Swimming and catching a cold

I've recently joined a gym mostly for the swimming pool. I;ve used to pool about 5 times in the last week and everytime, the following day, I've got a cold. No matter what I do (putting on a towel after swim and striaght into the boiling hot shower) I still get the cold. The pool itself isn't hot by any standard. Could this be it?

could be from going to a not so warm pool to a boiling hot shower.
    rapid temperature change.

I'd be very surprised if it was an actual cold that you had each morning as a result of the water. A cold doesn't just come and go like that.

I'd say it's more than likely that you are taking an allergic reaction to the chlorine in the water or something similar.

It might simply be that the pool isn't very clean and you're picking up a mild infection after every use.

You could ask the staff to show you the sample test results to ensure its cleanliness.

    Is it a reputable pool?

Yes it's a reputable pool. It's more of a blocked up feeling than an out and out cold. Perhaps I should mention it next time I am in for a swim?

Just did a quick google on sick after swimming pool and it seems swimming pools are massive germ infected baths! ;)

Just mention it to one of the staff, ask them if they've heard of anyone else with the same symptoms.

Next you'll be telling us they contain kids' urine ;)
A pool usually becomes contaminated with germs after someone has a fecal "accident" in the pool. These accidents may be in the form of watery diarrhea. Therefore they are not as easily noticed as a formed stool.

I've actually seen fully formed stools, once in my local swimming pool and once in aquaworld tralee, whatever the **** is wrong with those kids.

I try to avoid any pool which attracts a lot of kids.

Oh and sorry, went off-topic, back to original poster, yeah I get that quite a bit, it's not a cold it's just a blocked up feeling. I just drink plenty of water and have a good "blow".
