to **** off (haha) but instead just no, they were persistent though, and asked if i believed in religion or not, at this point i just said no i didnt, then one of them said something about whether i would reconsider if i knew id be damned for ever if i didnt, i said "no, i dont care", and walked off without bothering to see if they were going to come up with a response or not, i dont see how they could keep that conversation alive at that point actually, without looking really stupid in public, walking backwards while talking to me, haha

when i see them on the street i try to keep a 'buffer person' between them and me at all times.
