Just got an email back from Computer Services. (Man that was suprisingingly quick.)

    This is what it said:

    Hi Rory,

The SIS system is down from the 9th to the 14th of December. Regarding your examination number, once you
bring your student card to the exam the exam number will be issued to you there.

If you have any other queries please contact SIS on 716 1713

Looks like it might have been planned downtime. I'll ask them that.

it was in fairness. Advertised on teh SIS site for the last fortnight. The reason you got a quick response is prob related to the length of time it'll take them to do teh work. Sitting around doing nothin...

It's still a terrible time to do it and their website (http://ucd.ie/itucd) doesn't mention it. :(

Yes, ever noticed that the only system that NEVER goes down is the OPAC/TALIS mainframe that they have in the Library - and guess why's the reason? It's 'cos Computer Services don't run that one - hence the only time it's ever down is for database maintainance and it's usually not even as long as the advetised amount of time. Thank god Comp Services don't run it!

    Hang on hang on!

I've never heard anything about exam cards needing to be printed and I've exams this christmas. This is obviously some stupid new moneysaving thing.

Where are/were these cards? Under your SIS a/c?

    *confused*

    computing services suck anyway :P

I've just had a student ask me for grinds in a third year course, didn't realise the exam is in 10 friggin days!! Of course, I can't remember anything from third year, the notes aren't enough of a reminder and 10-day-away-study consists of learning-off-the-most-likely-exam-questions which I can't do without the papers

If you have time, email past.papers@ucd.ie and politely rant at them and then email the SU to find out what they are doing about it.

don't expect any results, hope everything is back on the 14th.

According to computer services the SIS is managed by Admin, not Computer services. So they aren't the ones in charge/to blame.

Bri, you have to print off your exam card from the SIS student web, it won't be posted out. Same for your exam timetable. However the site is down until tuesday. Hope you don't have an exam between now and then. (Of course you'd have to have printed off your exam timetable to know when your exams are...)

[edit] I emailed our education officer about this. No responce yet. [/edit]

Syth. Thanks for the reply. That's what I gathered just wanted it clarified (it's too late to ask anyone in UCD before the weekend)

Ah well, my exam is on the 20th so I'm ok I guess. :)

I've emailed them but I don't really expect much. I expect nothing actually. I have never gotten a reply out of these......."deep breath"......people.

It's OK me and my friend got some photos of some of the past papers so we are working with those until the 14thbiggrin.gif Not the best but better then nothing.

    Hey Offler,
Ring the Student Union, Im sure they can help you. They print up loads of past papers for people every year. 01-7160000 is the number for the UCD central switchboard, and then ask to be put through to the SU secretary or President or Education Officer.
Secondly, you could try and contact your Professors. They're bound to have some past papers on file on their computers, considering they're the ones who write them.
    Good luck! :)

The SU....it would involve going into UCD that takes me ages, sure at thise stage I'll muddle through with what I have. My professors probably wouldn't be bothered or wouldn't read the emails I've got some photos of papers and that should tie me over. I've really lost interest anywayfrown.gif I just want to finish college and never go near it again, as long as I pass - I've stopped caring.

    I've stopped caring.
