I'm relating my experience with dabs.com, I have not lied or embellished the truth in any way.
I have also filed a complaint against dabs with www.imrg.org.
On top of all that, I gave komplett and elara a big thumbs up.
Your sticky thread above contains plenty of unfavourable reports. Scan get a hard time in particular, maybe they deserve it.
But the point is why can people slag off Scan and not slag off Dabs?
I posted this message as a warning to others.
If you'd like to tell me what line I crossed in my post, you can reply to this or PM me.
Also, who are you - DeV?

SSSSSSSSSHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Dev is one of the bosses from boards.

    HE sees all

As far as I know, it is illegal to slag off, or tell some not to buy somewhere directly.
meaning, you are publicly not allowed to make a company lose face publicly.
That is why Dev probably removed it, otherwise Boards could get their rear ends kick, and HARD, on a legal basis

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

I've obviously over-stepped some mark here.
All I want explained is what mark?
I posted an honest message, and then to have it deleted and told to "Defame companies on your own website" raises a few questions.
If something I said about Dabs was offensive or unwarranted let me know.
The only other thing I can think of was slagging off SDS.
My feelings about this company are well founded, in my opinion.
They claim to have attepmted delivery yesterday and the "Recipient Refused Delivery" - Impossible.
If they couldn't find my address - my contact number was there, all they had to do was call.
The address I used for delivery is the same as the one we always use.
    So - What's the problem?

Scan get slagged off quite a lot, and I'm sure boards.ie have a disclaimer - "The views expressed....", etc....

it coul dhave been because of the title of the thread.
Stay away from Dabs, might not be the best startt for it

Well, all I can say is fair play and well done, it's a great site, however my question about slagging off dabs still stands.

My own experience with Dabs was good, though this was a couple of years ago: I bought the bits for a computer from them, and the hard drive was crocked; they sent me a new one in return; the Windows 2K copy was an upgrade; they sent me a new one without demur. All the other parts worked fine, arrived fast, etc.

Dev, could you possibly give a stand onthis one aswell, I would like to know this aswell, would really appreciate it, thanks

Isn't that what we constantly do on Rip-Off Ireland though? Surely the problem only exists if you state something that can be proved untrue - i.e. say Company X never delivers on time when they've only not delivered on time to you due to a series of circumstances.

Correctomundo, thanks to boards.ie I stayed away from Scan and from now on take everything I read in Custom PC with a grain of salt. If boards had featured similar reviews about dabs I would have steered clear too.
I used komplett and elara, and will use marx and shop4memory, due to reading advice on the boards site.
I run a company, albeit a small one, and I can't afford delays like I've experienced with dabs so is passing on this info all that bad?
As far as I know, dabs has a bit of a track record in this regard, if anyone would like to confirm this feel free.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

    It was just a guess.
But in a way it is true,
but Doesn't Ripoff Ireland more state experiences paople had with the different companies, and doesn't title that business XXX is Cr@p.
I don't know why the title was left there, but maybe God, errr... Dev wanted us to discuss this matter to his amusement, LOL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,890 ✭✭✭cgarvey

I agree Dabs should be avoided, unless you're damn sure you won't have a problem. The only correspondance I've had with them has been with people (or maybe not!) who display a clear inability to read, every time. I know of no other company I've ever had this experience with. I can also say, that they don't appear to like CC chargebacks either.

In my experience ( Its best to start with this, In these PC times )

    - The title of the thread is correct "Stay away - from Dabs". This thread would have been of great benefit to me 2 weeks ago before I ordered from these MORONS

( Can I say morons!!!! ....I can hear it now ...you can't call a company a moron...its illegal, it breaks Article 2 of the Retail Defame Bill )

Dev's response reminds me of a dabs response... ( Read the thread above for an explanation )

Is there a hint of Nanny Stateism ( Yes this is a word !!! ;) ) creeping into boards?

Let's see jjmax original post - he is new - give him a break.

my curiosity is piqued. I'd love to see the original post. I've seen lots of people give out about lots of companies on boards. If someone has told the truth, there's nothing to worry about. Defamation (as I understand it) occurs when you tell an untruth about someone (a company can be a legal person) publicly.

    What say you dev?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

I didn't give the full story on my initial mail, I'm shattered with this, dealing with dabs, imrg, parcelforce, sds, visa, etc......
I'll put the full story on tripod and post a link to it soon, but it's ongoing at the moment, I hope to have it sorted tomorrow but I won't be holding my breath.
The upshot of all this is I will be very slow in the future to use a UK company, unless anyone has reccommendations, I'll also be notifying Thermaltake about this, I bought Thermaltake equipment after following a link from their site to Dabs.
I realise the SDS thing might be a bit sensitive at the moment but my feeling is that they'll be no great loss, and if a company is under-performing and inefficient they deserve their fate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

    Sorry, I'm wrong there....
I've used play.com, htfr.co.uk, maplin, and never had any problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

I have always found SDS to be excellent. I will be sorry to see them go, if indeed they do fold.

My recent DABS order (let us never speak of this incident again) came through Parcelforce, which becomes GLS when it hits Ireland. How come yours was SDS? Was it a while ago?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

    personallyI use overclock.co.uk.
any time I ordered before 2 pm, and the stuff was in stock I actually got it the next day.
    Fantastic service aswell.
sent an email once about an issue I had, and they responded within the hour.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

Thanks for the tip Gilgamesh, I'll check them out.

