Im hoping Martin O Neill has some players lined up ready to sign on the dotted line when the transfer window re-opens in January, our dismal failure in Europe can be attributed to a lack of overall quality in the side..Celtic need at the least a defender and an midfielder, someone like Maniche from Porto would be an ideal signing, or Guti of Real Madrid would be a welcome addition..also i hope O Neill sorts out the contracts of Hartson and co,we cannOt afford to lose our best players and allow the huns to get ahead of us..here`s to 2005 with renewed optimism..HAIIL HAIL...........

I don't think maniche or guti would go to celtic tbh. Cetainly not guti as hes currently playing for madrid. It'd be a big step down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭valor

Why would Guti or Maniche sign for Celtic? They are both champions league winners...as nice as the premise sounds there is just no way.

O'Neill has no money either..all he can do is sign loan players or try and get players out of contract

Never say never gentlemen, and i believe some funds will be made available to O Neill to sign some players,to hell with these loan signings..Camara hasnt done the business and has proved to be an expensive mistake,we need quality in the side,Maniche would be an inspired signing....... ;)

it would be lucky if ONeill got 3 Million in January. And I doubt if he would spend it on one player... and i doubt Maniche would join.

With the players getting older e.g Lennon. He will definity have to look for a replacement for him asap.

Celtic have been linked with the following: Alan Maybury (Hearts and Ireland Defender), Derek Riordan(Hibs forward).. Burton O`Brien (Livingston Midfielder) and Juanjo (Inverness midfielder) to name a few.

And that is probably the highest level of talent 'we' will get in January. :(

I wouldnt waste the money on Guti, I dont rate him at all.

Maniche would be great for Celtic !! :)

Guti is a really fantastic player imo, way way too fantastic for Celtic :)
Maniche, lads lets be serious :)
ONeill is a great manager, and he should bring in 10 quality youth players to build up a team from scratch.

I hope United off load and then buy.
    Players I can see leaving
O'Shea(hopefully on loan to newcastle or something)
Dembja Dembja is going to be gone
Kleberson(loan hopefully, but he might get us some cash as he is rated internationally)
Bellion(I like him, but he just isn't going to get in the squad, maybe loan once again but even still)

I think this could bring in about 10 million or so, if say 3 of the players are sold, and I'm sure Fergie has something in mind, specifically a def midfielder to eventually replace Keane :) Something he has been searching for for the last two years

It's not so much that his performances haven't been good but rather the fact that he's not commited to Celtic Football Club. He's on record as saying that Celtic aren't good enough for him. Also, Celtic have a clause in the loan deal they did with Wolves giving them to option to buy Camara for £5 million. Given our financial woes, I doubt we'll be splashing out on him.

In my opinion though, Juninho has proved to be the flop, he's the highest earner (£50,000 a week supposedly) in the squad but has been unable to unseat McGeady on the left wing. He should battle for his place in the squad rather than have a moan at O' Neill.

I think we're better off doing away with mercenary types like Camara and Juninho and rather focus our efforts on nurturing more McGeady's and Miller's.

Well I can see Arsenal & United trying to sign Goalkeepers and United also need to get a decent defensive midfielder.

Newcastle have to sign a couple of defenders and they have the cash to do it. Typically for them there are rumours they are looking for another striker

Everton need to strenghten their squad if they want to keep the momentum going that they have and again they have the readies to do so.

Liverpool again have to sign a forward and maybe look at a defender or two.

Chelsea don't need anyone but will sign someone anyway.

Villa well O'Leary said on the interview on Motd the other night he wants 4 players. He only has £6 million at most so I cannot see him managing that with the money available. Maybe Doug will get a bit of Chrissie spirit and give Dave a few quid to spend for Christmas :)

WBA need a new team :D

Norwich need some luck, they are getting too good at rattling the woodwork.

Bolton need to purchase a parachute.

