I was just wondering what the best time of the day was to take protein ?

    1. On the days I goto the gym (afternoon)
    2. On the days I don't.

I usually take 25grms after the gym, perhaps I should take another dose those days too ?

To be honest, unless you are seriously into bodybuilding there is no particular "best" time to be taking your protein.

What you should be looking at is the amount you are taking.

Ideally you should be taking about 2g of Protein for Kg that you weigh and you should be taking this every day.

And you should be spreading your intake throughout the day rather than just taking it at one sitting, i.e. about 3 shakes a day as well as your normal meals.

Split your daily intake into 5-6 sitting as in 25-50grams every 2-3 hours.

How much to take? Who knows some guys take over 1000 grams per day but the best bb'er in the world ronnie coleman takes in about 500 per day which sounds like a lot but at 300lbs it's like a 150lb guy taking 250. Personally 1gram per pound is a good target and 2grams would be for juicers only really.

Not body-building specific, but it's good to have protein with every meal and especially breakfast to balance out blood sugar throughout the day

    Thats a lot of protein.

Think I may double my intake to 50-60 grams a day.

TBH - I'm no bodybuilder, just don't want to waste what I do in the gym (which is mostly cardio anyway). I'm 11st7 5'11 and if I lost the excess body fat I'd probably be 11st0 so I shuldn't need that much protein yet.

You sure you only get 50-60 per day, seems low to me. At 150lbs I'd shoot for 150grams as protein is good for cardio athletes as well. Jamie Cracknell eats a fair amount of protein on a daily basis and I think it shows in his physique.

Yeah 50-60g a day is the recommended amount for a slim person who does no training, even cardiovascular training would require increasing that by 50% and weight training maybe double it.

He said 'double' to 50 or 60!? That is only 25-30 per day now that has to be a mistake??? A tin of baked beans has 20grams for example.

I think he was referring to the amount of supplements he's taking along with his regular intake of protein through normal food.