Khannie, I called Parcelforce today, and after holding for 10mins, because the call centre agent didn't know who the carrier in Ireland was, I was told by a supervisor that the carrier was an post.
I wanted to go and pickup the parcel, but they said as SDS were on strike, I'd have to wait.
Maybe the supervisor was wrong, might be worth my while calling GLS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

Yeah, defo. GLS are a bit hit and miss, but no harm ringing them. Your package is almost certainly not with SDS. (My dabs order arrived yesterday and it was GLS that delivered).

Maybe that's where the defamation came from. (idle speculation really)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

Khannie, you're a star! (not the crap rey darcy, dave fanning show)
The parcel is in Carlow at GLS and I'm on my way to get it so Thanks a million for the info.
Apologies to SDS and members of their family, but I was told by Parcelforce.....
    Parcelforce are gob****es!
    Dabs are still crap.
Watch this space, I'll have this PC built and let you know how it goes.
Once again Khannie may your star contiue to rise!
    Thanks also to......
I could go on but I have to make tracks to Carlow.....
    GOOD LUCK!

Much respect to everyone here today, Velcrow, Khannie, Gilgamesh take a bow....
As I was pottering over the Windy Gap (Windy as in Gale, not twisty), I pondered that the worst part of all this experience has been listening to Phil Cawley on the 35min journey to Carlow.
Nothing much went through my mind on the way back, except - Damn, that Thermaltake Tsunami Case look sexy!
Now to see if it all works, but there's not much me and my trusty mallet can't handle.....
    Watch this space.....

I rang gls but they have no records of it so it may be an post, pitty they're on strike though!

    They've a website - www.glsireland.com I think

Everything's fine, the komplett stuff is hunky dory, the elara stuff is only deadly, the dabs stuff is grand....
Except the NEC DVDRW they sent me, dabs that is.
    It's DOA.
Tried everything my little head could think of, no joy, so sending it back.
I'd ask anyone who's had similar experiences with this shower to send a mail to

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

    Sorry,

The email address is for www.imrg.org.
They're the interactive media in retail group.
An organisation that dabs are a member of.
    Like a watchdog group.
    The email is isis@imrg.org.
    They want:

    your name, contact details and a telephone number;
    the merchant's name and URL;
the problem: product / service name and details; any order / enquiry number; dates, etc.

shabana@imrg.org is the person I'm dealing with there.

    ok, I jinxed myself,

today I received another mouse from dabs, I don't know why?

In order history 2 orders identical(same mice) are listed, the first one says 0.00 pounds, and it referance it says "repl so "order number""

and in the second order it is the price that I payed for the mouse, and the order number is the same as "repl so "order number"" in order one!

has it happened to anyone here before? what to do?

You could keep the 2nd mouse.
Or you can return it to them via their website they'll even collect it.

do you think they will charge me if I keep the second one? I'm not too keen on spending my own money to send it to them.

btw, why do you think this would happen? someone made a mistake putting a second order/replacement or.......?

*edit* sorry didn't notice, that you said they will collect it, well that changes things *edit*

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

    Best of luck with it.....
As for why Dabs would make such a mistake......well I'd rather not say, just read the thread, needless to say I have strong feelings about them.

If you keep it, you pay for it. If they sent it in mistake they can't make you pay for that mistake. They would have to pay or pick up.

    Same for all places.

ive had bad experiences with scan and dabs in the past whatever about scan trying to change dabs arent trying at all .

last month i wanted to order a dvd wrighter dvd's and a psu . all of which were instock
first they said my contact details were wrong on the credit card so i changed that .
then i mailed them asking to make sure everything was ok. which i got no responce to
next days i looked to see if the items were dispatched yet and it said they were yet to be boxed up .
i mailed them again to see if there was a problom and got no responce.

basicly it went on like that for about a week . i was not pleased at all the way they couldnt e-mail me back with any details to say why my order was still not gathered .

companies that i have delt with over the last year without any big probloms
    www.overclockers.co.uk
www.scan.co.uk ( tho this was through another person in the uk that has a account with them so gets a personal tuch )
    www.elara.ie ( cause there just great )

companies that i have had probloms with over the last year or so
    www.dabs.co.uk
    www.komplett.ie

i now prefear to buy from overclockers just because they always respond to me in the same day and i can get things sorted out quickly if there is a problom

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭jjmax

The dabs bit of this email is exactly what happened to me.
They contacted me with the wrong details on card thingy, I thought I put them down right but I must have f'ed up, then they never contacted me, and several mails, days later, I contacted IMRG and they sorted it.
Makes me think now that I put the right details down first time, if other people have experienced the same thing.
Have to say I haven't had a problem with Komplett, and the fact you cvan contact them by phone is a big plus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

Is there anyone out there who has ordered from dabs for the first time recently that /hasn't/ been told that they supplied incorrect credit card details?

Sounds to me like it /could/ be a ploy to buy time. Put the blame with the customer.

I'd imagine its more to do with failing wahtever automated address verification they use due to us not using the UK postcode system. Happens with play.com too.