Liverpool are looking likely to get Aimar.
I think he is an absolutely outstanding player and if he was purchased I think Gerrard would be very very happy.
However I don't htink he'd fit into the current side at liverpool.

p.s. I want fergie to buy him for united :)

I for one think he is overrated. People think he the dogs balls even though he has never really achieved that much, and has always been in and out of the Valencia/Argentina team for one reason or another.

Still though, quality players are always welcome, you would have to wonder though what would happen to Luis Garcia if Aimar was signed?

as much as id like to see another ronaldo on the left for utd or another rio to partner.....well rio in centre back i think it's dangerous to tamper with players midway through a season.

utd in particular have been unsettled (starting 11 wise) and have just settled down the past few games and their 1st 11 is now: carroll, heinze, g neville, silvestre, ferdinand, giggs, ronaldo, scholes, keane, rooney, van nistelrooy.

youve got the likes of saha, smith, pneville, miller, brown and fletcher all being dipped in and out of the side and to add more to either of those lists would break the camels back in terms of everyone being content to stay and fight for their place.

its sad to see howard being frozen out but hopefully he'll return to the 1st team soon, he's a good keeper and we'll struggle to find better one should we look for a new one. atm carroll is doing a fantastic job and utd would be stupid to put it lightly to go and buy a new 1st choice keeper, even 2nd choice. 2nd best defensive record in the league, currently 4th in the league, its not the defence that the problem.

based on our defence, we should be 2nd, that tells you it's at the other end we have the problem although atm we dont as utd are in cruise control and have the best recent form in the league 19/21pts last 7 games. weve crept up on arsenal the past month (4pts between us now) and based on our recent form it wont be long before we over-take them.

we might need to strengthen our squad, nows not the time. murinho has the same attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

well arsenal brought in reyes mid season and the young attacking blood really helped them, united could do the same.

A young left winger or attacking midfielder could really add a bit of flare to uniteds attack, which is now getting very effective, but is very very boring imo.
Its a simple pass pass pass pass easy shot goal normally for united, and a bit of flare would be welcome.

Word is that Pool will bid for James Beattie, Redknapp is certain to loose him and I think a strong forward like Beattie could work well with Baros.

He'll definitely go, although Everton and Aston Villa might disagree that'll he'll be a Liverpool player. £7.5 million seems a bit steep though, he hasn't exactly set the Premier League alight this season either.

Yes but with a bidding war likely to happen , transfer prices increase from £6 million(about what he's worth) to £7.5 million very easily .

If Maniche is going to the UK it'll be to Man Utd, they've made at least two enquiries since the summer.

Yeah I can see that happening alright. He would be a good player to tighten the midfield up a bit. But does David Gill really mean what he says about no funds being available?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭kida

Didn't Gill say no money was available without selling first.

Expect O'Shea and Djemba X 2 to go. Kelberson and Bellion would go to but Kleb is injured and Belllion is needed as there is a striker shortage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Bannor

Yes, Gill did say that the club had no money to spend but Ferguson has been told that if they are in a position to challenge for the title in January and he needs to strengthen the team then the money will be made available - they don't want a repeat of the "we don't need a temporary replacement for Ferdinand" fiasco. Ferguson wants a midfielder and a goalkeeper.

David Gill is a lot more shrewd than Smeagol Kenyon, he makes it known publicly that the club have no money, then when the club go looking for a player they don't get quoted the abnormally high transfer fees because they are Manchester United. Smeagol on the other hand has taken the old Man Utd transfer policy to Chelsea... get the player's head turn with the offer of an outrageous contract through an agent, then approach the club after unsettling the player with a few well placed media stories - "Hello, I'm Smeagol Kenyon from Chesea FC how much do you want for your player?". Chelsea can outbid any club in the Premiership so now Man Utd have to be much smarter in the way they approach players.

There will be players sold at United next year but I don't think they'll all be offloaded in January. O'Shea, Djemba-Djemba and Bellion are on the list of outgoing players. Giggs could well be replaced in the summer, Valencia have been asked about Vicente. There's a rumour that Scholes is going to Oldham in the summer.

Ill be surprised if Arsenal, Chelsea or Man utd bring in some new big names.

Arsenal have already signed Eboue who is from the ivory coast and a player in the mould of Kolo Toure. I think he is a right back but can probably play centre half. 21 and highly rated by Wenger so hopefully that might put an end to cygan being used.

    Liverpool will get Morienties.

Scholes feels he needs to move to a bigger club .

Babyaro is going to Newcastle when the transfer window opens .(that means Bernard will prtobably leave) .

What we really need is a centre back and the person ive wanted us to sign for ages is Paulo Cannovaro of Parma(not to be confused with his brother Fabio) ,Parma have always been a selling club and I think the club could easily get him if they put in similiar bids to that they offered for Boumsong £8 million .

I would also love to see Dyer offloaded , he bring in a good transfer fee , and he could be easily replaced , and maybe he doesn't even need to be replaced as there are plenty of players that could fill his roll .

Spurs to offload deadwood. Redknapp and Richards are both on decent money, so free transfers for the two should give Jol a few quid to spend in wages. Rohan Ricketts is alledgedly on the way out as well (sorry to see him go, he's a livewire)

We badly need to buy a winger, and all the speculation points to Wilhelmson at Anderlecht. I don't believe that will happen in the window, there's too much agent talk involved for my liking.

I'd also be looking for CB cover, I really don't rate Anthony Gardner, and we need to be thinking in terms of a replacement for Naybet who'll ahrdly last another season.

Of our three strikers, if any leave it will be Keane. He just doesn't work with the other two, and I don't expect Chelski to come calling for Defoe until the Summer, at which stage I hope we'll have a had a good league run which might tempt him to stick around for another season.

I won't be surprised to see either ManYoo or the Gooners signing a keeper, with Given and Green both a possibility.

Everton will spend, reckon they'll buy three (Robbie Keane very likely).

Newcastle will spend, and regret it in six months when they have another new manager...

Villa will give O'Leary a shiny mirror and some beads to sign the four players he needs. He'll still be harping on about his babies no doubt...

There seems to be a lot of talk of Morientes going to Liverpool but when Beattie didn't get a place in the squad against them it was almost a confirmation that they had a solid bid in for him. The only other possibility would be to protect your prospective sale from injury and even then I think Beattie would have been worth a place on the bench.

I think they were just trying to protect their prospective sale as opposed to there being any interest from Liverpool. On the other hand though I think I did see a link between Biscan and Henchoz going to Southampton - it wouldn't be the first time we've offloaded crap on Harry Redknapp with perhaps Beattie forming part of a swap... interesting.

Celtic have already signed two players from KR Reykjavik, Feyenoord were also interested in both and Arsenal were close to signing one of them a few months ago.

'Speaking to journous after receiving an award for Icelandic sportsperson of the year, Eidur Gudjohnsen tipped Celtic youngster Kjartan Henry Finnbogason to go on to be one of Icelands best ever player. "There are quite many promising Icelandic youngsters around at the moment but the one I feel has an extremely bright future is Finnbogaon. I know Chelsea and Arsenal kept a close eye on him and were interested. Many say he is better than I was at his age, its not my role to judge but I think he'll be a full international fairly soon".'

There's also a 16 year old Canadian who should be arriving in Glasgow this month. He signed in the summer but had to wait until he was 16 to officially join.

Liverpool U-17 top scorer last season, 17 year old midfielder John Paul "Joxer" Kelly is coming to Celtic for a trial too. He left Liverpool because of homesickness but since he's back to Britain so quickly there must have been more to it. He's highly rated in Ireland and Britain and its basically up to him if he wants to join Celtic.

Two players from the SPL being strongly linked are striker Derek Riordan of Hibs and full back Stevie Hammell of Motherwell.

We've been linked with a number of Italian based players also.

I think it's fairly well known that Scholes is Diabetic, and this does infact mean that he can't stay at the top flight for as long as a lot of midfielders, it would be pretty hard to him to keep trying to play at this level at 32-33.

Also it's fairly well known that he is oldham true and true, infact he was quoted as saying before that oldham getting promoted was more immportant than united getting a champions league spot, he has also stated that he hoped to play for them someday.

I don't think it will happen this summer though, maybe the season after.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

If Scholes is diabetic then it should have no bearing on his career. Gary Mabbutt proved that at Spurs years back and treatment/monitoring was'nt as good back then. Indeed his carreer was ended by "Fash the Bash" not illness.

    http://www.diabetes.org.uk/balance/198/198gary.htm

edit> Scholes is Asthmatic so ignore the above!

I played as KR Reykjavik in FM 2005 so I have expert knowledge of Henry Kjartan Finnbogason ;) , as far as I can tell(and I can't tell very far) , his main attribute is finnishing , who is a goalscoring machine .Of course all of this knowledge is based on a computer game , so the accuracy of it can be questioned .

Souness is secretly funding rangers from the premiership!
it's a joke how many rangers players he has bought at different clubs he goes to!
I'm a newcastle supporter so i may be biased about this.
but if i was the manager i would be looking to buy a defender from italy, spain or even germany! not the SPL!!!
boumsong is good but i'm sure it will take him a while to get up to the pace of the Premier league after the walk in the park he has been having up north!
Yeah Paulo Cannavaro would have been a good signing. but i believe i read that he said he never wanted to play outside italy!

In all fairness Boumsong is young and (correct me if Im wrong) a starter for the French national team. He is hardly pricey at £8M. He is big and strong too, just what Newcastle need.

Nothing to do with homesickness - more to do with a serious attitude problem. Steve Heighway reckoned that he was the most talented player at the academy but his attitude would prevent him from realising his potential.

Valencia have told defender Mauricio Pellegrino he can to talk to Liverpool and that they would allow the Argentine to move on a free transfer.

Valencia director Manuel Llorente confirmed: "Pellegrino's agent told us Liverpool are interested in the player but the move has yet to materialise.

"The player has a contract until June but we have agreed he can field offers from other clubs."

Pellegrino joined Valencia in 1999 after playing for Barcelona and helped them reach back-to-back finals in the Champions League under Hector Cuper in 2000 and 2001.

Pellegrino was also a member of the Spanish title-winning sides of 2002 and 2004, a year which included a UEFA Cup final triumph over Marseille.

Jamie Redknapp joins his old man at Southampton on a free from Spurs.

Calum Davenport joins the Saints on loan until the end of the season (which will rightly p*ss off West Ham who had himon loan until Santini left WHL)

Davenport's a good signing for Harry, he's a cracking prospect and he'll want to impress at St Mary's so that he's in the reckoning for the Spurs XI next season. I didn't see much of him at Upton Park (or Coventry before that) but all the reports I've heard suggested he was the best defender in the Championship until his loan was cut short.

Nah, Boumsong hasn't cemented a place in the French squad as it's first choice centre-back, yet. The first choice backline would be Gallas, Squillaci, Givet and Silvestre, he'd certain step in though as the next choice. If he performs at Toon then he'll certainy advance his cause.

Rangers won't be taking the full £8 million they received from Newcastle, Auxerre and Le Harve are entitled to £700,000 as they trained up Boumsong. Delicous irony especially considering that Auxerre have also taken a £2 million payout from Rangers by dumping them out of the UEFA Cup.

Lets face it, it was a fantastic deal for Boumsong and Rangers. Rangers got him for free in the summer, pay him quite a bit as a a wage and sell him for huge profit 6 months later. If he is really worth £8m now (when 6 months ago he was free), all the scouts must have been hiding during the summer.

The reason he was worth £8M in the transfer window was because he's in contract now. Between the wages he received, his signing on fee, agents fees from his signing and his cut from the transfer Rangers will have made less than £4M from the transfer.
